You can stream music from a folder of MP3s on YouTube by connecting a software encoder to YouTube Studio, building a looping audio playlist, and adding a visual source. The computer running the encoder must stay powered on and connected to the internet for the DIY stream to continue. Before you start, confirm you have the rights to stream both the recordings and the underlying compositions: owning or downloading an MP3 does not grant those rights.
Before you build the stream
Check that your channel can livestream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no livestreaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and streamers must be at least 16. If livestreaming has not been enabled on the channel before, activation may take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube Studio before planning a launch. YouTube’s livestreaming eligibility guidance explains the requirements.
Confirm rights to every track
Make a rights inventory for both the sound recording and the musical composition in every file. Use music you created and control, or obtain permissions that cover livestreaming on YouTube and the relevant territories and uses, including monetization if you intend to seek it. A purchased MP3 or a “royalty-free” label alone does not establish that you have the necessary permissions.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can interrupt or terminate a stream; for licensed music detected by Content ID, the rights holder may need to allowlist your channel. YouTube’s live Content ID guidance describes how this can affect a broadcast.

YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions put responsibility on the content provider: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” This is a contractual requirement, not a substitute for checking the licenses that apply to your music and territories.
Create the YouTube live event

Open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go Live. In Live Control Room, choose the Stream tab for an event you are starting now, or use Manage to schedule an event. YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers the flow.

Enter the event title, visibility and other details. Scheduling can provide a watch page where viewers can set a reminder.

Copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into your encoder’s streaming destination settings. Keep the key private: it works like a password for the encoder connection. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room. See YouTube’s stream-key guidance.

Set up the MP3 playlist and video feed
Run a software encoder on a computer that can access the music folder. Add the MP3 files as an audio playlist, enable looping in the encoder or playlist source, and add a visual source such as artwork you have permission to use or an original visualizer. YouTube requires a video stream as well as audio for a live broadcast; an audio-only playlist is not a complete live feed.
YouTube documents encoder connections but does not prescribe a particular MP3 playlist application or guarantee that a particular setup will loop unattended. Check the encoder’s current media-source and looping controls, and test the complete feed before relying on it. Confirm that the track changes, audio continues, and the visual does not unexpectedly disappear.

Use YouTube’s recommended encoding settings as a starting point
For RTMP/RTMPS broadcasts, YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 as supported video codecs, and AAC or MP3 for audio. Its general guidance recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says it should not exceed four seconds. For stereo audio, YouTube recommends 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. These are platform recommendations; your encoder’s output settings and the health readout in Live Control Room are what matter. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.
YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. Use the option if your encoder supports it, and match the encoder’s destination and stream key to the values shown in Live Control Room.

Check that the computer has access to the full music folder and that the playlist is set to repeat. Keep the computer powered, prevent sleep, and ensure the network connection will remain available.

Measure available upload capacity and leave headroom. YouTube recommends at least 20% more upload bandwidth than the stream bitrate; a connection interruption can break the broadcast. Its network and stream health guidance covers bandwidth and connectivity.

Start the encoder and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Check both picture and sound, then go live from the encoder or Studio as appropriate for the setup. Verify the public watch page on a phone and a desktop.

Monitor stream health and audio/video during the broadcast. A looping playlist can fail if the computer loses power, the encoder stops, the media path becomes unavailable, or the internet connection drops.

When you end a broadcast, YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That archive guidance is not a promise that a single live event can run uninterrupted for 24 hours or indefinitely. See YouTube’s encoder livestream help.
Understand the monetization limits of a 24/7 loop
Having permission to play all the music and qualifying for YouTube monetization are separate questions. YouTube’s monetization policy applies to livestreams and expects original, authentic content rather than generic, repetitive or mass-produced material. On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and clarified its coverage of repetitive or mass-produced content. A 24/7 loop is not a monetization guarantee, and adding a visualizer does not fix missing music rights. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies before building a channel around repetitive programming.
