Use BoxCast’s built-in YouTube integration for the simplest route: link your YouTube account in the BoxCast Dashboard, then select YouTube when scheduling a BoxCast broadcast. Enable YouTube Live beforehand—BoxCast says activation can take up to 24 hours—and test with an Unlisted or Private broadcast. A reusable RTMP destination is an alternative when you need to configure YouTube manually.

Before you start: enable YouTube Live

Make sure the YouTube account you plan to use is enabled for live streaming before event day. BoxCast’s instructions say activation may take 24 hours, so leave time for it to complete. If the account is not enabled, BoxCast may be unable to post the stream to YouTube. BoxCast’s YouTube integration guide describes the activation requirement.

How to connect YouTube to BoxCast and schedule a broadcast

  1. Link your YouTube account. In the BoxCast Dashboard, open Settings > Integrations, add YouTube, select the Google account to use, and grant BoxCast permission.
  2. Create a BoxCast broadcast. Schedule a broadcast, select the appropriate BoxCast source, and choose YouTube under Destinations. Pick the linked YouTube account and set the privacy option, then complete scheduling. BoxCast says the YouTube stream appears when the BoxCast broadcast goes live.
  3. Test privately. For a test, choose Unlisted or Private so you can check the event without making it public.
  4. Add the YouTube thumbnail in YouTube. A thumbnail set on the BoxCast scheduled broadcast does not carry over to social destinations. Apply the thumbnail to the YouTube event itself.

BoxCast’s support page says YouTube Live simulcasting is available on any BoxCast plan. Plan terms and dashboard behavior can change, so check your account if the current interface or plan details differ.

Built-in integration or reusable RTMP destination?

What you need to know Built-in YouTube integration Reusable RTMP destination
Setup Link YouTube in BoxCast and select it as a destination when scheduling. Copy YouTube’s stream URL and key into a BoxCast RTMP integration.
YouTube event scheduling BoxCast’s native workflow handles the destination event as part of scheduling. Schedule a YouTube event for each broadcast, even if you reuse the BoxCast RTMP destination.
Metadata Designed for YouTube simulcasting. Generic RTMP does not pass the BoxCast broadcast name or description; enter metadata in YouTube.
Best fit The default choice for a straightforward BoxCast-to-YouTube broadcast. Manual destination setup or a specific need to use RTMP.

For ordinary recurring broadcasts, the built-in integration avoids separately configuring a destination URL and key. Use RTMP when you need manual configuration or have a particular reason to use it. BoxCast’s procedural guides for the native integration and YouTube via RTMP explain the respective workflows.

How to send BoxCast to YouTube with RTMP

Use this method when the native integration is unsuitable or you specifically need a manually configured RTMP destination. Keep the YouTube event and BoxCast destination settings aligned for each broadcast.

  1. Schedule the event in YouTube Studio. Create a stream using streaming software and enter the event’s title, description, visibility, and other YouTube details.
  2. Set YouTube’s start and stop behavior. Enable Auto-Start and Auto-Stop as described in BoxCast’s YouTube RTMP instructions, then copy YouTube’s Stream URL and Stream Key.
  3. Add an RTMP destination in BoxCast. Open Settings > Integrations > Add Integration and choose an RTMP destination. Paste the YouTube Stream URL into Server URL and the Stream Key into Stream Key. Do not use authentication. Leave Max Resolution set to None (use highest), then save.
  4. Choose the destination for the broadcast. When scheduling the BoxCast broadcast, select the saved integration under RTMP Destinations.
  5. Schedule YouTube for every event. The RTMP destination and key may be reused in BoxCast, but YouTube still needs an event scheduled ahead of each broadcast.

With a generic RTMP destination, BoxCast does not pass the broadcast name and description through. Set those details on the YouTube event. BoxCast’s YouTube RTMP guide and general RTMP destination instructions cover these settings.

Do you need a BoxCaster?

No. A new BoxCaster is not required to use BoxCast’s native YouTube destination workflow. BoxCast lists Spark, the Broadcaster App, Producer, RTMP-compatible encoders, and SRT-compatible encoders as source options. BoxCaster and BoxCaster Pro remain supported, but BoxCast says their sale has been discontinued. Check BoxCast for current source availability rather than assuming those devices can be purchased new. See BoxCast’s source and encoder documentation.

Why isn’t my BoxCast stream showing on YouTube?

  • BoxCast cannot post the stream: Confirm that YouTube Live is enabled for the selected account. Account activation may take 24 hours, according to BoxCast.
  • You cannot find the event: Open the BoxCast broadcast details, select the YouTube Live tab, and use the link to inspect the video in YouTube Live Control Room.
  • The linked account or event needs refreshing: Edit the event, disable the YouTube integration, and save. Edit it again, relink the integration, and save.
  • Google account linking fails: Remove the BoxCast application from your Google account’s permissions, then retry linking it from BoxCast.
  • The RTMP destination does not connect: Check that you copied the correct YouTube Stream URL and Stream Key into the matching BoxCast fields, and verify that a YouTube event is scheduled for that broadcast.
  • The YouTube event has the wrong title or description: For generic RTMP, BoxCast broadcast metadata is not passed through; correct those details in YouTube.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep uploaded video playing as a 24/7 YouTube live stream rather than send a scheduled BoxCast production, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so no computer or home connection has to stay on.
