Can a Cloud Service Loop Videos on an Unlisted YouTube Livestream?

A cloud service can act as a remote encoder to loop prerecorded videos on an unlisted YouTube livestream. Here’s how the setup works and what unlisted visibility does—and doesn’t—mean.

Yes. A cloud service can send prerecorded videos to YouTube as a continuous livestream while the stream’s visibility is set to unlisted. YouTube treats the service as a remote encoder: you create the livestream in YouTube Studio, connect it with the stream URL and key, and the service sends the selected video or playlist to YouTube. Unlisted is a visibility setting, not a guarantee of secrecy—anyone with the watch-page link may be able to view it.

What “cloud looping” means

YouTube does not provide a special “loop this upload as a live stream” switch. Instead, an encoder sends a live video feed to YouTube. A cloud looping service performs that encoder role remotely, using prerecorded media you select and broadcasting it continuously. Your computer and OBS do not need to stay running for the cloud service to keep sending the feed.

YouTube’s encoder setup guidance supports livestream visibility choices including public, private, and unlisted, and explains the server URL and stream-key workflow. A hosted provider such as Looping Stream describes selecting one video or multiple videos and broadcasting them continuously to YouTube. That is the provider’s description of its workflow, not independent verification of its reliability or security.

What unlisted does—and does not—protect

Unlisted means the livestream is not generally listed or discoverable like a public stream, but people who have its watch-page link may be able to watch it. YouTube’s production guidance notes that unlisted content can become accessible through sharing its direct URL. Share the link deliberately, and do not treat unlisted visibility as access control for sensitive material.

Unlisted is a YouTube setting on the livestream, not a privacy mode supplied by the looping service. The service still needs to send the video to YouTube using the stream destination and key you provide.

How to set up an unlisted cloud loop

  1. Enable live streaming on the channel. If live streaming has not been enabled before, YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours. Check the channel’s eligibility and status in YouTube Studio before planning a start time. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
  2. Create or schedule a livestream in YouTube Studio. Set its visibility to Unlisted. Confirm the title, description, and intended start time. Use the stream details YouTube provides for the encoder connection.
  3. Copy the stream URL and stream key into the cloud service. These are the destination credentials that let the service send a feed to your YouTube stream. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish it or share it casually. The cited provider information does not establish how a specific service stores or protects keys, so check its current security guidance and know how to rotate or revoke the key if needed.
  4. Choose the video or playlist and repeat behavior. Select the prerecorded file or ordered playlist, then configure looping and any schedule options the service offers. Confirm the service’s current limits for file types, storage, schedules, and output before relying on it.
  5. Start the cloud broadcast and verify it in YouTube Studio. Check the preview and stream health, then open the watch page and confirm that it is unlisted before distributing its link. YouTube’s encoder workflow includes a preview and stream-launch step; a successful start in the provider’s dashboard alone does not confirm the correct visibility or a healthy YouTube ingest.
  6. Decide what should happen to the livestream and its replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its cited guidance does not promise a complete archive for broadcasts longer than 12 hours, so do not depend on a full replay for a longer continuous run. Plan an intentional end time or keep a separate source copy if you need the full recording.

Check encoder compatibility before you start

YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP, for live ingest. Its encoder settings guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; and constant-bitrate encoding. The appropriate settings depend on resolution and frame rate. Use YouTube’s current recommendations together with the cloud provider’s supported output settings rather than assuming every service supports every codec, resolution, or frame rate.

YouTube’s verified-encoder directory lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming and reproduces the vendor’s stated Full HD and 4K capabilities. Those are vendor claims shown in the directory, not a guarantee of performance. The directory also lists AWS Elemental MediaLive as an encoder, but that listing by itself does not establish a ready-made playlist-looping workflow.

What to check before trusting a provider with a continuous stream

  • Media workflow: Can it loop a single video, play a playlist in a defined order, and schedule starts or stops in the way your channel needs?
  • Output compatibility: Confirm supported resolution, frame rate, codecs, bitrate behavior, and whether the service sends over RTMPS.
  • Visibility and credentials: Verify that you set visibility in YouTube Studio, understand the provider’s stream-key handling, and can revoke or replace the key.
  • Recovery and support: Ask what happens if YouTube disconnects the ingest, and what recovery behavior and support commitments the provider actually offers.
  • Capacity and terms: Check upload and storage limits, geographic availability, current pricing, billing period, and cancellation terms. These details vary by provider and should be confirmed directly; the cited descriptions do not establish them comparatively.
