For a 4K (2160p) 60 fps YouTube Live stream, set a 2-second keyframe interval, use 2 B-frames and 1 reference frame, and choose a closed GOP. If your encoder asks for the interval in frames, enter 120 at 60 fps. YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
Recommended 4K 60 fps settings
| Setting | What to use | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds, or 120 frames at 60 fps | YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| GOP structure | Closed GOP | YouTube says its pipeline requires a closed GOP for optimal transcoding. |
| Frame types | Progressive scan, 2 B-frames, 1 reference frame | These are YouTube’s recommended advanced frame settings. |
| Video bitrate for 2160p60 | AV1 or H.265: 35 Mbps recommended, 10 Mbps minimum. H.264: 50 Mbps recommended, 14 Mbps minimum. | These are YouTube’s listed ingestion settings, not a guarantee your connection can sustain that bitrate. |
| Rate control | CBR | YouTube lists constant bitrate encoding in its encoder settings. |
| Ingest protocol | RTMPS recommended; RTMP is also listed | YouTube recommends RTMPS. |
These settings follow YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions and its live streaming error guidance. Encoder labels differ, so look for equivalent controls such as “keyframe interval,” “GOP length,” “B-frames,” “reference frames,” and “closed GOP.”
Set the keyframe interval and GOP
When the encoder asks for seconds
Enter 2 seconds for the keyframe interval. This is YouTube’s recommended frequency for live encoding; do not set it above 4 seconds.
When the encoder asks for frames
Use 120 frames for a 2-second interval at 60 fps: 60 frames per second × 2 seconds = 120 frames. If the encoder instead asks for a GOP size, set it to the equivalent fixed interval and confirm that it is closed rather than open or variable.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose a closed GOP
If your encoder exposes GOP mode, choose Closed or the equivalent fixed-GOP option. YouTube says a closed GOP is required by its pipeline for optimal transcoding. Open or variable GOP behavior can contribute to ingestion errors or incorrect GOP sizes.
Set B-frames and reference frames
Use 2 B-frames and 1 reference frame, with progressive scan. These are YouTube’s recommended advanced frame settings. If your encoder does not expose one of these controls, use the available settings rather than substituting an unverified value; the exact controls depend on the encoder and selected codec.

Choose a codec and bitrate your connection can sustain
Compare YouTube’s 4K60 bitrate guidance
| Ingest codec | Recommended video bitrate | Minimum video bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| AV1 or H.265 (HEVC) | 35 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| H.264 | 50 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s ingestion bitrate recommendations for 4K/2160p at 60 fps. The available encoder, codec support, and upload connection all affect which setting is practical. YouTube’s ranges depend on codec, resolution, and frame rate; choose a quality level that remains reliable on your actual connection and test the upload bitrate before the event.
HDR and codec choice
YouTube lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 for live encoding, up to 60 fps. For HDR over RTMP(S), YouTube recommends H.265 and says AV1 is not supported for HDR. Check that your encoder supports the codec and HDR format you intend to send.

Latency at 4K
YouTube’s low-latency option is unavailable for 4K/2160 streams. They are optimized for quality and set to normal latency.
Apply the settings in your encoder and verify the signal
- Select 2160p at 60 fps as the video output resolution and frame rate.
- Choose an ingest codec supported by your encoder and required for your HDR workflow, if applicable.
- Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds, or 120 frames if the field uses frames.
- Set GOP mode to closed if the encoder provides that option.
- Set progressive scan, 2 B-frames, and 1 reference frame where those advanced controls are available.
- Set CBR and choose the bitrate appropriate to your codec, while keeping within what your upload connection can reliably sustain.
- Use RTMPS when available, then run a test stream before the broadcast.
There is no single UI path for these controls: names and menus vary by encoder. YouTube maintains a list of verified live encoders; the products are made by their respective vendors, not YouTube.

Test and troubleshoot before an important stream
Test with representative content
Before going live, test with audio and motion similar to the planned broadcast. A static screen alone may not reveal problems that appear in a documentary with movement, cuts, or active audio. During the event, monitor YouTube stream health and review any messages it reports.
Common symptoms and fixes
- YouTube reports an incorrect GOP size or keyframe issue: confirm the interval is 2 seconds (120 frames at 60 fps), not greater than 4 seconds, and that the encoder is sending a closed GOP.
- The stream is unstable at the chosen bitrate: test upload capacity and select a bitrate your connection can sustain. YouTube’s published recommendations describe ingestion settings, not guaranteed network performance.
- HDR does not work with the selected codec: for HDR over RTMP(S), use H.265 rather than AV1, which YouTube says is not supported for HDR.
- A low-latency setting is unavailable at 4K: this is expected; YouTube sets 4K streams to normal latency, optimized for quality.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a continuous YouTube stream from uploaded documentary footage, StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud: upload your video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; your computer, OBS, and home connection can be off. It streams uploaded video rather than a live camera feed, supports the video as uploaded up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
