The Roland V-1HD is worth considering if your production needs a compact, tactile switcher for up to four HDMI sources in an HD workflow, with separate preview monitoring and built-in audio mixing. It is not a fit for 4K or SDI switching, and streaming to a computer requires an additional capture device such as Roland’s UVC-01. Whether it is good value depends on your setup and current seller pricing, which is not established here.
What the Roland V-1HD is—and who it suits
The V-1HD is a four-input HDMI video switcher designed for live production and presentations. Its clearest use case is switching among as many as four HDMI cameras, computers, phones, tablets, or playback devices in a 720p or 1080 workflow, while an operator uses physical controls and a separate output for preview or multiview.
It may suit a small event, classroom, house of worship, or documentary interview setup that needs live source switching, basic compositing, and audio mixing in one unit. That is a fit assessment based on Roland’s published specifications, not a hands-on performance verdict.
- Consider it if you need four HDMI inputs, a physical T-fader and buttons, HD output, onboard effects, and preview monitoring.
- Look elsewhere or add hardware if you need SDI inputs, 4K switching, or a direct USB connection from the switcher to a streaming computer.
Inputs, outputs, and supported formats
Roland’s product specifications list four Type A HDMI inputs, one HDMI program output, and a second HDMI output designated for preview. The second output can be configured for program output, an up-next input preview, or a four-way multiview screen, depending on the workflow and settings.

Interlaced input is converted to progressive internally. Roland lists HDCP support, but a protected source’s compatibility should be checked for the exact intended setup rather than assumed. The V-1HD supports HD formats up to 1080p; it is not a 4K switcher.
Switching, effects, and control
The hardware layout centers on illuminated source controls and a T-fader. Roland lists CUT and MIX transitions, 30 WIPE types, 11 TRANSFORMER types, picture-in-picture, split layouts, luminance and chroma keying, freeze, output fade, and memory settings. Listed image effects include negative, emboss, colorize, color pass, posterize, silhouette, monochrome, edge detection, and flip.
Roland’s support materials also describe automatic input scanning at intervals from 1 to 120 seconds and BPM-synchronized switching. These are manufacturer-documented features; the published feature list does not establish how well they suit a particular production style.

Audio facilities
Roland specifies 24-bit/48 kHz audio processing and describes the mixer as 12-channel. Inputs include audio embedded in HDMI, RCA line input, and a stereo-mini microphone input with plug-in power support. Outputs include HDMI, RCA audio, and a stereo-mini headphone output.

Listed processing includes EQ, delay, compressor, high-pass filter, gate, reverb, and mastering effects. Those specifications make the built-in mixer useful to evaluate for a compact event setup, but they do not show that it will replace every external mixer or audio-routing workflow. Check the required input types and routing before buying.
Streaming to a computer: what extra hardware is needed?
The V-1HD’s HDMI output is not itself a native USB streaming connection. Roland’s product resources identify the UVC-01 USB video capture device as an addition for streaming. In a computer-based workflow, the switcher produces the HDMI program signal, the capture device brings it into the computer, and streaming software sends it to the platform. Confirm current availability and compatibility for the UVC-01 and your computer before planning around it.

Do not confuse the V-1HD with the separately listed V-1HD+ or with models that offer native USB streaming output. If avoiding extra capture hardware is important, compare the exact model’s connection options before purchase.
Software, firmware, and physical details
Roland’s support page lists V-1HD System Program Ver. 2.07 and V-1HD RCS Ver. 2.0.1 for Windows and macOS. The page describes the Version 2.0 update as adding a one-third picture-in-picture size, automatic scan, multiview audio meters, panel lock, and a quick reset action. Software versions and operating-system compatibility can change, so check Roland’s current support page before updating or integrating it with a computer.
Roland lists the unit at 313 × 102 × 59 mm and 1.2 kg excluding the AC adaptor. Listed package accessories are the owner’s manual, AC adaptor, power cord, and cord hook. Roland notes that specifications and appearance may change.

Is the Roland V-1HD worth it?
The V-1HD is a plausible choice when the requirements are specifically four HDMI sources, HD switching, tactile operation, separate preview or multiview, and built-in audio processing. Its feature set is concentrated on that compact HD production job.
It is not the right match if your core requirement is 4K switching or SDI connectivity. For computer streaming, include the capture device and the computer in the plan; the V-1HD alone does not provide the direct USB streaming path. No current price or competing-product value is established here, so a value judgment should account for contemporary seller pricing and any additional equipment your workflow needs.

- Count sources and confirm each source can provide a compatible HDMI format.
- Confirm that 720p or 1080 output meets delivery requirements; do not plan for 4K switching.
- Decide whether the second HDMI output will serve as a preview, multiview, or program output, and make sure you have a suitable display if needed.
- Map audio sources to the HDMI, RCA line, and microphone inputs, and check whether the listed outputs meet your monitoring and routing needs.
- If streaming through a computer, budget and verify the capture-device path rather than assuming the switcher connects over USB.
- For protected HDMI sources, verify HDCP compatibility in the specific setup.
- Check Roland’s support page for current firmware, software versions, and operating-system compatibility.
- Compare the current seller price with the complete cost of the cables, monitor, capture device, and other equipment your workflow requires.
Common setup problems and checks
A source does not appear
Confirm that the source is connected to one of the HDMI inputs and is outputting a format supported by the selected V-1HD format. Check the cable and source output settings, then verify whether the source is protected and whether HDCP compatibility is relevant to the setup.

The output format is wrong for the display or destination
Check the selected output format against the required 720p, 1080i, or 1080p mode and 50 or 59.94 setting. Roland’s specifications list formats by selection, so match the switcher, sources, monitor, capture device, and streaming software to a compatible mode.
The computer cannot receive the switcher’s picture
The V-1HD’s HDMI output needs a capture path into the computer; the switcher alone is not a native USB streaming device. Check the HDMI connection to the capture device, the device’s computer compatibility, and whether the streaming software is using the correct capture input.
Audio is missing or routed unexpectedly
Check whether the intended audio is embedded in the selected HDMI source or connected through the RCA line or stereo-mini microphone input. Then check the chosen output and the mixer settings, including mute, level, and processing.
