What the California court has—and has not—decided
Cher filed a second petition in California in April 2026 seeking an estate conservatorship for Allman. Global News reported that her proposal included a private fiduciary to receive and manage trust distributions and pay expenses. At an April 24 hearing, the judge denied the request for a temporary conservatorship, finding insufficient urgency for that immediate order. The distinction matters: the April ruling rejected temporary relief, not necessarily the underlying petition. It should not be described as a final ruling that Allman either does or does not need a conservator.
Why the California hearing was continued
At a September hearing, Allman and his appointed lawyer did not appear. Geo News reported that the judge continued the California matter to December 1, 2026, and said the court would reappoint counsel. Judge Jessica A. Uzcategui said, “I am simply going to continue this matter. California conservatorship and New Hampshire guardianship are separate cases
The California proceeding concerns Cher’s petition for conservatorship of Allman’s estate. New Hampshire has a separate guardianship proceeding covering his person and estate. The September account said the New Hampshire question of who would serve as guardian remained unresolved. Cher’s lawyers had asked for the California matter to pause while proceedings in New Hampshire were underway; that request is distinct from any ruling on whether a California conservatorship is justified. The outlet also reported an annual trust distribution of US$120,000 attributed to a trust established by Gregg Allman, as recounted in court papers; that figure is reported case information, not an independently audited finding. King-Allman’s objection
On August 18, 2026, Marieangela King-Allman filed an objection and said she was willing to serve if a conservator were needed. KESQ/City News Service reported that she argued court-supervised treatment in New Hampshire and professional management of the trust made the proposed California conservatorship unnecessary. How the case reached a second petition
- December 2023: Cher filed an earlier petition seeking temporary control of Allman’s finances. A judge denied the request, saying the evidence did not establish that a conservatorship was urgently needed.

- February–March 2026: Allman was arrested in New Hampshire in connection with separate reported incidents. What happens next
The California case is set to return on December 1, 2026, with representation for Allman to be addressed through the court’s reappointment of counsel. The available September report does not establish the outcome of that hearing or who will be appointed in New Hampshire. Until the courts issue further decisions, the temporary denial, the parties’ arguments, and the unresolved guardianship question should be treated as separate parts of an ongoing dispute.
