To stream from OBS Studio to Wowza Streaming Cloud, configure OBS with the destination address and stream credentials shown for your active Wowza live-stream configuration. In OBS, choose a custom streaming destination, enter those current values, set output quality within your computer’s capacity and Wowza’s stated limits, then test the full connection before broadcasting. Wowza’s current dashboard labels and ingest requirements are not established here, so do not rely on old screenshots or copied example addresses.

Before you configure OBS

Create or open the live-stream configuration in your Wowza account and locate the destination address and the credentials it provides for an encoder. Use values for that specific, active stream. The exact current Wowza dashboard path and field labels are not verified, and terminology may differ between configurations.

  • Check which ingest protocol Wowza specifies and copy its complete destination address.
  • Copy the corresponding stream name, key, or other required credential exactly as displayed.
  • Check Wowza’s current limits and authentication requirements for the stream, including supported bitrate, resolution and frame rate.
  • Keep the stream credential private. Do not reuse an old example or another account’s values.

A historical OBS community post links to a Wowza guide for sending RTMP from OBS Studio to Wowza Streaming Cloud, but that guide’s current availability and instructions have not been verified. Treat the values in your active Wowza configuration—not historical examples—as authoritative. OBS community discussion (2019)

Configure OBS Studio

  1. Open the streaming settings. In OBS, go to Settings > Stream. OBS’s SRT setup guide documents the general custom-destination interface at this path; it does not verify Wowza’s RTMP-specific settings. OBS SRT Protocol Streaming Guide
  2. Select a custom destination. Set Service to Custom, or the equivalent custom option shown in your OBS version.
  3. Enter the Wowza destination. Put the destination address from your active Wowza configuration in OBS’s server field. Enter the matching stream name or key in the stream-key field, if OBS presents one. Follow Wowza’s instructions if it requires a different credential arrangement; do not guess at field mappings.
  4. Choose output settings. Set resolution, frame rate and bitrate to values supported by Wowza and achievable by your upload connection and encoder. OBS notes that bitrate depends on upload speed and the service’s limits, while system performance varies with encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. OBS Studio Overview Guide OBS System Requirements
  5. Apply the settings and test. Start the stream in OBS and confirm that the active Wowza configuration receives it. Begin with a private or otherwise controlled test when available, and verify audio, video and stability before a public broadcast. OBS recommends testing before a first live stream.

Passing OBS’s minimum system requirements does not ensure that a computer can stream at a particular resolution or frame rate. As OBS puts it: “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS.” OBS System Requirements

Which settings should you verify?

There is no verified universal Wowza ingest address or set of values to copy into OBS. Confirm these details against the current configuration for your stream:

  • Protocol and destination: Use the protocol, host and port Wowza specifies. Do not assume a historical RTMP example is current or that a server accepts RTMPS simply because OBS offers it.
  • Credentials: Check the stream name or key and any separate authentication requirement. Preserve capitalization and punctuation.
  • Input limits: Confirm supported bitrate, resolution and frame rate in the current Wowza instructions for that stream.
  • Test or preview: If Wowza provides a private test or preview, use it to check the complete path before going public. Availability depends on the active configuration.
  • Computer and network capacity: Choose output settings your encoder and upload connection can sustain. OBS performance requirements vary with the encoder, resolution, FPS and scene complexity.

Troubleshoot connection and quality problems

OBS reports that it failed to connect

  • Confirm the Wowza stream configuration is active and ready to receive an encoder. A 2019 community exchange mentions activation as a possible check, but that anecdote is not a guaranteed diagnosis. OBS community discussion (2019)
  • Re-copy the destination and credential from the correct active configuration. Check for missing characters, spaces or a key from a different stream.
  • Verify the protocol, host, port and authentication requirements shown by Wowza. Also check whether local firewall or network policy blocks the protocol and port in use; current Wowza-specific port requirements are not established here.
  • If using RTMPS, check the server’s TLS configuration and client compatibility with Wowza support or current documentation. A 2025 forum thread describes one user’s RTMPS connection failure attributed in a reply to that server’s TLS/key-exchange configuration; it does not establish a general OBS–Wowza incompatibility. OBS community discussion (2025)

The stream connects but drops frames or performs poorly

  • Reduce bitrate to a level your upload connection can sustain and that the service allows.
  • Reduce output resolution or frame rate if the encoder or computer cannot keep up.
  • Test again after each change so you can identify which setting resolves the issue. OBS notes that performance depends on the encoder, resolution, FPS and scene complexity.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is a continuous YouTube channel stream of uploaded videos, rather than a live camera or OBS production sent to Wowza, StreamNeo is a different workflow: it plays uploaded videos to YouTube and is not a Wowza ingest destination. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running, so no computer or home connection has to stay on. It supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and includes a first day free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Learn about StreamNeo or start the free day.
