Fix clipping at the earliest point where a meter shows overload: reproduce your loudest bowl strike or singing, watch the microphone/interface input meter, and lower that input’s gain if it clips. Then check the streaming software’s source, filters, and output meters. A compressor or limiter can control peaks only after the input is clean; it cannot restore detail already lost to clipping.
Find where the clipping starts
Work through the signal chain in order: microphone, preamp or audio interface, streaming software source and processing, then the stream output. The first meter that indicates overload is the point to address. This is a diagnostic method; the cause depends on your particular equipment and settings.
- Recreate the loudest sound. Strike the bowl and sing at the strongest level you expect during the continuous stream. Keep the microphone and its position as they will be during the broadcast.
- Watch the microphone or interface input meter. If it clips, reduce the input gain or level at the interface or preamp. Do this before adjusting software filters or the stream output.
- Check the software source meter. If the input stays clean but the source meter clips, inspect source-level controls and any gain-boosting filters or plugins.
- Check buses and the master/output meter. Multiple individually reasonable gain stages can add up. If clipping first appears later in the chain, adjust processing or level at that stage rather than lowering an already-clean microphone input without reason.
- Repeat the loud test. Confirm the meter remains clean during both sharp strikes and sustained singing, not only during quiet passages.
Meter indicators vary by device. For example, the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2nd Gen guide documents a red gain ring at 0 dBFS, its digital clipping point; that indicator behavior applies to that model generation, not every interface. See the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2nd Gen user guide.
Compare a local recording with the live stream
Make a local recording using the same microphone, processing, and representative bowl sounds, then compare it with the stream preview or playback. If both recordings distort, look first at capture or processing. If the local recording is clean but delivered playback is distorted, inspect the encoder and YouTube’s stream-health information. This comparison helps locate the problem; it does not establish that YouTube transcoding caused it.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube says it transcodes live input into multiple output formats for playback across devices and networks. Transcoding is part of delivery, but that fact alone does not identify the source of clipping. See YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance.
Use compression or limiting only after the input is clean
Once the microphone and other early stages are no longer clipping, a compressor or limiter can help control remaining peaks. Focusrite’s DSP guide notes that a slower compressor attack allows more of a transient through, which can make clipping more likely. Adjust processing while listening to the loudest bowl strikes and sustained tones; aggressive compression or limiting may change the bowl’s natural ring.

Neither tool repairs waveform detail already lost because an earlier stage clipped. If an input or preamp overloads, lower that stage’s level first rather than trying to hide the distortion later. See the Focusrite DSP guide.
Check encoder audio settings and test before going live
After gain staging is clean, check that the encoder audio settings are compatible with YouTube’s recommendations. YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio, 44.1 kHz for stereo (48 kHz for 5.1 surround), and 128 kbps for stereo (384 kbps for 5.1 surround). These are delivery settings; they do not prevent clipping that happened earlier in the signal chain. Consult YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance for the full current recommendations.

YouTube Help advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
Troubleshoot common clipping symptoms
- The interface meter shows overload on strikes: lower the microphone/interface input gain, then repeat the loudest-strike test.
- The input meter is clean but the software source clips: review the source fader, filters, plugins, and any gain added before the source meter.
- The source is clean but the output clips: check downstream processing, buses, and master output for accumulated gain.
- A local recording and the stream both distort: investigate the capture and processing chain, beginning at the earliest meter that clips.
- The local recording is clean but stream playback distorts: inspect encoder settings and YouTube stream-health information; do not assume transcoding is the cause.
- Only the loudest bowl strike distorts: reproduce that strike during setup and set gain based on the loudest expected sound, not a quiet passage.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo keeps a YouTube stream playing uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. It is for uploaded videos, not a live microphone or camera, so first correct clipping in the recording itself.
