To stream multiple cameras on YouTube, use an encoder-based setup: bring each camera feed into software such as OBS or a hardware production system, compose the views, then send the finished program to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. Rehearse the whole signal path before the event; the right connection depends on your cameras, computer, and chosen video settings.
What you need for a multi-camera YouTube stream
- Two or more camera feeds: Confirm what output each camera provides and whether it can send video while connected to your setup.
- A production system: OBS can arrange camera feeds into scenes and send the composed program to YouTube. A hardware production device is another option when your workflow calls for physical input switching.
- A way to get each feed into the system: A webcam may connect directly as a video source. A camera with HDMI output generally needs a compatible capture device, unless a separate production device handles the input.
- A YouTube encoder stream: Use YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room to create or select a stream and supply its stream URL and stream key to the encoder.
- Enough upload capacity: YouTube says the total streaming bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth and recommends 20% headroom.
YouTube identifies encoder streaming as the route for external audio and video hardware and advanced productions, including a few cameras and microphones. OBS’s official documentation describes scenes and sources as the basis for a stream layout, with webcams and capture cards among the supported source types. Choose how each camera connects
Webcam or USB video device
If the computer recognizes a camera as a video-capture device, add it directly as a source in OBS. Confirm that the operating system and OBS can access it, then check its available format, resolution, and frame rate.
Camera with HDMI output
For an HDMI camera, a compatible capture card can bring its video into the computer as a capture source. Match the camera’s output to the capture device’s supported inputs and video modes, and check the computer connection, operating-system support, and OBS compatibility before buying. A capture card is not automatically necessary for every camera: it is useful when the chosen camera-to-computer path requires one.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Hardware production or switching device
A dedicated video production device may suit a setup where camera inputs and switching are handled outside OBS. Verify the specific device’s inputs, outputs, supported formats, and compatibility with the cameras and YouTube workflow; capabilities vary by model.
There is no universal camera-count limit established for OBS in the cited documentation. The practical limit depends on the computer, active video sources, capture hardware, resolution, frame rate, and encoding workload.

Set up OBS scenes for camera views
- Add the camera feeds. In OBS, add each available webcam or capture-card input as a video capture source. If a device does not appear, check its cable, operating-system access, and whether another application is already using it.
- Arrange each layout. Resize and position sources in a scene. Make the views you need—for example, a wide shot, a close-up, or picture-in-picture—and order sources so the intended image sits in front.
- Prepare switching choices. Create the layouts you expect to use and practice moving between them. Hide or show sources as needed so a camera that is not part of the current view does not appear unexpectedly.
- Check each input’s video settings. In the capture source’s properties, review the available format, resolution, and frame rate. Choose settings the camera and capture device both support; device options depend on the hardware and operating system. See the OBS video capture devices guide.
- Check the finished program. Watch the OBS preview while changing scenes and verify that every view is framed correctly and that audio is present and intelligible.
Connect OBS to YouTube
- Confirm streaming eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so check the channel’s status before planning a broadcast. YouTube live-streaming access guidance
- Create or select the encoder stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and set up or select the stream for the event.
- Copy the connection details. In the stream’s encoder settings, get the YouTube stream URL and stream key, then enter them in OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on screen or share it publicly.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview. Start streaming from OBS, then check the incoming picture and sound in Live Control Room. YouTube’s scheduling guidance says to wait until the preview appears before selecting Go live. YouTube encoder setup steps
- End the broadcast deliberately. When the event is over, stop the stream in the encoder and confirm the broadcast has ended in YouTube Studio.
Plan bandwidth and rehearse the entire signal path
Your upload connection carries the finished encoder output, not a separate YouTube broadcast for every camera. The outgoing bitrate still depends on your chosen output settings; the available sources do not establish one bitrate that fits every production.
- Use the encoder’s total outgoing bitrate when assessing the connection. Include a backup feed in the total if one is active.
- YouTube recommends 20% spare upload capacity. Its guidance says the primary stream, any backup stream, and the headroom together should remain within available upload bandwidth. YouTube network, bitrate, and encoder guidance
- Test the cameras, switching, audio, encoder connection, and YouTube preview together—not just each device on its own.
- Set up ahead of the event, start the encoder early enough to inspect the Live Control Room preview, and check the watch page on the devices your audience is likely to use.
- Monitor picture and sound throughout the stream. A stable preview before the event does not remove the need to watch for changes during it.

Choose the right production approach
| Approach | Useful when | Check before committing |
|---|---|---|
| OBS with webcam or capture sources | You want to compose camera feeds in software scenes and the feeds can reach the computer. | Computer workload, camera count for your particular setup, device access, and matching video modes. |
| OBS plus capture cards | A camera’s output needs a capture device to enter the computer. | Camera output, capture-card inputs and supported formats, computer interface, operating-system support, and OBS compatibility. |
| Hardware production device | Your workflow calls for dedicated physical inputs or switching outside the software scene workflow. | The exact device’s camera inputs, output path, supported modes, and integration with the encoder workflow. |
The documentation does not establish model-by-model compatibility, a universal maximum camera count, or a performance threshold for a particular computer. Confirm the exact gear and settings in its manuals and test before the live event.
Troubleshoot common multi-camera problems
A camera does not appear in OBS
- Check that the camera is powered on, connected to the expected port, and recognized by the operating system.
- Confirm that OBS has permission to use the device and that another application is not occupying it.
- For a capture card, check the camera-to-card connection and whether the camera’s output mode is supported by the card.
The picture is blank, unstable, or the wrong size
- Open the source properties and check the selected device, format, resolution, and frame rate against what the camera and capture device support.
- Check the physical signal path, including camera output and capture-device input. Change one setting at a time so you can identify which mismatch caused the problem.
The wrong camera is visible after switching
- Check the selected scene and the order and visibility of its sources.
- Rehearse each transition in the OBS preview before starting the YouTube broadcast.
YouTube does not show an incoming preview
- Confirm OBS is sending to the intended YouTube stream and that its stream URL and key match the stream selected in Live Control Room.
- Check that the encoder is actually streaming, then allow time for the incoming preview to appear before selecting Go live.
- If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder rather than continuing with a compromised credential.
The stream drops or the video and audio degrade
- Check whether the encoder’s total outgoing bitrate is within the available upload capacity, leaving the 20% headroom YouTube recommends.
- Count any active backup feed when assessing total bandwidth.
- Inspect the camera and capture-device settings as well as the network; a multi-camera signal chain has more than one possible point of failure.
Keep copyright and channel eligibility in view
Live access and the right to use material in a broadcast are separate issues. Verify that your channel meets YouTube’s stated live-streaming access requirements before the event, and use video, music, and other material you have permission to stream. Platform rules and account status can change; check the current guidance in YouTube Studio and YouTube Help before going live.
