Abandoned was announced as a PS5 horror game by Blue Box Game Studios in 2021. Online speculation cast it as a secret Hideo Kojima project connected to Silent Hill, but the game’s director publicly denied both links. The long-delayed project is not confirmed canceled: as of October 3, 2026, the U.S. PlayStation Store lists it for 2027. That listing does not prove development is active or guarantee a release.
What is Abandoned?
On April 7, 2021, Blue Box Game Studios director Hasan Kahraman announced Abandoned as an early-stage, first-person horror survival shooter exclusive to PS5, with a planned Q4 2021 release window. He described it as “a cinematic, first-person horror survival shooter set in a highly detailed open world environment and favours a realistic approach to survival.” The PlayStation Blog announcement said the player would control Jason Longfield, who wakes in a forest after being kidnapped and tries to escape. Its proposed play emphasized deliberate, tactical shooting and survival systems affected by the character’s condition. These were plans described at announcement, not proof of finished or delivered features.
The announcement also outlined intended DualSense and 3D-audio support. Those, like its technical and gameplay descriptions, should be understood as developer claims about the proposed game at that early stage.
Was Abandoned a Hideo Kojima or Silent Hill game?
No confirmed connection was established. Online speculation linked the obscure studio and the game to Hideo Kojima, with many versions of the theory suggesting a hidden Silent Hill project. The clues discussed by fans were speculation, not confirmation of a collaboration.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
In June 2021, Kahraman addressed the rumors in a video statement reported by PlayStation LifeStyle: “Yeah, I’m not really associated with Hideo Kojima. I’m not an actor. Not working on Silent Hill.” He said he wanted to show that he was a real person. The direct public statement contradicts the central claim that he was secretly Kojima or that the game was a concealed Silent Hill project.
What happened to the promised reveal and Prologue?
The original Q4 2021 target did not become a release. Blue Box later planned a reveal and a playable Prologue for Q1 2022, but those milestones were delayed. In a statement reproduced by Game Informer in April 2022, the studio denied cancellation rumors and said it had underestimated its development roadmap. It said the Prologue would arrive only when stable and ready: “We will release Abandoned: Prologue when it’s stable, good, and ready.”

Separately, Push Square reported on March 31, 2022, that the PS5 Realtime Experience app had appeared with only a few seconds of in-engine footage. That was a limited public glimpse, not evidence that the promised game or Prologue had been completed.
Is Abandoned canceled, or will it release in 2027?
Neither outcome is established. Blue Box’s 2022 statement denied cancellation, but a denial at that time does not confirm the project’s present status. As checked on October 3, 2026, the U.S. PlayStation Store listing identifies Abandoned as an announced PS5 game and displays a 2027 window. It describes a horror survival shooter focused on realism and lists Realtime Experience, Prologue, and base-game versions.

The Store page establishes what the storefront currently says; it does not independently verify ongoing development, completed work, or a guaranteed launch. The last cited direct studio statement about the project’s progress is from 2022, so the 2027 date should be attributed to the listing rather than presented as a fresh studio promise.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why do some people call the theory—or the game—a bust?
The theory and the project’s eventual fate are separate questions. The hidden-Kojima and Silent Hill explanation was undermined by Kahraman’s explicit denial, and the cited reporting does not establish a real connection. The “bust” interpretation of the game itself comes from the gap between the early release plan, delayed 2022 milestones, and the long period without a confirmed outcome in the available statements.
