For an uploaded video, edit the intro into the finished video. For a live show, use an opening scene or welcome. For a trailer before a scheduled livestream, use YouTube’s separate trailer feature if your channel qualifies.
Choose the kind of intro you need
“Intro” can mean an opening edited into an ordinary video, the opening segment of a live broadcast, or a trailer shown on a scheduled livestream’s watch page before the event. These are different workflows; a trailer does not automatically become an opening in the live broadcast or in its archive.
| Approach | Where viewers see it | Useful for | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Edited video intro | At the start of the finished upload | A tailored spoken or visual opening, or consistent channel branding | Add it in your editing workflow. No universal ideal duration is established. |
| OBS opening scene | During the live broadcast | A welcome, waiting slate, rendered intro clip, or scene-based show opening | Set up and test the encoder, sources, audio, and transition. |
| YouTube scheduled-stream trailer | On the scheduled stream’s watch page before it begins | Introducing an upcoming event to people who visit its watch page | Eligibility, duration, and rights requirements apply; see YouTube’s current trailer instructions. |
Write an opening that gets to the subject
Start with a compact promise rather than a long explanation of the channel. Include only what helps a new viewer understand the show and decide to keep watching:
- Identity: Name the channel or show if it helps orient someone who has not seen it before.
- Value: Say what this particular video or livestream will answer, demonstrate, or cover.
- Transition: Begin the first useful step, scene, or conversation.
A simple writing template is: “Welcome to [channel/show]. Today we’re [specific outcome]. I’ll show [first step], then we’ll [what comes next]. Let’s start.” For a livestream with several parts, state their order so viewers know how the event is structured. Google’s Live Streaming Guide recommends opening remarks that establish a stream’s purpose and structure.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Use graphics only when they help
A logo animation, sound sting, montage, or title card is optional. Use one if it helps viewers recognize or understand the show, but do not let it delay the promised subject. The available official guidance does not establish an ideal intro length or show that animation improves retention, so treat duration as an editorial choice rather than a proven performance rule.
Make an intro for an uploaded YouTube video
- Choose the opening material. Record a short voice line, select a relevant shot, design a title card, or create a simple logo treatment. Include only what supports the video’s promise.
- Place it at the start of your edit. Add the opening before the main content in your usual video-editing workflow, then make the transition into the first section clear.
- Check sound and picture. Listen for intelligible narration and a clean audio transition. Preview the opening on a small screen and at the size you expect viewers to use.
- Check rights. Use music, video, and graphics only when you have the necessary rights. YouTube specifically requires rights to the audio and video used in scheduled-stream trailers; the same practical care avoids putting material you are not authorized to use in an upload.
YouTube’s scheduled-stream trailer feature accepts an uploaded video as its trailer asset, but it is not a general channel-wide intro setting. Its eligibility and duration requirements are separate.

Build a live opening in OBS
An OBS intro is a scene or sequence within the broadcast, not a separate YouTube trailer. Keep the opening and main program in separate scenes so you can switch cleanly when it is time to begin. OBS supports sources such as video, images, text, and webcams; see its Quick Start Guide for setup guidance and its stream layout tutorial for scene ideas.
- Create an opening scene. In OBS, add a scene for your welcome. Add a video source for a rendered intro clip, or combine image, text, webcam, and other sources for a live slate.
- Create or select the main-program scene. Keep the content scene distinct so you can move from the opening to the show without rebuilding the layout during the broadcast.
- Check audio devices and meters. Confirm that the intended microphone and other audio sources are selected, then speak and watch the audio meters to confirm they respond.
- Plan the spoken welcome. Greet viewers, state the event’s purpose, explain the order if there are several parts, and then start the activity you promised.
- Test the whole setup. OBS encourages a short test recording or stream before a first broadcast. Google’s checklist also recommends testing the connection, camera framing, audio capture, and lighting in advance; a private stream can help you check the setup before a public event.
- Switch scenes when ready. Start with the opening scene, deliver the welcome, then switch to the main-program scene and begin the content.
Add a trailer before a scheduled YouTube livestream
YouTube’s trailer feature plays a video on the scheduled stream’s watch page before the event starts. It is distinct from an OBS opening scene and from an intro edited into the live archive. YouTube’s Help page currently says the feature is available to creators with more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. The trailer must be 15 seconds to 3 minutes long. YouTube recommends matching the scheduled event’s aspect ratio and resolution, and requires rights to the trailer’s audio and video. These platform details can change, so check the current Help page before relying on them.

- Upload the trailer as a regular YouTube video.
- In YouTube Studio, schedule the livestream from the Live Control Room’s Manage tab.
- Edit the scheduled stream, open Customize, and add the trailer.
- Save, then check the scheduled stream’s watch page to confirm the setup.
The trailer promotes and orients viewers before the scheduled event; it does not replace the welcome you deliver once the broadcast begins.
Check livestream eligibility and format before planning
YouTube’s live-streaming requirements currently say that a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. YouTube also states a minimum age of 16 for livestreaming. Its available routes include mobile, webcam, encoder, and console. An encoder is useful when you need scenes or overlays, or want to use equipment such as cameras, microphones, and preamps.

- The opening feels like an ad before the subject. Cut material that does not identify the show, explain the specific value, or lead into the content. Keep branding optional and subordinate to the promise.
- Viewers cannot hear the welcome clearly. Check the selected audio device and OBS meters, then make a test recording or stream and listen back before going live.
- The intro clip plays but the show does not transition cleanly. Put the intro and main program in separate OBS scenes, rehearse the scene switch, and verify it in a test.
- The scheduled trailer option is unavailable. Check whether the channel meets YouTube’s stated eligibility conditions, and confirm that you are editing a scheduled stream in the Live Control Room.
- The trailer is rejected or does not meet the feature requirements. Confirm that it is 15 seconds to 3 minutes, check aspect ratio and resolution against the scheduled event, and ensure you have rights to its audio and video.
- The trailer appears in the wrong place or is mistaken for the live intro. The trailer belongs on the scheduled event’s watch page before it starts. Use an OBS scene or spoken welcome for the live opening itself.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your livestream is an uploaded video or playlist that should loop on YouTube, StreamNeo keeps it running from the cloud. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube only.
