You can’t choose or guarantee that YouTube will place your 24/7 livestream next to a particular channel. “Up next” and Suggested videos are personalized for each viewer, with the video they’re watching and their viewing history shaping what appears. Your best opportunity is to make the stream genuinely relevant to the same audience, package it accurately, and use Analytics to learn whether viewers choose it and keep watching.
Why YouTube may suggest your stream—but cannot be directed to do so
Suggested placement is a viewer-specific recommendation, not a setting creators can control. YouTube describes recommendations as being driven by what viewers watch and enjoy; whether someone chooses, ignores, or continues watching a recommendation helps inform the system. Similar subject matter can make your livestream a relevant option for a viewer, but it does not guarantee placement beside a similar channel or video.
That distinction matters for a 24/7 stream: continuous availability gives viewers more chances to find it, but YouTube’s guidance does not promise that being live around the clock itself improves Suggested placement. Treat 24/7 as a programming and availability choice, not a ranking shortcut.
Make the stream a clear match for a specific audience
Start with the audience overlap you can actually serve. For a documentary channel, that might mean a clearly defined subject, period, region, or documentary format that also appears in the viewing habits of the audience you want to reach. A stream that shifts among unrelated subjects may be harder for a potential viewer to assess; make its actual programming and intended audience clear.

Use a concise, accurate title and thumbnail that tell viewers what is live and why it may interest them. Do not imply that a documentary, event, or topic is featured if it is not. Metadata and packaging can help a viewer understand the offer, but they cannot force YouTube to show it next to a chosen channel.
Use audience reports to guide the programming and start time
In YouTube Studio, open Analytics and review the Audience reports available for your channel. YouTube says these reports can show what other channels and content your audience watches, which formats they use, and when they are active. Use that information to refine the stream’s subject framing and format around real audience interests.

If you are deciding when to begin a stream, viewer activity can help you choose a start time for initial engagement. YouTube notes that timing may matter for immediate engagement when going live, while upload timing is not known to affect long-term performance. Do not treat a particular hour as a way to secure recommendations.
Measure Suggested and Home performance, then make focused changes
In YouTube Analytics, inspect traffic sources and the performance of impressions and click-through from Home and Suggested videos. YouTube recommends monitoring these measures, especially over the first 24 hours for general audiences. That is a measurement window to consider, not a pass mark or guarantee of reach.

- If impressions appear but viewers do not choose the stream, review whether its title and thumbnail accurately communicate the subject and live format.
- If viewers click but do not stay, consider whether the opening and ongoing programming deliver what the packaging promised.
- Compare streams or videos with a similar subject and format, and consider audience response alongside click-through. Raw view counts alone can obscure differences in exposure and context.
Change one meaningful element at a time where practical, then review the results in context. A change may help clarify the stream’s fit for viewers, but no title, thumbnail, timing choice, or set of tags can guarantee a Suggested position.
Meet YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days to live stream. Its listed ways to go live include mobile, webcam, and encoder streaming. The webcam option uses a computer with a webcam; an encoder is another route for a production setup. These are general live-streaming options, not a stated specification for continuous 24/7 operation.
