Use YouTube’s free, built-in Go Live Together feature. The host starts or schedules a guest stream, shares an invitation link, and admits the guest from the waiting room. You do not need a separate service to invite someone.
Before you invite a guest
- The host needs a YouTube channel that is eligible to livestream: YouTube says it must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days.
- YouTube’s current help page says creators must be at least 16 to livestream. Check your channel’s eligibility before planning the broadcast.
- The documented Go Live Together workflow for starting and admitting a guest uses a mobile phone. You can schedule a guest stream from a computer in Live Control Room, but go live from a mobile phone.
See YouTube’s guidance on getting started with live streaming.
How the host invites and admits a guest
- On your mobile device, tap Create, then Live.
- Open Edit and choose the video and broadcast settings.
- Turn on Go live together, enter the stream details, and tap Next.
- Under Invite a co-streamer, copy the invitation link or choose a messaging option to send it to your guest.
- When ready to broadcast, tap Go live. Your guest opens the link on a mobile device and enters the waiting room.
- When the guest appears in the waiting room, select Add, then confirm Go live to bring them into the stream.
The guest can check their audio and video while waiting and will see an indication when they are live. For YouTube’s complete instructions, see Invite a guest to your live stream with Go live together.
How to join a YouTube livestream as a guest
- Open the invitation link the host sent you on a mobile device.
- Wait in the waiting room while the host prepares the broadcast and admits you.
- Check your audio and video while you wait. You will see an indication when you are live.
If the invitation link will not open correctly from a messaging app, ask the host to send it by email or text instead.

What to expect when co-streaming
- A host can invite anyone who has a YouTube channel.
- Only one guest appears on screen at a time. The host can rotate guests during the stream.
- The host’s video appears alongside the guest’s feed; the default orientation is vertical.
- The host can view stream analytics in YouTube Studio; the guest cannot.
- The host is responsible for the stream and must ensure guests follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines, copyright policy, and other applicable policies. The host has moderation tools and can remove a guest.
Fix invitation-link problems
The link does not open from a messaging app
Ask the host to resend the link by email or text, as YouTube recommends.
A previously shared link should no longer work
The host can reset the link in the co-streamer invitation controls, then send the new link to the guest.

You are trying to invite a guest from desktop webcam controls
YouTube’s webcam workflow in Live Control Room is for selecting a webcam and microphone; it does not document those desktop webcam controls as a way to invite a Go Live Together guest. Use the mobile Go Live Together steps to start and admit a guest. See YouTube’s webcam livestream instructions for the separate webcam workflow.
Optional audio improvement
A smartphone-compatible lavalier microphone may be useful if a guest wants to improve their audio, but it is not required to send or accept an invitation. Check that any microphone is compatible with the guest’s phone and that they can monitor the audio setup. YouTube’s instructions ask guests to check audio and video, but do not recommend a particular microphone.
