Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo record your screen and webcam together, use a recorder with a combined screen-and-camera mode, such as Loom or Clipchamp, or add both a screen-capture source and a webcam source to one OBS scene. Choose the screen, camera and microphone, grant the requested permissions, and make a short test recording before starting the real one.
Choose a workflow
| Best fit | Option | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Quick setup and link sharing | Loom | Its Screen and Camera mode lets you select a screen or capture area, record, then edit and share. Its features and plan limits may change; current pricing is not established here. Loom screen recorder |
| Control over a composed recording scene | OBS | Add screen or window capture and webcam sources to a scene. You can position and size the sources, but need to configure the scene and audio devices. OBS Quick Start Guide |
| Screen-and-camera recording within an editor | Clipchamp | Use its screen-and-camera recorder, grant camera and microphone access, and select connected devices where needed. Clipchamp screen and camera instructions |
| Mac screen recording without a webcam overlay | macOS Screenshot or QuickTime | Apple documents recording all or part of the display with optional microphone audio, but not adding a live webcam overlay in this built-in workflow. Apple’s Mac screen-recording instructions |
For an on-screen presenter, the recording needs both a screen source and a camera source. A combined mode supplies both; in OBS, you add them separately. Choose based on how much layout control you need, whether you want editing or sharing built into the workflow, and which operating system you use. There is no evidence here to rank these tools by recording quality or performance.
Record screen and webcam together with Loom
- Open Loom and choose Screen and Camera.
- Select the display or capture area you want recorded, then choose the camera and microphone.
- Grant Loom any requested screen, camera and microphone permissions.
- Start recording. When finished, stop the recording and use Loom’s editing and sharing options if needed.
Loom’s guidance says it cannot record two monitors at once or switch monitors during a recording. If you use multiple displays, select the intended one before you start. Loom capture modes and monitor limits
Record with Clipchamp
- Open Clipchamp’s screen-and-camera recorder.
- Allow camera and microphone access when prompted.
- Check the selected camera and microphone. Clipchamp selects defaults automatically, but provides device menus if multiple cameras or microphones are connected.
- Start the recording and confirm the screen and camera are both included.
Browser-based recording may also require allowing camera and microphone access for the site in your browser settings. Clipchamp’s setup instructions

Set up both sources in OBS
- Open OBS and create or select a scene for the recording.
- In the Sources panel, add a display-capture or window-capture source for the content you want to show.
- Add a video-capture-device source for your webcam. Select the intended camera if more than one is available.
- Arrange the sources in the preview: resize and position the webcam image so it does not cover essential screen content.
- Speak and check the Audio Mixer meters. If the wrong microphone is active or no meter responds, open Settings → Audio and select the intended input device.
- Make a short recording and play it back to verify the picture and narration before recording the full walkthrough.
OBS’s official Quick Start Guide describes adding display or window capture and webcam sources, and checking audio inputs in Settings → Audio. Read the OBS Quick Start Guide
Grant screen, camera and microphone access
On macOS
For screen capture, review System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording and allow access for the recording app. Apple’s built-in capture also supports microphone audio, but its screen-recording instructions do not describe a webcam overlay in that workflow. Some apps, including Apple TV, may prevent recording their windows. Apple: record the screen on your Mac · Apple: control screen and system-audio recording access
