Use an end screen for clickable prompts shown during the final seconds of an eligible video. They serve different moments: an end screen is not an automatic live-to-live handoff.
Live Redirect vs. end screens at a glance
| What to compare | Live Redirect | End screen |
|---|---|---|
| When it appears | After a live stream or Premiere ends | During the final 5–20 seconds of an eligible video |
| What it does | Directs viewers to a selected Premiere or, with permission, another channel’s live stream | Displays clickable elements such as a video, playlist, subscription prompt, channel, or eligible external link |
| Eligibility and availability | The channel sending viewers needs more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes; another channel must permit redirects | The video must be at least 25 seconds long; end screens are unavailable in some contexts, including videos marked made for kids |
| Viewer control | Autoplay can continue viewers to the destination; viewers with autoplay off must click to play | Viewers can hide end screens, and display can vary by device and context |
| Where to set it up | YouTube Studio > Content > Live > edit source > Customization > Redirect | YouTube Studio > Content > select video > Editor > End screen |
These details follow YouTube Help’s current instructions, accessed October 3, 2026: Live Redirect and end screens.
When to use Live Redirect
Choose Live Redirect if the intended action is: “When this broadcast ends, guide viewers to the next live event or Premiere.” You can send viewers to a Premiere or, if its channel permits it, another channel’s live stream. The feature is a post-stream transition, not an element displayed while the source stream is still playing.
Requirements and cross-channel permission
- Sender eligibility: YouTube says the channel sending the redirect must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes.
- Recipient permission: To redirect to another channel’s live stream, that channel must allow it in YouTube Studio.
- Recipient choices: A channel can allow redirects from channels it subscribes to (unless subscriptions are private), from all channels, or from selected channels. YouTube says the selected-channel list supports up to 100 channels. The all-channels option cannot be combined with the subscribed-channels option or manual list; the subscribed-channels setting can be combined with selected channels.
If a channel is missing from your destination list, check whether it is live and whether its redirect permissions allow your channel. Also confirm that your own channel meets YouTube’s sender requirements.

Set a redirect from a live stream
- In YouTube Studio, open Content, then select the Live tab.
- Edit the source live stream and open Customization.
- Under Redirect, select Add.
- Choose a Premiere or search for another channel’s live stream, then confirm the selection.
- Before the broadcast, verify the destination and, for another channel’s stream, ask its owner to confirm redirect permission.
YouTube also allows a Premiere to be configured to redirect viewers when it finishes. See YouTube’s Live Redirect instructions.
Make a Premiere handoff easier to follow
If your destination is a Premiere, set it up before configuring the source live stream. Tell viewers to wait briefly after the stream ends while the screen reloads; YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance suggests an approximate two-second wait. You can also pin a message in the Premiere’s live chat pointing viewers to the stream, and allow other streamers to redirect to your live event if you want to receive incoming audiences. See Manage live stream settings.

When to use an end screen
Choose an end screen when you want viewers to see clickable next steps as a video concludes—for example, another video, a playlist, or a subscription prompt. You can select a video or playlist from your channel or another channel. A channel element can promote another channel; an external website link is available to channels in the YouTube Partner Program.

End-screen limits and visibility
- End screens can appear in a video’s last 5–20 seconds, and the video must be at least 25 seconds long.
- A standard 16:9 video can have up to four elements; other aspect ratios may allow fewer.
- End screens are unavailable for videos marked made for kids. YouTube also lists contexts in which they may not appear, including mobile web (except iPad mobile web), YouTube Music or YouTube Kids apps, Flash videos, and 360 videos.
- Viewers can hide end screens, and YouTube says their appearance can vary with device, context, performance, and viewer behavior.
Add an end screen in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Content.
- Select the video, then choose Editor.
- Choose End screen and add the elements you want.
- Adjust each element’s timing and placement, then preview the result.
- After publication, review end-screen performance in YouTube Analytics.
For current availability details, see YouTube’s end-screen guidance.
Can an end screen send viewers to another live stream?
You can select another channel’s video or playlist for an end screen, and YouTube offers a channel element. But YouTube’s end-screen guidance does not describe the feature as an automatic handoff from one live broadcast to another. If your goal is to move viewers after a broadcast ends, set up Live Redirect; if you want a clickable next step during a video’s ending, use an end screen.

Use both when the viewer moments are different
If you want a post-broadcast handoff and a separate call to action in an eligible video, configure each feature independently in its own Studio area. Live Redirect handles the transition after a live stream or Premiere ends; an end screen presents in-video choices near a video’s end. Neither guarantees that every viewer will follow the suggested path.
