Yes—home broadband can carry a 24/7 YouTube live stream if its reliable upload speed exceeds the stream’s encoder bitrate with headroom. A plan advertised as “100 Mbps” is not enough information: that figure may describe download speed, and even a strong speed-test result does not prove the connection will stay up all day. Measure upload performance at the streaming computer, test the actual stream, and check your provider’s terms for your address.
Upload speed matters more than the plan’s download headline
Your encoder sends video and audio to YouTube, so the relevant broadband measure is upload capacity. YouTube notes that inbound bandwidth is often higher than outbound and advises checking that outbound capacity is sufficient for the stream. A plan’s advertised speed should therefore be checked for separate upload and download figures, then verified with tests at the place and times you will stream. YouTube filming tips
“100 Mbps broadband” does not by itself answer whether your setup will work. Find out whether 100 Mbps refers to download, upload, or both. Then compare the measured upload capacity with your chosen encoder bitrate, allow room for normal variation, and account for any other devices uploading on the connection.
How much upload speed does YouTube streaming need?
YouTube publishes recommended live ingest bitrates by resolution, frame rate, and codec. These are settings for the feed sent to YouTube—not minimum broadband plan tiers. The table below reproduces the listed formats and bitrates from YouTube’s live encoder settings guide. Its settings can change, so check that page when configuring a stream.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Ingest format | H.264 minimum | H.264 recommended | AV1/H.265 minimum | AV1/H.265 recommended |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps | 2 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps | 4 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps | 4 Mbps | 12 Mbps |
| 1440p30 | 7 Mbps | 21 Mbps | 5 Mbps | 15 Mbps |
| 4K/2160p30 | 11 Mbps | 42 Mbps | 8 Mbps | 30 Mbps |
YouTube recommends leaving 20% room above the stream bitrate. For example, the recommended 14 Mbps H.264 setting for 1080p30 implies planning for at least 16.8 Mbps of available upload capacity (14 × 1.2), before allowing for other household upload activity. That is a planning calculation applying YouTube’s headroom guidance, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service. The required rate depends on the format and codec; 14 Mbps is not a universal requirement for every 1080p stream. YouTube streaming tips
Can you stream all day over home Wi-Fi?
Possibly, but a good speed result does not establish that Wi-Fi or the broadband service will remain consistent for 24 hours. Wireless conditions can vary, and other household activity can use available upload capacity. For streaming from a computer, YouTube recommends an Ethernet connection to the router. A cable can reduce some wireless variability; it cannot fix an inadequate upstream service or prevent a power or ISP outage. YouTube does not require a particular Ethernet cable category in the cited guidance. YouTube filming tips

For a 24/7 channel, treat continuity separately from speed. Local power, modem or router stability, encoder crashes, ISP outages, monitoring, restart procedures, backup paths, and local recording can all affect whether a stream stays live. YouTube warns that a connectivity disruption can break a stream; a speed test is only a snapshot, not an uptime guarantee. YouTube streaming tips
How to test your connection before a continuous stream
- Choose the stream settings. Select the intended resolution, frame rate, codec, and encoder bitrate using YouTube’s live encoder settings guide.
- Check the plan’s upload rate. Look up the upload figure separately from download. Treat it as a provider’s stated rate, not a substitute for measurements at your address.
- Connect by Ethernet where practical. Pause competing uploads and consider other people and devices sharing the connection. YouTube recommends testing under conditions that resemble the intended stream.
- Run repeated upload tests at the streaming location. Test at different times, including the hours when the 24/7 stream will run. Compare measured upload capacity with the encoder bitrate plus YouTube’s recommended 20% room.
- Run an unlisted test stream. Include audio and movement similar to the intended video, then inspect stream health and messages in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
- Test recovery rather than assuming it works. If you use a backup encoder or failover path, verify the rollover process. Check that any local archive is actually growing. YouTube’s live streaming tips cover testing and monitoring.
- Read your provider’s current terms. Check for data caps, fair-use conditions, continuous-upload limits, and service availability for your address. Indian provider terms and performance vary; the global YouTube guidance does not establish a national broadband rule or an ISP-specific guarantee.
How much data does a 24/7 livestream use?
There is no single daily data figure: it depends on the bitrate and duration, and actual traffic can also vary with audio, protocol overhead, and encoding behavior. As a rough raw-transfer calculation for a constant bitrate, multiply megabits per second by 86,400 seconds, then divide by 8 to get megabytes. For example, 14 Mbps for 24 hours is about 151,200 MB, or roughly 151 GB using decimal units. This is a mathematical estimate, not a YouTube-published usage statistic or a precise measure of what your provider will count. Check the provider’s current data and fair-use terms.

Does India have a single broadband speed or uptime rule for this?
No India-wide plan recommendation follows from YouTube’s encoder table. The platform’s global help pages explain stream settings and connection practices; they do not establish upload symmetry, address-level availability, power reliability, provider tariffs, data limits, or an uptime guarantee for Indian residential broadband. Compare actual upload tests and terms for the specific connection you would use rather than assuming a provider or advertised tier will work everywhere.
