To receive YouTube’s automatic subscriber alerts when you go live, viewers need All notifications enabled for your channel and YouTube notifications enabled on their account and device. For encoder streams, YouTube also has to detect the public stream as live.
Schedule a live stream so viewers can set a reminder
Scheduling makes an upcoming event discoverable before it starts. YouTube says a scheduled stream may appear in subscribers’ feeds as upcoming; viewers can then choose Notify me on the watch page to receive a reminder when the event is about to begin.
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and select Create → Go live.
- Open Manage and choose Schedule stream, or create a stream and set it for a later time. YouTube’s labels may change, so check the current Live Control Room if the wording differs.
- Enter the stream details, audience, date, and time, then save.
- Share the upcoming stream with viewers and tell them to open it and select Notify me.
A reminder is a viewer-controlled request, not a guarantee that every person will see a device alert. Viewers’ account and device notification settings still matter.
How subscribers get notified when you go live
Subscribers are eligible for live notifications when they have selected All notifications for your channel and enabled YouTube notifications for their account and device. A channel subscription alone does not ensure an alert reaches someone’s screen.

If you stream with an encoder, YouTube sends notifications only after the stream is public and YouTube detects the incoming feed as live. As YouTube Help puts it: “If you’re using an encoder, notifications are sent to these subscribers after your live stream is made public and we detect that you’re Live.” A public watch page by itself is not enough if YouTube has not detected the encoder feed.
Start an encoder stream and confirm YouTube detects it
- In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live and create or schedule the stream in Live Control Room.
- Copy YouTube’s server URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Keep the stream key private.
- Start sending the feed from the encoder and wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room.
- When YouTube shows the incoming feed and you are ready to begin, select Go live.
For subscriber notifications, check that the stream is public and Live Control Room has detected you as live. YouTube supports mobile, webcam, encoder, and console streaming; special hardware is not required just to schedule an event or configure reminders.

Why didn’t I get a notification?
- The viewer has not enabled channel alerts: Open the channel’s notification options and select All notifications.
- YouTube notifications are disabled: Check notification settings for the viewer’s YouTube account and device. Device or operating-system settings can also suppress alerts.
- The encoder feed was not detected: Confirm the encoder is sending, the stream is public, and Live Control Room indicates that YouTube detects the stream as live.
- The event was not easy to find beforehand: Schedule it in advance, share the upcoming watch page, and invite viewers to select Notify me.
Creators cannot guarantee delivery to every subscriber. The channel setting, viewer’s account and device settings, and—when using an encoder—YouTube’s live detection all affect whether an alert is sent or seen.
