How to Play a YouTube Live Playlist from Google Drive Using Cloud Playout

YouTube needs an encoder feed, not a Drive playlist link. Choose a scheduled prerecorded event or cloud loop, move the videos into the right service, and verify channel access, playlist behavior, and content rights.

YouTube does not play a Google Drive playlist directly as a live broadcast. Instead, move or import the video files into a cloud playout service, arrange them for a scheduled event or a continuous loop, and let that service send an encoder feed to YouTube. The right setup depends on whether you want one prerecorded broadcast or a playlist that keeps restarting.

Choose a scheduled broadcast or a continuous loop

These are different kinds of live streams, so decide which one you need before moving files or choosing a service.

  • One scheduled prerecorded broadcast: A service such as StreamYard can schedule a video to start at a chosen time and finish when that video ends. That is an event, not an automatically repeating playlist.
  • A continuous playlist: A cloud playout service such as Gyre can assemble uploaded videos into a playlist that restarts when it reaches the end. Confirm the service’s current behavior and scheduling limits before setting it up.

In either case, YouTube receives a live feed from an encoder or managed playout service. The documented workflows do not show YouTube reading and broadcasting a Google Drive playlist by itself.

Get videos from Google Drive into cloud playout

Option 1: Import a Drive video with Restream

Restream documents importing an individual video from a Google Drive link into its Video Storage. The file must be public or shared as “Anyone with the link.” Its documented supported formats are MP4, MOV, M4V, and MKV. Maximum file size and duration depend on the Restream plan, so check the current limits for your account before preparing a long program.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  1. In Google Drive, open the video’s sharing settings and allow access to anyone with the link. Consider whether that visibility is appropriate for the material.
  2. Copy the link to the video file and use Restream’s Drive import option to bring it into Video Storage.
  3. Wait for the service to transfer and process the file. The documented workflow places a copy in Restream storage; it is not a live connection to a Drive folder or playlist.
  4. Set up the YouTube broadcast in Restream and verify the selected channel, visibility, title, and timing before you go live.

Restream is the closest documented fit when importing a video from Drive is the main requirement. Its Drive import documentation concerns a video link; do not assume that it imports a whole Drive playlist as a continuously updating program.

Option 2: Upload files for a continuous Gyre playlist

Gyre describes a cloud workflow in which you upload videos to Gyre Storage, arrange them into a playlist, and schedule a 24/7 stream. Its help documentation says the source video files must be in Gyre storage, including videos that are already on YouTube. The documented setup does not establish direct playback from a Google Drive URL.

  1. Download the source videos from Drive, or otherwise obtain the original files you have permission to use.
  2. Upload those files to Gyre Storage and create the playlist in the desired order.
  3. Configure the YouTube channel and schedule the stream in Gyre.
  4. Check the playlist’s restart behavior, schedule, and output before relying on it to run continuously.

Option 3: Schedule one prerecorded video with StreamYard

StreamYard documents scheduling a prerecorded video that begins at the selected time and ends when the video finishes. You can upload a file or select a previous recording. The cited workflow does not establish direct import from Google Drive, so plan on using a file available to StreamYard. Duration, file size, schedule-count, and quality limits vary by plan and can change; check the current plan details.

Connect the YouTube channel and verify the broadcast

  1. Confirm live access. YouTube says enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours. Check that live streaming is available for the channel well before the scheduled start.
  2. Authorize the right channel. Use an account with the permissions required by the chosen service. StreamYard’s channel instructions specify channel-owner or Brand Account manager/owner permissions; check the target service’s current authorization requirements as well.
  3. Set the event details. Confirm the destination channel, title, schedule, and whether the broadcast should be public, unlisted, or private. Make sure the event’s end behavior matches your goal.
  4. Preview the incoming feed. Check that video and audio are present, that the correct playlist order is playing, and that the destination is the intended YouTube channel.
  5. Check what happens at the end. A scheduled video event ends with its video. A looping playlist should restart only if the playout service is configured to do so; verify that behavior rather than assuming every service repeats automatically.

What the encoder does—and when you need to configure it

An encoder turns audio and video into a digital feed that YouTube can ingest. In YouTube’s Live Streaming API, the liveBroadcast represents the event, while the liveStream represents the incoming feed and its ingestion configuration, such as protocol, address, resolution, and frame rate. A managed cloud service can handle the encoder connection and key binding for you.

If you build a custom encoder workflow, use YouTube’s current encoder setup instructions for the stream URL, stream key, and supported ingestion method. Treat the stream key as a secret: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Avoid placing it in public documents or sharing it with people who do not need access.

Extra requirements for custom HLS ingestion

These details apply to a custom HLS encoder pipeline, not normally to a managed playout service. YouTube’s HLS guidance specifies transport-stream segments of 1–4 seconds, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and HTTPS POST/PUT requests. HLS delivers video in segments, which can mean higher latency than other ingest methods. The API guidance also calls for a media playlist rather than a master playlist, muxed audio and video, HTTPS, and correctly sequenced playlist and segment uploads.

Google Cloud Live Stream API is a separate service for transcoding live, linear video into output formats. Its documentation describes live input and channel/output configuration; it does not establish a native Google Drive playlist-to-YouTube workflow.

Copyright and channel checks before going live

Having access to a file in Drive does not by itself establish that you have the right to broadcast it. Before scheduling a documentary, soundtrack, archival clip, or other video, check that you have the necessary rights for the video, music, and any third-party material. YouTube’s copyright and monetization rules still apply to prerecorded material delivered as a live stream. A live broadcast is not a way to bypass those rules, and permission to view or store a Drive file is not necessarily permission to rebroadcast it.

Which cloud route fits?

For a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo is the first cloud option to consider: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.

Need Documented route Important distinction
Keep uploaded videos looping continuously on YouTube StreamNeo Upload videos, add the YouTube stream key once, and go live. This is cloud playout for uploaded files, not direct Drive playback.
Import an individual video from Google Drive Restream Video Storage Drive link must be public or “Anyone with the link”; supported formats documented are MP4, MOV, M4V, and MKV. Size and duration depend on plan.
Run a continuous loop after uploading files to the service Gyre Its documented workflow uses Gyre Storage and a playlist; direct Drive URL playback is not established.
Schedule one prerecorded video to start and finish at set times StreamYard prerecorded streaming The documented behavior is a finite event; Drive import is not established, and limits vary by plan.
Implement a custom live encoder or API pipeline YouTube Live encoder/API or Google Cloud Live Stream API Requires technical setup. Google Cloud Live Stream API is documented for live linear feeds, not as a Drive playlist import tool.

Vendor features, plan limits, and service interfaces can change. Verify current file limits, channel permissions, scheduling options, supported output, and playlist-end behavior with the service before committing to a long-running stream.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos—not a camera feed—and the stream continues from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Your files stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; if YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically recovers. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
