The story that the image shows a bullied girl named Katy Robinson who died by suicide is an unverified internet rumor. The image circulated before the best-known version of Jeff’s backstory, and the original photo’s subject and creator remain unidentified in the sources reviewed here.
Who is Jeff the Killer?
Jeff the Killer is an internet-horror character associated with a distorted, pale face and the line “Go to sleep.” He is fictional, not a documented murderer. The familiar image and the character’s origin story are related in online folklore, but they have different histories: the image circulated before the best-known version of the story.
Know Your Meme traces a 2008 story presentation and a later, widely known version published on the Creepypasta Wiki in 2011. The two accounts differ, so details from them should not be blended into one supposedly original biography. Know Your Meme’s Jeff the Killer history distinguishes the versions and describes the image’s early circulation.
Is Jeff the Killer real, and is the picture real?
Jeff is a fictional character. The picture is a real image that circulated online, but the evidence cited here does not identify the original photograph’s subject or creator. Its first known online appearances do not establish who took or edited it, or whether the face depicts a particular person.

It then places the image in a YouTube video in 2007 and in a Newgrounds post by user “killerjeff” on August 14, 2008. Those dates describe reported online appearances, not a verified origin for the underlying photograph. Know Your Meme

Who is the girl in the Jeff the Killer picture?
It has not been established who appears in the original image. The sources reviewed here do not conclusively identify the photograph’s subject or maker. Claims that the image depicts a specific girl should therefore be treated as unresolved, rather than repeated as fact.
Did Katy Robinson die because of the picture?
No reliable evidence in the sources cited here establishes that a person named Katy Robinson died by suicide because of bullying about her appearance, or that she is the person in the Jeff image. Know Your Meme describes the Katy Robinson connection as a rumor and identifies Heather White in material associated with it; it says White was not behind the iconic Jeff edits. Dictionary.com also recounts the story but says its credibility is unclear.

That does not verify a death, connect a real person to the image, or show that the picture is haunted. The responsible answer is that the alleged death story is unverified and should not be presented as true. Know Your Meme; Dictionary.com’s Jeff the Killer entry
