Customize each Streamlabs Alert Box event separately, then use general settings or Global Editing for changes that should apply more widely. Twitch and YouTube offer different alert events and variation conditions, so choose the platform and event first, preview the result, and test it in the scene where it will run.
1. Add an Alert Box to your stream
In Streamlabs Desktop, add an Alert Box from Sources. If you use different streaming software, the route depends on your setup: you may connect through a Streamlabs integration or add the Alert Box as a browser source. 2. Choose a platform and alert event
In the Streamlabs dashboard, select the relevant platform and event before editing. Available categories depend on the platforms connected or selected. For YouTube, Streamlabs’ guide covers events such as subscribers, members, and Super Chats. Twitch has its own event types; merged-platform setups can include alerts from more than one connected service. 3. Customize the selected event’s message and appearance
Open the event’s settings and adjust the options available for that event. Streamlabs’ guides describe controls that can include alert text and layout, an image or GIF, sound, font, animation, display duration, and text-to-speech for supported event types. The available controls can vary by platform and event.

- Select the event you want to change.
- Edit its message and visual or audio choices, using the preview while you work.
- Adjust timing or animation options if offered for that event.
- Save the changes, then preview the alert again.

4. Decide whether a setting applies to one alert or many
Use an event’s individual settings when only that alert should change. Use general settings for broader behavior, such as alert delay or moderation controls. Global Editing applies selected shared settings across alerts and variations; individual settings can still be adjusted where needed. - One event: edit that event’s own message and presentation options.
- General behavior: review general settings such as delay, approval moderation, profanity filtering, and custom blocked words, where available.
- Shared presentation: use Global Editing for common choices such as font, TTS, animation, layout, or duration across alerts and variations.
5. Use variations for condition-based alerts
A variation changes an alert when an event meets a configured condition. The conditions are specific to the platform and event; choose only from the conditions the dashboard offers for the selected alert. Streamlabs documents Twitch subscription and Bits conditions, raid size, YouTube membership conditions, and Super Chat amounts. These are examples of supported categories, not a promise that every condition appears in every account or event. Streamlabs: Alert Variations
- Open the relevant event and add a variation.
- Choose a condition offered for that platform and event.
- Customize the variation’s message and presentation.
- Preview it and save the configuration.
If you cannot find a condition described for another event or platform, check that you selected the correct event; variation options are not identical across Twitch and YouTube.

6. Configure and moderate text-to-speech
For tips and Bits, Streamlabs documents controls to choose a minimum amount and voice, set a spam filter, and use profanity controls or custom blocked words. Its TTS guide says TTS is off by default. Confirm the controls for your particular event, and test representative alerts before relying on them during a live stream. Streamlabs: Text-to-Speech
7. Test in the scene and software you will use
Use the dashboard’s preview or test controls while editing. In Streamlabs Desktop, you can use Test Widgets. If you run the Alert Box as a browser source in other streaming software, Streamlabs directs users to test from its dashboard. When alert settings look different than expected
Check the active theme
Streamlabs offers pre-made widget themes as a starting point. Switching themes changes alert and widget settings, so check which theme is active if an alert’s configuration appears unexpected. Streamlabs: Widget Themes
Check the selected platform and event
Alert categories and variation conditions depend on the selected platform and event. Reopen the event selector and verify that you are editing the intended Twitch or YouTube alert before changing settings.

Check the test route
Use Streamlabs Desktop’s Test Widgets in Desktop, or the dashboard test for a browser-source setup in other software. A preview in one place does not replace checking the alert in the scene where you plan to use it.
