What Dual Output does
Dual Output sends horizontal and vertical formats simultaneously from Streamlabs Desktop, with separate scenes and source layouts for each. For example, you can prepare a vertical layout for TikTok and a horizontal one for YouTube or Twitch. The feature is for producing the two orientations; each platform still applies its own eligibility rules for going live.
Streamlabs documents its multistream routing as cloud-based. That description refers to Streamlabs’ routing service and should not be taken as a general bandwidth rule for other streaming setups.
Before you start
- Install and open Streamlabs Desktop, then sign in or connect the accounts you plan to stream to.
- Confirm that each platform account is allowed to livestream. For YouTube, Streamlabs says the account must be verified; if verification is pending, it can take 24 hours.
- Decide which destination should receive each format, and whether you need one destination per orientation or more.
- Prepare distinct horizontal and vertical scene compositions. A layout that works in one aspect ratio may crop or crowd important content in the other.
Enable Dual Output and configure both layouts
- Connect your destination accounts. Sign in to Streamlabs Desktop and link the services you plan to use. For YouTube, Streamlabs’ setup guide begins by connecting the YouTube account.
- Turn on Dual Output. Open Settings > Video and toggle on Enable Dual Output. Streamlabs also documents a newer toggle above the Sources panel; the control’s location may differ by app version.
- Review the horizontal canvas. Check the horizontal preview and position its sources for that composition. Make sure text, faces, and other essential content remain visible.
- Review the vertical canvas separately. Switch to the vertical preview, then adjust source placement and visibility for the narrower layout. Streamlabs says you can customize scenes and sources independently and show or hide sources on a specific canvas.
- Open the Go Live flow. Click Go Live and select the destination or destinations you intend to use.
- Assign the orientations. Choose Both when sending both formats to a destination that offers that choice. If you are using different platforms, assign each its intended orientation in the output flow.
- Check the selections before starting. Verify the selected services and orientation assignments, then start the stream. Confirm each destination is receiving the intended composition.
Which destinations are included free?
Streamlabs’ feature guidance describes the free Dual Output allowance as one horizontal destination and one vertical destination. It says three or more destinations in total, or multiple destinations sharing the same orientation, require Streamlabs Ultra. Live Output Editing—the ability to add or remove destinations while already live—is also described as an Ultra feature. Plan terms can change, so check Streamlabs’ current plan details before subscribing.

For example, one vertical TikTok output and one horizontal YouTube output fit the stated free allowance. Adding another vertical destination would cross the stated limit.
Platform eligibility is separate from the setup
Enabling Dual Output does not grant livestream access to an account. Streamlabs notes that YouTube requires account verification and that a pending verification period may take 24 hours. TikTok and other platforms can also apply their own requirements. Check eligibility on each destination account before troubleshooting Streamlabs settings.

Troubleshooting
The Dual Output switch is missing
Look in Settings > Video for Enable Dual Output. Streamlabs also describes a toggle above the Sources panel in a newer editor layout, so check both locations if the app’s interface differs from the guide.
The vertical or horizontal layout looks wrong
Inspect each canvas independently. Reposition sources for the affected orientation and check source visibility on that canvas; a source can be shown on one layout and hidden on the other.

A destination cannot go live
Check that the destination account is connected and meets that platform’s livestream eligibility requirements. For YouTube, confirm verification is complete; Streamlabs notes that pending verification may take 24 hours.
You cannot select another destination
Compare the number and orientation of your destinations with the free allowance. Streamlabs says three or more total destinations or multiple destinations in one orientation require Ultra.

You need to change destinations after going live
Streamlabs identifies Live Output Editing as an Ultra feature. If you do not have it, set and verify destinations before starting the broadcast.
