Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo edit a video in CapCut, create a project, import or select your clips, arrange and trim them on the timeline, add only the effects or captions you need, review the full edit, and export it. The controls differ between mobile and desktop, so follow the workflow for the device you are using.
Start a project on your device
On mobile
- Open CapCut and tap New project.
- Select the video clips you want to edit from your device, then add them to the project.
On desktop
- Open CapCut and create a new project.
- Import your media or drag it into the editor. CapCut’s desktop workflow is documented at CapCut’s how-to guide.
Choose the workflow that matches where your footage is stored and the interface shown on your screen; mobile and desktop controls are not identical. CapCut’s beginner tutorial also walks through starting a project.
Arrange and edit clips on the timeline
- Place the clips in the order you want them to appear. Play the sequence to check that the story or explanation makes sense.
- Move the playhead to the point where a clip should be cut, select the clip, and use the split control.
- Remove unwanted sections and review the cut. Repeat for each section that needs shortening or rearranging.
- Crop or rotate footage if the framing needs adjustment. CapCut also documents freeze, reverse, and flip tools; use them only when they support the intended edit.
For a straightforward clip, a clear sequence and well-placed cuts usually matter more than decorative effects. CapCut’s basic-tools guide and desktop instructions describe these editing controls.
Add captions, audio, and finishing touches
Once the sequence works, add only the elements the video needs. CapCut’s desktop toolset includes text, captions, audio, transitions, effects, filters, and stickers. A transition can help connect two shots, but it is optional; avoid adding effects that distract from the content.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Generate and check desktop auto captions
- Open Captions > Auto captions.
- Choose the language and generate the captions.
- Review the wording and timing against the audio, correcting mistakes before export.
CapCut’s desktop caption instructions describe the generation path, but do not guarantee caption accuracy. Treat generated captions as a draft, not a verified transcript.
Use advanced controls only when the edit calls for them
Animate movement with keyframes
Keyframes let you set a property at one point in the clip and another value later, with CapCut animating the change between them. For example, set Position, Scale, Rotation, or Opacity at the starting point, move the playhead, then set a second value. See CapCut’s keyframe guide.

Explore other desktop tools selectively
CapCut’s desktop guide also documents masks, blend modes, color adjustments, and speed curves. A basic edit does not need these tools; use them when you have a specific visual or pacing result in mind. The tool overview describes the wider set of options.
Review and export the finished video
- Play the full edit from beginning to end. Check cuts, framing, caption wording and timing, and audio before exporting.
- Select Export and review the available output controls, which CapCut’s desktop guide lists as resolution, frame rate, format, codec, and bitrate.
- Choose an aspect ratio suited to the destination. CapCut’s desktop page gives 9:16 for TikTok and 16:9 for YouTube as examples, not universal requirements.
- Choose the resolution, frame rate, and other export settings actually available in your version, on your device, and for your account, then export and check the resulting file.
CapCut documents options up to 4K resolution and 60 fps, but these are not guaranteed to be available to every user or device. Availability can vary by version, device, and account. Do not assume a particular export setting is present until you see it in the app. See CapCut’s export details and desktop export guide.

Common problems and practical fixes
- The tutorial’s buttons do not match your screen: confirm whether its instructions are for desktop or mobile. The interfaces and paths differ.
- A cut is in the wrong place: move the playhead to the intended point, select the correct clip, split again if needed, and remove the unwanted section.
- Auto captions contain errors: review the generated text and timing against the audio and correct them manually before publishing.
- An export option is missing: check which settings your current device, CapCut version, and account offer. The documented maximums are not universal guarantees.
- A tool will not export without a subscription: CapCut says most features are free, while some Pro tools require a subscription to export their output. Current pricing, paywall details, and regional availability are not established here; verify access inside the app before building your edit around a gated feature.
