To remove someone, hosts and producers use the People controls; the exact steps differ between computer and mobile.
Who can change participant settings?
Riverside’s help pages refer to the recording workspace as a “Studio”; the steps below describe those Riverside Studio controls. The host has broad control over the session and can change all Studio settings. Producers support the host and can change most Studio settings, but permissions vary by producer type and feature. Guests are recorded participants who can manage their own setup. Audience members watch live sessions, can use chat, and may request to join the live recording. Riverside’s participant-role overview explains these distinctions.
| Role | Participant-setting scope |
|---|---|
| Host | Manages the session and can change all Studio settings. |
| Producer | Can change most Studio settings; available permissions depend on producer type and feature. |
| Guest | Manages personal participation settings such as their camera, microphone, and speaker. |
| Audience member | Watches a live session, can chat, and may request to join the live recording. |
Studio settings are grouped under General, Recording, Live Stream, Brand, and Advanced. General settings include options such as renaming a Studio, enabling a lobby or waiting room, scheduling a recording, and inviting participants. Not every participant-related control is in one settings screen; use the relevant People or participant control for the task. See the Studio settings overview.
Remove a participant from the Studio
Hosts and producers can remove a live-call participant. Removing them stops their recording, but their high-quality recording track finishes uploading. If you removed someone by mistake or too early, they can rejoin using Rejoin Studio. A removed live-call participant returns to the audience and can continue watching; audience members themselves are not removed as ordinary call participants. Riverside documents the following computer and mobile steps in its participant-removal instructions.

On a computer
- Join the Studio as a host or producer.
- Open People in the sidebar.
- Click the three-dot menu next to the participant’s name.
- Choose Remove participant, then confirm.
In the mobile app
- Open the three-dot menu.
- Tap People panel.
- Tap the remove icon beside the participant’s name.
- Confirm the removal.
Mute a participant or turn off their camera
The host-role documentation lists muting or unmuting another participant’s microphone and turning off their camera as host actions on a computer. It does not list these controls as mobile actions, so do not assume they are available in the mobile app. For the supported platform details, consult Riverside’s host-role guide.
Change what you hear and check track uploads
Hosts and producers can use participant-management tools in the Studio sidebar. Riverside’s sidebar overview documents adjusting another participant’s output volume and checking whether participant tracks are uploading. Output volume changes what you hear live; the documentation does not establish that it changes the recorded track. The sidebar overview is older than the current participant-role and removal pages, so check the current interface labels if they differ from these terms: Studio sidebar overview.

What guests can change for themselves
Guests can change their display name and choose their own camera, microphone, and speaker. They can also enable live captions and toggle video mirroring. These are guest self-service controls, not settings the host changes on the guest’s behalf. Riverside describes them in its guest-role guide.
