To run a 24/7 snowstorm-sounds stream on YouTube, prepare audio and visuals you have rights to use, send them through an encoder such as OBS to YouTube Live, and keep the computer, internet connection, and encoder running. Test the stream before making it public. A truly continuous broadcast also needs a plan for dropouts, restarts, copyright checks, and replays.
1. Clear the audio and visuals for livestreaming
Use a snowstorm recording and visual you created, or obtain permission that covers both live transmission on YouTube and any replay or archive. Keep the license, receipts, project files, and notes about where the material came from. Calling a recording “copyright-free” does not establish what its license permits.
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content; an unresolved match may interrupt or terminate the broadcast. If a licensed work triggers a match, YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to its allowlist for the stream to continue. An archive can also receive a Content ID claim after the live broadcast ends. YouTube’s copyright guidance and Terms of Service explain the rights obligations.
- Confirm that your license covers YouTube livestreaming, not just personal listening or downloaded use.
- Check whether the permission also covers YouTube archiving and replay.
- For sleep listening, check for abrupt edits, clicks, sudden volume peaks, voiceovers, and an obvious sound break at the loop point. These are production checks, not YouTube requirements or promises of a health benefit.
2. Activate YouTube Live and create a stream
Your channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Activating livestreaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so do this before the planned launch. See YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance.

- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- Create or select a stream, then choose an encoder workflow.
- Copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key into your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on screen or share it.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Check the preview before you start the public broadcast.
YouTube supports software and hardware encoders. Its encoder setup instructions describe connecting the encoder with the stream URL and key.
3. Build the snowstorm scene in OBS
In OBS Studio, create a scene for the broadcast and add the snowstorm visual and audio source you intend to use. Confirm that the audio meter responds to the correct source and that the visual appears in the preview. OBS documentation covers selecting a streaming service, entering a stream key, adding scenes and sources, and testing; it does not prescribe a particular 24/7 file-loop recipe. A still image or slow-moving snow visual is a creative option for a low-distraction ambience stream, not a YouTube requirement. Test the exact scene and audio behavior you plan to broadcast, including what happens when the media reaches its end or loops.
4. Choose stable encoder settings
Set the output for the connection and computer you actually have. YouTube’s live encoder settings list H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR); up to 60 frames per second; and recommend RTMPS for encrypted delivery.

- Keyframes: use a 2-second interval; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Stereo audio: YouTube’s advanced recommendations list a 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 kbps.
- Bitrate: use the official table for your chosen codec, resolution, and frame rate. As one example, YouTube lists 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps with H.264, and also 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps with AV1 or H.265/HEVC.
- Connection headroom: leave capacity beyond the selected stream bitrate; a recommended setting cannot guarantee that your internet connection or encoder will remain stable.
A static or slow-moving ambience scene may not need a high frame rate or the highest available resolution. Prioritize a mode your encoder and upload connection can sustain consistently.
5. Test before going public, then monitor it
Run a private or unlisted test if appropriate. YouTube recommends testing representative audio and movement, checking stream health, and monitoring playback quality. OBS also advises thorough preflight testing. See YouTube’s streaming tips and the OBS quick start guide.

- Start the encoder and confirm that Live Control Room receives the signal and displays the intended preview.
- Listen on a phone or another device for dropouts, clipping, distracting level changes, or silence at a loop boundary.
- Review YouTube’s stream-health messages and verify the public or test watch page plays as expected.
- For a continuous run, plan how you will notice and respond to power, network, encoder, or source-media failures. Check the stream after any restart.
Testing and monitoring reduce avoidable problems; they do not guarantee uninterrupted uptime. YouTube’s guidance does not promise automatic recovery from a failed connection or encoder.

What viewers can replay
YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not establish that a broadcast lasting 12 hours or more will be available as one complete replay. If a replay matters, plan separate sessions or another archive approach, and check YouTube’s current behavior before promising a complete VOD. See YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance.

What monetization requires
Monetization is not automatic. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to livestreams and expect original, authentic material; repetitive or mass-produced content may be ineligible. Copyright permission and reused-content eligibility are separate questions: having permission to use audio or visuals does not by itself ensure monetization approval. Distinct original recordings, considered sound design, meaningful visual creation, and a clear creative contribution can help show authorship, but none guarantees approval. You must also be in the YouTube Partner Program to monetize through the described live-stream flow. YouTube clarified its inauthentic-content wording on July 15, 2025.
7. Choose how to keep the stream running
The do-it-yourself OBS workflow gives you direct control over the scene, but the computer, power, network, and encoder must remain available. Other approaches shift the hardware or operating burden rather than removing it; YouTube identifies software and hardware encoders as options.
