On desktop, click Done for a title or description edit; on iPhone or iPad, tap the checkmark; in YouTube Studio on Android, tap Save. The confirmation steps differ by interface, and a playlist made up only of Shorts cannot be manually reordered.
Confirm the edit in the interface you are using
YouTube’s editing controls vary by platform. Make one change, use that platform’s confirmation control, and then reopen the playlist to verify it.
Desktop YouTube
- Open the playlist from the YouTube Guide and choose Edit by the relevant section.
- For a title or description, change the field and click Done. In the described flow for adding a description, clicking outside the edit box saves it.
- To change video order, drag a video or Short up or down.
- Navigate away and reopen the playlist, or refresh the page, then check the edited field or order.
If the instructions do not match the controls on screen, YouTube says the site may be an older version and recommends updating to the current YouTube version. YouTube’s playlist editing instructions
YouTube app on iPhone or iPad
- Open Library, select the playlist, and tap Edit.
- Change the title or description, then tap the checkmark in the upper corner to confirm.
- To reorder items, press and hold the two-line handle beside a video or Short and drag it.
- Return to the playlist and reopen it to check that the change remains.
YouTube Studio app on Android
- Open Studio, go to Content, and select the Playlists tab.
- Open the playlist’s options, tap Edit, and change the title, description, privacy, or order.
- Tap Save, then reopen the playlist and inspect the change.
To change whether a video belongs to the playlist, edit the video, adjust its playlist checkbox, tap Done, and then tap Save. YouTube Studio playlist instructions

Check what kind of change failed
Title or description
Use the completion control for your platform, then reopen the playlist and inspect the text. A visible change before confirmation is not enough to establish that it was saved.
Visibility or privacy
In Studio, open Content > Playlists > Details, select the intended visibility, and tap Save. In the YouTube app, open the playlist’s edit controls, choose the privacy setting, and save or confirm it.

Adding or removing a video
If you changed playlist membership through YouTube Studio on Android, complete both confirmation steps: tap Done after adjusting the video’s playlist checkbox, then tap Save for the playlist edit.

Order of videos or Shorts
Make the reorder from the playlist’s editing controls and verify it after reopening the playlist. A drag in a watch-page panel may change the temporary display order rather than the playlist’s saved order. Also check whether the playlist contains only Shorts: YouTube does not offer manual reordering for a playlist made up exclusively of Shorts. That is a feature limitation, not evidence that saving failed. YouTube Help: playlist editing and ordering
Why won’t my YouTube playlist changes save?
The official playlist editing instructions describe how to make changes, but do not identify a single cause when an edit reverts. Use this sequence to narrow down what is happening; these checks are practical troubleshooting, not guaranteed fixes.

- Identify the exact edit. Note whether it was a title, description, privacy setting, membership change, or order change.
- Try one small change. Avoid changing several fields at once while diagnosing. Use the platform-specific confirmation action above.
- Reopen the playlist. Navigate away and return, or refresh on desktop, then look at the specific field or order. This is a verification step, not a special YouTube repair procedure.
- For an order change, check the playlist type. Manual reordering is unavailable if it contains only Shorts.
- Check the signed-in account and feature availability. YouTube notes that playlist editing may not be available for supervised accounts. Its guidance includes the caveat, “This feature may not be available with supervised accounts on YouTube.”
- Update the app, site, or browser where appropriate. YouTube warns that an older site version may not match current desktop instructions, and that older browsers can have problems with newer features. These are reasons to check versions, not proof that outdated software caused the edit to revert. YouTube Help: supported browsers
- Try another current YouTube interface. Make one small edit in a different supported app or browser and check it again. This can help establish whether the issue appears limited to one interface, but YouTube’s help pages do not promise that switching interfaces will fix persistence.
- If it still reverts, send feedback. Include your device and operating system, YouTube app or browser version, playlist type, exact edit, the confirmation action you used, and what appeared after reopening. YouTube’s editing instructions do not describe a guaranteed repair or resolution path.
If you edit playlists with the YouTube Data API
This applies to developers using the API, not people editing in the YouTube app or Studio. The playlists.update method modifies playlist data and requires authorization. Its documentation warns that if an update request omits snippet.description, the existing description is deleted. Check the request payload before treating a description disappearing after an API update as a consumer-interface saving problem. YouTube Data API: playlists.update
