If a prerecorded playlist in your YouTube Live broadcast stops at the end, fix the repeat setting in the program feeding OBS: enable Loop for a single-file Media Source, or Loop Playlist for a VLC Video source. YouTube’s playlist loop control repeats playback for viewers; it does not restart the source OBS is sending live.
First identify which playlist is stopping
There are two different situations that can sound like “the YouTube loop ended”:
- You are watching a YouTube playlist: use YouTube’s viewer-side playlist Loop control. It repeats playback for the person watching; it does not control a live encoder.
- Your channel is broadcasting prerecorded files through OBS: configure looping on the OBS source that supplies the live video. The fix is in OBS, not in the YouTube watch page.

Make a single video repeat in OBS
- In OBS, locate the Media Source that plays the local video.
- Open that source’s properties.
- Enable Loop, then apply the change.
- Confirm the source continues playing after the file reaches its end.
OBS documents Media Source’s Loop option as replaying the file when playback completes. The setting applies to the OBS source, so it is the control that matters when that source feeds the live program. See the OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation (page dated January 11, 2022).

Repeat a playlist of multiple files in OBS
- Use a VLC Video source for the files you want to play as a playlist.
- Open its properties and add or confirm the playlist files.
- Enable Loop Playlist so the source restarts after it runs out of media files.
- Leave Shuffle Playlist off if the videos need to play in a particular order.
- Test the end of the list and confirm playback returns to the first file.
OBS requires VLC to be installed for the VLC Video source. For 64-bit OBS, the OBS documentation specifies installing 64-bit VLC. If the VLC source is unavailable or cannot play media, check that dependency and the matching architecture.
Separate a stopped source from a stopped broadcast
If the YouTube event still ends, check the chain one layer at a time. A source reaching the end, OBS ceasing to send, and YouTube ending the broadcast are distinct conditions; changing a viewer’s playlist loop will not repair any of them.

- Check the source: verify that the OBS Media Source or VLC Video source is still playing and that its loop option is enabled.
- Check OBS output: verify that OBS remains connected and is still sending the stream.
- Check the YouTube broadcast: review its auto-stop setting if the encoder transmission stopped and the event subsequently ended.
A secondary troubleshooting article describes auto-stop as one possible link in that sequence, not a universal cause: iTechGuides’ OBS and YouTube playlist troubleshooting article (dated October 3, 2026). It does not establish a current official auto-stop delay, so do not assume a particular countdown.

Google’s YouTube IFrame Player API reference says, “The default behavior is that playlists do not loop.” That statement concerns playlist playback in the embedded-player API, not OBS or a YouTube Live encoder feed.
