Prince Abdul Mateen and Anisha Rosnah Isa-Kalebic were reported to have dated for a few years before their engagement was announced in October 2023. Their wedding celebrations ran from 7 to 16 January 2024, with the religious solemnization on 11 January and a public reception and procession on 14 January. Public accounts establish those milestones, but not how the couple met or when their relationship began.
What is publicly known about their relationship?
The National reported that Mateen and Anisha had been dating “for a few years” and had been seen together on several occasions. That account places them together at the January 2023 wedding of Mateen’s sister, Princess Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah. It offers a broad timeline, not a confirmed date when they began dating.
How they met has not been established in the public accounts cited here. Nor do those accounts describe the private course of their relationship before the engagement. Anisha’s name also appears in different forms: Brunei’s Information Department and government newspaper use Anisha Rosnah binti Adam, while the Associated Press uses Anisha Rosnah Isa-Kalebic. These are source-specific forms, not grounds to assume one is an error.

| 31 December 2023 | Mateen shared a photograph with his fiancée on New Year’s Eve with the caption, “Wishing you all the best for 2024,” The National reported. |
| 7–16 January 2024 | Brunei’s Information Department identifies these as the dates of the royal wedding ceremony period. The Associated Press described it as a ten-day celebration. |
| 11 January 2024 | The solemnization took place at Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, the Associated Press reported. |
| 14 January 2024 | The couple’s public reception and procession took place in Bandar Seri Begawan, reported by the Associated Press and Brunei’s government newspaper, Pelita Brunei. |
| 15–16 January 2024 | The Associated Press reported a royal banquet on 15 January and family prayers on 16 January that officially marked the end of the celebration. The couple were not expected at the prayers. |
| January 2025 | Tatler reported that Mateen marked the occasion with a “Happy 1st anniversary” post. |
How the wedding celebrations unfolded
Traditional ceremonies
Brunei’s Information Department media handbook describes a traditional ceremony in which the groom’s delegation brings articles to the fiancée’s house to formally certify the engagement. The National’s chronology describes symbolic gifts brought by the groom’s family to the bride’s residence, followed by a powdering ceremony in which family members apply powder to the couple’s hands. These sources document customs within this wedding sequence; they do not establish that every Bruneian or Malay wedding follows the same practices.
