To use your phone as a webcam with Camo, install Camo Studio on your Mac or Windows computer and Camo Camera on your iPhone or Android phone, connect the devices, then select Camo as the camera in your call or recording app. Start with USB for the most straightforward, robust connection; choose Wi-Fi when you need more freedom to position the phone.
Set up Camo on your phone and computer
- Install both Camo apps. Get Camo Studio for your Mac or Windows computer and Camo Camera for your iPhone or Android phone. See Camo’s product page for the product and setup information.
- Open Camo Studio and Camo Camera. Keep the phone app open while connecting. For your first setup, connect the phone to the computer by USB. You can pair over Wi-Fi instead if you need to move the phone away from the computer or keep its port available for another accessory.
- Select the phone in Camo Studio. Check that its live camera preview appears in Studio before moving on. A phone plugged in by USB may still show as disconnected if Camo Camera is not open.
- Choose Camo in the app you want to use. Open your video-call, recording, or streaming application and select the Camo camera as its video source. The exact menu name and location depend on that application and its version.
- Position the phone and check the frame. Set it on a stable surface or use a mount if you need a particular height or angle. A mount is optional; it can be especially useful for overhead demonstrations.
Camo Studio makes the phone’s video available to other applications. For interface guidance, see Camo’s guide to navigating its interface.
Choose USB or Wi-Fi

These are Camo’s stated trade-offs, not a guarantee of identical results on every device. Your experience can vary with your phone, computer, network, and video settings. Camo’s Wi-Fi guidance was published on October 20, 2022, and updated July 31, 2024; its platform-version statements are historical guidance rather than a complete current compatibility list. Android on Windows
Camo says Wi-Fi avoids the USB debugging requirement associated with wired Android-to-Windows connections. If you prefer USB, follow the connection prompts shown by Camo for your setup. The Camo FAQ covers its connection guidance.

iPhone on Windows
Camo says Windows Studio needs Apple’s standard mobile components to communicate with an iPhone. An iTunes installation commonly supplies them; if the required components are missing, Studio may prompt you to install them. Refer to the Camo FAQ if the phone does not connect.
Troubleshoot common Camo connection problems
- Studio says “No devices connected.” Check that Camo Camera is installed and open on the phone, then check the selected device in Camo Studio. A connected cable alone does not mean the phone app is running.
- The Studio icon shows a warning. Camo’s interface guide says a warning indicates Studio has detected a problem—for example, a device is not working as expected, or another application is trying to use video when no device is selected. Check the selected camera and confirm that the phone is connected and Camo Camera is open.
- An iPhone will not connect to Windows. Check whether the Apple mobile components Camo requires are installed. Camo says iTunes commonly provides them, and Studio may prompt you if they are missing.
- The phone gets warm. Camo says image processing happens on the phone and recommends leaving Screen Curtain enabled to reduce screen power and heat. Heavy effects and adjustments can add processing load. This is vendor guidance, not an independent thermal test.
- The phone is awkward to frame overhead. Use a stable mount if needed; Wi-Fi can make placement easier by removing the cable-length constraint. No particular mount model is required for Camo.

Release information can vary by platform: the guide displayed a latest-release label of 2.9.1 dated September 28, 2026, while the release notes separately surfaced Windows Studio 2.7.3 dated June 8, 2026 and macOS Studio 2.7.2 dated May 20, 2026. Those are distinct entries, not one universal version number. See the Camo release notes and confirm the current version available for your platform.
