A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11If videos play in the wrong sequence on YouTube Live, check the OBS source’s playlist entries and turn off Shuffle Playlist in the VLC Video source properties. If “wrong order” means one graphic or video is covering another, adjust the scene’s Sources list instead: that controls visual layering, not playlist playback.
First identify what “wrong order” means
- Videos play in an unexpected sequence: check the playlist inside the VLC Video source.
- A graphic or video appears in front of another: check the Sources list in the OBS scene that feeds the live output.
These are separate controls. Rearranging scene sources changes what appears on top in the preview; it does not change the sequence of files in a playlist.
Fix the sequence of videos in a playlist
- Open the correct scene and source. In OBS, select the scene used for the live output, then find and open the VLC Video source’s properties.
- Check the playlist entries. Confirm that the intended files are present and arranged in the sequence you want.
- Turn off Shuffle Playlist. With shuffle off, the files stay in the order of the list; with it on, playback is randomized. OBS documents Off as the default, but verify the setting rather than assuming it is unchanged. See the OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation.
- Apply the change and observe playback. If you are already live, confirm the result in the program output and on YouTube Live. Avoid changing unrelated scene layering controls when the issue is file sequence.
Make sure you chose a playlist-capable source
OBS distinguishes between Media Source, for an individual media file, and VLC Video, which supports multiple playlist items. If you need a playlist, confirm that the scene contains a VLC Video source rather than assuming a Media Source will manage a multi-file sequence. VLC must be installed for VLC Video to appear as an available source. OBS specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Source details are in the OBS Media Sources guide.
Fix visual stacking in the scene
If the files themselves are playing in the right sequence but a logo, lower-third, or other video is in front of the wrong element, select the scene and inspect its Sources list. Sources higher in that list appear above sources lower down in the preview. Drag a source or use the up and down buttons to change its position. This is only a visual-layer adjustment; it does not reorder the VLC playlist. See OBS’s Sources Guide.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If the order is still unexpected
- Recheck that you edited the VLC Video source in the scene currently feeding the live output.
- Verify the playlist entries and Shuffle Playlist setting in that source’s properties.
- For an apparent overlay problem, inspect the Sources list in the active scene instead of changing playlist settings.
- If the behavior persists, note your OBS version, operating system, playlist contents, and the exact steps that reproduce it. Those details help distinguish a configuration issue from a version-specific behavior.
A GitHub issue filed on October 11, 2020, described shuffle behavior across scene changes in OBS 26.0.2. It is historical context, not evidence that current OBS releases have the same bug or that it explains a particular stream: OBS Project issue #3597.
