How to Stream Multiple Events at the Same Time on YouTube

YouTube can run multiple event videos at once: share one incoming stream for identical content or use separate streams for distinct productions. Check the channel and stream-key limits before going live.

Yes—YouTube can show multiple live event videos at once. If they should all carry the same feed, create a separate broadcast for each event and bind them to one incoming stream. If they need different feeds or streaming settings, create separate streams and configure your encoder to send each one. Before scheduling, check YouTube’s concurrency limits: its Help page currently allows 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key at the same time.

First decide whether the events need the same feed

On YouTube, a broadcast is a distinct event video, while a stream is the incoming feed sent from your encoder. Each broadcast is associated with one incoming stream, but a stream can be bound to multiple broadcasts—including broadcasts that are live simultaneously. That distinction determines the setup:

  • Same content in separate event videos: Create a broadcast for each event and bind them to the same stream. Viewers on each event video see the same incoming content.
  • Different simultaneous productions: Create a separate stream for each broadcast when the shows need different feeds or cannot use the same streaming settings.
  • Events at different times: A stream can be reused with broadcasts scheduled at different times. This is different from running separate simultaneous productions.

Google’s Live Streaming API documentation describes the shared-feed pattern, including a 24/7 feed with a separate interview broadcast: the interview event can be completed while the ongoing feed continues. This is a way to provide separate YouTube event videos, not to create different content from one incoming feed.

Compare the two simultaneous-event setups

Setup Incoming streams What viewers see When it fits
Separate broadcasts, shared stream One stream bound to multiple broadcasts The same incoming content on each event video One program needs separate event pages or broadcasts
Separate broadcasts, separate streams A distinct stream for each production Each event’s own feed Shows need different content or streaming settings

Use one public event video if viewers do not need separate event pages. Creating multiple broadcasts is useful when each event should have its own YouTube video; it does not by itself make a single feed behave like multiple cameras or programs.

Plan stream and broadcast capacity

YouTube Help currently states a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key; both limits apply at the same time. If either limit is reached, another stream cannot be started. These are active-stream limits, not a promise that every channel can run 10 simultaneous event videos: the stream/key caps and account eligibility also matter. Check the live settings for the channel and confirm the planned stream keys have room before the event.

If you manage broadcasts through the YouTube Live Streaming API, its error reference names concurrentBroadcastsExceedLimit and sharedIngestionBroadcastsExceedLimit for channel concurrency and shared-ingestion limits. Treat either as a signal to review active broadcasts/streams and the relevant limit rather than repeatedly retrying the same start request.

Set up multiple event videos

  1. Choose the feed design. Decide whether the broadcasts share identical incoming content or need distinct feeds/settings. Count the streams and stream keys you intend to have active, then check YouTube’s channel and key limits.
  2. Confirm the channel can go live. Check the account’s current live-stream status and any restrictions. YouTube Help says first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours; this is an estimate for enablement, not a guarantee of eligibility or approval.
  3. Create one broadcast per event video. Schedule or create the separate YouTube broadcasts so each event has its own video and event details.
  4. Bind broadcasts to streams. For identical content, associate each broadcast with the shared stream. For different productions, create the required distinct streams and associate each broadcast with its corresponding stream.
  5. Configure the encoder. Send the matching feed to each stream. A shared-feed setup needs the encoder to supply that same content; distinct shows require a production workflow that can generate and send their separate feeds and settings.
  6. Start and manage each broadcast. Transition each event independently using the chosen YouTube Studio or encoder workflow. In the API, broadcasts have states such as testing and live; follow the workflow you are using rather than assuming a particular control or screen.

Do you need another encoder or computer?

Not necessarily. YouTube supports webcam, mobile, console, and encoder streaming methods. An encoder may be software on a computer or standalone hardware; YouTube identifies screen/gameplay sharing, external audio/video hardware, and advanced production as encoder use cases.

A second event video alone does not require a second encoder: one incoming feed can serve multiple broadcasts. Separate feeds, scenes, settings, or production control may require a setup capable of producing and sending each stream. YouTube’s documentation does not establish a universal computer specification, encoder model, or bandwidth figure for every combination of simultaneous feeds. Work out those requirements for the actual production and quality you plan to send.

Troubleshoot a second event that will not start

  • YouTube reports a concurrency or shared-ingestion limit: Check the number of active streams on the channel and on the relevant stream key. End or reconfigure an event that should no longer be live, or plan within the applicable limits.
  • A second broadcast shows the wrong program: If both broadcasts use the same stream, they receive the same incoming content. Use a separate stream and feed for the distinct production.
  • The stream starts, but the event video is not live: Check the broadcast’s state and its association with the intended incoming stream; starting the encoder feed and transitioning the broadcast are separate parts of the workflow.
  • Live streaming is unavailable on the channel: Review the channel’s current live settings and restrictions. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube Help, so do not leave activation until event time.
  • The encoder cannot send all planned feeds: Reassess whether the shows truly need distinct streams and settings, and confirm the chosen software or hardware can produce them. The YouTube guidance does not specify universal CPU or bandwidth requirements.
