Not as a verified combined workflow. StreamYard documents sending its studio to an existing YouTube event through custom RTMP, and YouTube separately documents sending OBS or another encoder directly to YouTube. The official instructions here do not confirm that OBS can feed into StreamYard, or that both can send to the same YouTube event at once. Choose one documented sending path and test it on an unlisted event before relying on it.
What “use StreamYard with OBS” can mean
There are two separate documented routes to YouTube, rather than a confirmed OBS-to-StreamYard handoff:
- StreamYard studio to YouTube: connect StreamYard to an existing YouTube Live event using that event’s RTMP URL and stream key. StreamYard says custom RTMP destinations require a paid plan. StreamYard: Connect an existing YouTube Live Stream and Connect a custom RTMP destination.
- OBS encoder to YouTube: enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in OBS’s stream settings, then start the encoder and complete any required “Go live” action in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
These instructions do not establish OBS as a source inside the StreamYard studio, nor do they validate two senders publishing to one YouTube event simultaneously. Don’t treat either arrangement as supported based on these directions alone.
Use StreamYard to send to an existing YouTube event
- Create or schedule the event in YouTube Live Control Room. Open the event and, in Additional settings, enable Auto-start as directed by StreamYard.
- Copy the event’s RTMP URL and stream key. Treat the key as private authentication information; do not publish it or share it as though it were a public viewing link. YouTube says an owner or manager can reset a stream key. See Manage live stream settings.
- Add a custom RTMP destination in StreamYard. Enter YouTube’s RTMP URL and stream key in the destination setup.
- Create a StreamYard broadcast and select that destination. Start the broadcast by clicking “Go Live” in StreamYard.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room. Confirm the preview and stream health before you rely on the event. StreamYard notes that YouTube comments will not appear in the StreamYard studio for this custom connection, and scheduling is unavailable for it.
StreamYard describes this route for an existing YouTube stream; its custom RTMP connection is available on paid plans. Check its current plan details before choosing it, since no current plan price is established here.

Use OBS directly as the YouTube encoder
- Confirm the channel can livestream. YouTube’s live-streaming tips say the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. See YouTube live streaming tips – Computer.
- Open the YouTube event in Live Control Room. Create or select the event whose stream you intend to send.
- Copy YouTube’s server URL and stream key into OBS. Use the stream settings in your encoder. Keep the key private; reset it in YouTube if it has been exposed.
- Start streaming from OBS, then check Live Control Room. Depending on the event’s auto-start settings, you may also need to click “Go live” in Live Control Room. Use the preview and stream-health messages to verify that YouTube is receiving the feed.
- Test the actual show format before going public. YouTube recommends testing representative audio and video and monitoring stream health. Verify that your local recording is present and growing if you are making one. See Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions and YouTube live streaming tips – Computer.
Use YouTube’s current encoder-settings guidance for bitrate, resolution and related settings; the instructions cited here do not establish a specific OBS configuration for every production. Avoid assuming a StreamYard-and-OBS combination will improve quality or reliability: the cited official materials do not provide a tested comparison of image quality or uptime.
Can the stream run continuously beyond 12 hours?
A live event lasting longer than 12 hours is not a safe promise of a complete YouTube replay or full rewind. YouTube says a stream under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” YouTube also says DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. See Archive live streams and Turn on DVR on live streams.

If preserving the programme matters, keep a local recording and confirm that the file is intact. YouTube recommends monitoring the stream and checking local archive files. For continuous programming, also consider whether your channel has permission to use every video, audio track and other material in the stream; a continuous format does not remove copyright obligations. Review YouTube’s live-streaming tips and its encoder settings guidance before the event.
Which route should you choose?
| Route | Best fit | What to account for |
|---|---|---|
| StreamYard custom RTMP | You want to produce the broadcast in StreamYard and send it to an existing YouTube event. | Requires a paid StreamYard plan; YouTube comments do not appear in the StreamYard studio for this connection, and scheduling is unavailable. |
| OBS directly to YouTube | You want OBS to be the encoder sending to YouTube. | Enter YouTube’s server URL and key in OBS, then follow the event’s Live Control Room workflow. |
| StreamNeo | You want uploaded videos to loop as a YouTube stream from the cloud rather than keep a production computer running. | One always-on YouTube stream per slot; the uploaded video is streamed as made, up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot. The first day is free with no card. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is continuous YouTube programming from uploaded videos, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud loops the uploaded video, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the file as uploaded up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. This is for uploaded video, not a live camera feed, and it streams to YouTube.
