Organize media in Streamlabs Video Editor by creating folders inside a project, moving or uploading files into them, and using the project’s sort and search tools to retrieve assets. If your files are already arranged on your computer, upload the containing folder to preserve its structure; use an upload link when collaborators need to contribute files.

Choose a starting point: organize before or after upload

Approach Best when What happens
Upload a pre-organized local folder Your files already have a useful folder hierarchy. Streamlabs says uploaded folders keep their folder structure automatically. [Streamlabs’ upload guide]
Upload individual items, then arrange them in the project You are collecting files from different places or want to sort them after upload. Upload the items, then drag them into project folders or subfolders. [Streamlabs’ media-management guide]

For documentaries, a practical starting taxonomy might be folders such as “Footage,” “Interviews,” “Audio,” “Stills,” and “Graphics.” That is a suggested workflow, not a Streamlabs-prescribed structure; choose names that match your project and collaborators’ habits.

Create folders and move project media

  1. In the project space, right-click and select New Folder.
  2. Choose whether downloads are allowed or the folder should remain private, enter a name, then select Create. Streamlabs supports folders and subfolders. [Media Management in Video Editor]
  3. Drag a file onto a folder to place it at that folder level. To select multiple files, the guide says to hold Shift and Command/Control while clicking.
  4. To copy a folder or multiple files elsewhere in your account, open the folder’s three-dot menu and choose Copy To.

Keep the hierarchy shallow enough that people can browse it quickly. For example, group footage by subject or shoot day only if those distinctions help the team locate files.

Upload files while preserving an existing structure

  1. Drag media from a local folder into the project; alternatively, use the plus sign beside Media or right-click and select Add Media.
  2. To retain a local folder hierarchy, upload the folder rather than selecting scattered files. Streamlabs says the folder structure is preserved automatically.
  3. Allow processing to continue in the background. The upload can be paused or canceled if needed. [Streamlabs’ upload guide]
  4. Once the media appears in the project, check that the hierarchy is useful and move individual assets into project folders if you need to refine it.

Browse, sort, and search for assets

Use the view that suits the task

Switch between list and tile views with the view control. Tiles can help when scanning visual assets; a list can be preferable when comparing names or dates. These are practical uses of the views, rather than a stated Streamlabs recommendation.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Sort the project contents

Streamlabs documents sorting media by date, name, file, or folder. Choose the sort that answers the immediate question—for example, name when you know a filename or folder when reviewing the project hierarchy. The media-management page was last updated September 5, 2025. [Media Management in Video Editor]

Search with Jump To

When browsing is slow, use the Jump To bar at the top left of the project view to search for a project or file in your account. It is useful for locating a known asset; it does not replace a folder structure for people who need to browse and understand a project’s contents. [Media Management in Video Editor]

Collect contributions with upload links

Upload links are for collecting media from other people, not for sorting it. Create one from the project’s Upload Links tab and share it with contributors. The upload guide says links can have an expiration date and passphrase; existing links can be activated, deactivated, or deleted. After files arrive, place them into the project’s folders so the shared workspace remains findable. [Streamlabs’ upload guide] [Streamlabs’ collaboration guide]

Keep a repeatable project structure

  • Decide which folders are durable project categories before a large upload, rather than letting every contributor invent a new top-level folder.
  • Agree on simple filename conventions with collaborators if names need to communicate subject, date, or version. Streamlabs does not prescribe a naming convention.
  • Use folder uploads when a useful hierarchy already exists locally; use project folders when you need to organize a mixed collection after upload.
  • Use sorting to scan a collection and Jump To when you know what you are trying to find.

Or let it run in the cloud

Organizing media in Streamlabs Video Editor is separate from keeping a YouTube channel live around the clock. StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos on YouTube: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card.
