You can multistream for free by sending one OBS broadcast to Restream, which relays it to YouTube and one other supported destination. Restream’s free plan allows two channels to be active at once, but includes Restream branding and excludes some destination types. Check the current plan limits and the second platform’s rules before you set up.
What you need to multistream for free
- OBS Studio: captures and encodes your live program.
- A Restream account: receives the OBS feed and forwards it to selected destinations.
- Eligible accounts on both platforms: connect YouTube and a second destination that is allowed on Restream’s free plan.
- A stable upload connection: OBS sends one feed to Restream. Restream says its relay does not require additional bandwidth per added destination; that is a provider claim, not an independent measurement. Restream’s OBS guide
According to Restream’s Help Center, the free plan supports two active channels. You can add more channels to the account, but only two can be enabled at once. Restream says free streams include its branding, such as a watermark and/or a link in the stream description. Facebook Pages, Groups, and custom RTMP destinations require a paid plan, so verify that your intended second platform is eligible before relying on the free setup. Set up OBS, Restream, and YouTube
- Enable YouTube live streaming. Confirm that your channel is eligible and that live streaming is enabled before scheduling your first broadcast. Restream’s guide says YouTube requires phone-number verification and a 24-hour wait before a first stream, and that the connecting user must own the YouTube channel. Account requirements can change, so check the current eligibility and live-streaming notices in YouTube Studio. Restream’s OBS guide
- Connect your destinations in Restream. Sign in or create an account, add YouTube using the platform authorization flow, then add one other supported destination. Check the free-plan restrictions for that destination and leave no more than two channels enabled for the broadcast. Restream plans · Restream’s OBS guide
- Connect OBS to Restream. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose Restream if it appears in the service list, and authorize your account. If connecting by stream key, select the custom service option and copy the key from Restream into OBS. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to broadcast to your account. Restream documents both account authorization and stream-key setup. Restream’s OBS guide
- Choose the receiving channels. In Restream, make sure YouTube and your second destination are enabled. The OBS connection sends the program feed; the selected Restream channels determine where it is relayed. Restream’s OBS guide
- Set OBS output to suit the destinations. Restream’s YouTube guide lists H.264 video, CBR rate control, a two-second keyframe interval (four seconds maximum), and a video bitrate range of 3,000–40,000 Kbps depending on resolution and frame rate. It lists resolutions from 240p to 2160p and frame rates up to 60 FPS. For audio it lists AAC or MP3 at 128 Kbps stereo. These are Restream-presented recommendations for YouTube, not universal settings for every destination or every connection; check the current platform guidance and choose settings your upload connection can sustain. Restream’s OBS guide
- Test before going public. Where available, use a private or unlisted stream to check picture, sound, and the receiving status on both platforms. Then start the broadcast from OBS and confirm that both destinations show the live feed. A test can catch a wrong key, disabled destination, muted audio source, or incompatible output setting before viewers arrive.
Choose settings and destinations carefully
Keep the output within both platforms’ limits
A setting that works for YouTube may not meet the second platform’s requirements. Match resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and keyframe interval to current guidance for both destinations. If their requirements differ, use an output acceptable to both rather than assuming the relay will adapt the stream.
Check simulcasting rules
Destination services set their own eligibility and simultaneous-broadcast rules. YouTube advises creators to consult the relevant platform documentation when in doubt. Confirm that your account and content are permitted on both services before going live. YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder

Understand the branding and channel limit
The free Restream plan is suited to a two-destination broadcast if you accept Restream branding. It is not a free route to every destination: Facebook Pages, Groups, and custom RTMP are among the types Restream says require a paid plan. If you need more than two active channels, compare the current plan terms rather than assuming added channels can all go live together. Restream free plan details
Common problems and fixes
- YouTube does not appear as live: confirm live streaming is enabled, the channel is eligible, and the broadcast has actually started in OBS. Check YouTube Studio for account-specific prompts.
- OBS connects but no destination receives video: open Restream and verify that both channels are connected and enabled for this broadcast. Reauthorize a destination if its account connection has expired.
- OBS reports a connection error: check that OBS is pointed to Restream and that the correct current stream key was pasted without extra spaces. If using authorization, disconnect and reconnect the account.
- Video stutters or drops frames: reduce bitrate, resolution, or frame rate to a level your upload connection can sustain, then test again. A relay does not remove the need to deliver a stable feed from OBS to Restream.
- One platform rejects or fails to show the stream: review that platform’s current simulcasting, account-eligibility, and encoder requirements. A destination can have rules or technical limits that differ from YouTube.
- Branding appears on the broadcast: this is part of Restream’s free-plan terms. If it is unacceptable for your channel, review available plan options before going live.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a continuous YouTube channel playing uploaded videos, rather than a live camera or OBS program sent to multiple platforms, StreamNeo is a separate option. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. StreamNeo is YouTube-only and does not broadcast a camera feed.
