You can keep a true crime podcast playing on YouTube Live by sending a prepared episode playlist to YouTube through streaming software or a hardware encoder. In YouTube Studio, create an encoder stream, enter its stream URL and key in the encoder, check the preview in Live Control Room, then go live and monitor stream health. For a channel intended to run continuously, plan how playback will restart after interruptions—and do not rely on YouTube to archive a broadcast longer than 12 hours.
Can you stream podcast episodes on YouTube 24/7?
You can set up an encoder to send a prepared sequence of episodes to YouTube Live. The sequence might be a playlist with episode audio and visuals, or a show with live host commentary mixed in. YouTube’s encoder workflow supports software and professional hardware encoders, but its guidance does not promise uninterrupted 24/7 operation. You will need to plan for monitoring, interruptions and restarts rather than assume the stream will run indefinitely without attention. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
What to prepare before creating the stream
Check live-stream eligibility
YouTube says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days to stream. Confirm that the channel is eligible in YouTube Studio before building a launch schedule; restrictions can affect whether you can start a broadcast. The current requirements are in YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Build a rights-cleared program
Gather the podcast episodes and visuals you intend to use, then arrange them into a playback sequence. A static cover image or episode artwork can accompany audio, but you need the rights for each recording, image, music track, clip and other element in the stream. This matters especially for true crime: interviews, archival news audio, court recordings, photographs and music may belong to someone else. Having a copy of material, or having previously published it in a podcast, does not by itself establish that you may stream it on YouTube.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A detected match can interrupt or terminate a broadcast if the content remains. If you have a license for material that is detected, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its allowlist. Review YouTube’s terms and its copyright guidance for live streams before broadcasting.
Choose how to send the program
A software encoder can send your prepared playback sequence to YouTube. A professional hardware encoder is another option for higher-production events. Compare the options for your own workflow: can they repeat or restart the playlist, recover after an application or network interruption, show useful stream-health information, and record a separate local copy? The cited YouTube guidance describes encoder options; it does not compare specific products or guarantee 24/7 continuity.

If you are only playing completed episodes, a live microphone and audio interface are not required. They are optional equipment if a host will add narration or commentary during the stream. A microphone or interface does not, by itself, automate continuous playback.
How to create and launch the encoder stream
- Open YouTube Studio: select Create → Go Live, then use the Stream tab to create or schedule an encoder stream. YouTube provides a stream URL and stream key for the encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not show or publish it.
- Load the program in your encoder: select the episode playlist or playback sequence and connect the encoder to YouTube using the stream URL and key. Set the visuals and audio you want viewers to receive. If you are adding live commentary, configure the microphone or audio interface as an input; for prerecorded playback alone, it is not essential.
- Test before launch: use representative episode audio and visuals. Check that audio is audible and in sync, that the intended image or video appears, and that the playlist advances or repeats as expected. YouTube recommends testing in advance.
- Preview in Live Control Room: start the encoder and wait for the incoming preview. Confirm the stream on the watch page as well as in Live Control Room. If scheduled, use Live Control Room to start the broadcast after the preview is ready.
- Monitor while live: watch stream health and check audio and video quality. For a continuous channel, decide in advance who will notice a failure and how playback will be restarted or moved to a new broadcast block. Test that transition; the official guidance does not document an uninterrupted 24/7 guarantee.
- End deliberately: when stopping a broadcast, follow YouTube’s guidance to stop the encoder after the event has stopped on YouTube. If you are dividing a continuous program into blocks, test the handoff and the next start before relying on it.
For the platform’s step-by-step encoder setup, see YouTube Help. Its recommendations on testing, previewing, monitoring and ending a stream are in YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

Will YouTube archive a 24/7 live stream?
Do not count on YouTube to preserve a continuous broadcast in full. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. If keeping every episode broadcast matters, use shorter broadcast blocks and make a separate local recording. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
