In the YouTube app, use Create → Live → Schedule for later. Scheduling creates an upcoming event viewers can share and may let them select Notify me; it does not start the broadcast for you.
Schedule a stream from a computer
- Open YouTube Studio.
- Select Create → Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Open Manage, then select Schedule Stream.
- Choose Reuse settings to carry over settings from a previous stream, or choose Create new.
- Enter the event details, set its schedule, and save the setup. You can edit settings while scheduling.
To broadcast later with an encoder, connect it using the stream URL and stream key associated with the event. Start the encoder, check that its incoming video appears in Live Control Room, then select Go live. The scheduled event and the live broadcast are separate steps: creating the event does not send video to YouTube.
Schedule from a phone or tablet
- In the YouTube app, tap Create → Live.
- Edit the stream details and choose Schedule for later.
- Select the date, enter the remaining details, and finish creating the scheduled stream.
- When you are ready to broadcast, return to Create → Live, tap the calendar, choose the scheduled stream, and tap Go live.
Mobile live streaming has extra eligibility rules: the channel needs at least 50 subscribers, must be verified, must have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and must have live streaming enabled. YouTube says a first mobile live stream may take up to 24 hours to become available after activation. These additional requirements apply to mobile streaming, not universally to encoder or webcam streaming. Check YouTube’s mobile live-streaming requirements if the option is unavailable.
What viewers see and how to promote the event
A scheduled stream may appear in subscribers’ feeds as an upcoming event. Viewers who see it can select Notify me to request a notification when it is about to begin; YouTube does not guarantee that every subscriber will see the event in their feed. Share the event URL where your audience follows you so they can find the upcoming stream and set a reminder.

Choose a streaming method for the event
YouTube supports mobile, webcam, encoder, and console streaming. Scheduling is separate from choosing how to produce and send the broadcast. Pick the method that fits your location and production:

Prepare and check an encoder stream before airtime
- Set up the encoder at least 2 hours before the scheduled event, as YouTube recommends.
- Start the encoder at least 15 minutes before the event so there is time to check the incoming signal.
- Confirm the preview appears in Live Control Room, then check audio and video before selecting Go live.
- Verify viewers can access the event from your channel and watch pages and on mobile devices.
- If you use failover, test that the backup feed takes over as expected.

Rules to check before announcing a stream
For YouTube live streaming generally, the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Requirements vary by method; mobile has the additional thresholds described above. Review YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility and method guidance before promoting an event if your channel is new or has had restrictions.

Scheduling does not grant rights to broadcast material. Before streaming a documentary, film, music, or other third-party content, make sure you have the necessary permissions and that the planned use complies with YouTube’s copyright rules. YouTube also has channel monetization policies concerning reused content; copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate questions. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance and reused-content monetization policy before building a scheduled event around material you did not create.
Troubleshoot common scheduling problems
- “Go Live” or scheduling is unavailable: Check channel verification and any live-streaming restrictions. If you are using the mobile app, also check the 50-subscriber threshold and whether live streaming has been activated; first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- The event exists, but viewers see no live video: Scheduling only creates the event. Start the encoder or select Go live in the app when it is time to broadcast.
- The encoder feed is not visible: Confirm it is connected with the stream URL and key for the scheduled event, start the encoder, and wait for the Live Control Room preview before trying to go live.
- Viewers cannot find the event: Share the scheduled event URL directly. The event may appear in subscribers’ feeds, but feed visibility is not guaranteed.
- The first mobile stream cannot start immediately: If live streaming was just enabled, allow up to 24 hours for the first mobile stream to become available.
