If you are watching a YouTube Live property-tour loop on a home PC, the PC downloads the video. A useful estimate is about 0.45 decimal GB per hour for each 1 Mbps of sustained video bitrate. The exact amount depends on the stream and playback quality; YouTube’s recommended connection speeds can help with rough planning, but they are not guaranteed data-use rates.
Estimate data use while watching
Use this conversion for a steady bitrate:
Data per hour (decimal GB) ≈ bitrate (Mbps) × 0.45
One megabit per second sustained for an hour transfers 450 megabytes: 1 Mbps × 3,600 seconds ÷ 8 bits per byte. For example, a hypothetical stream averaging 2.5 Mbps would use about 1.125 GB in an hour; at 5 Mbps, about 2.25 GB. These are calculations, not measurements of a particular property-tour stream.
For a similar bitrate, double the viewing time and the estimated video data doubles. A loop does not stop consuming data merely because it repeats: while it is playing, the PC continues receiving video.

Planning estimates by playback quality
YouTube Help lists the following approximate sustained connection speeds for playback. The data figures below are the arithmetic equivalents of those speeds, not direct measurements or promises of how many bytes YouTube will deliver to a viewer.

These recommendations are for connection speed, not exact playback bitrates. Actual transfer can differ. YouTube says playback quality can vary with internet speed, player or screen size, the original video quality, and browser, and computer viewers can select a quality manually. Watching and broadcasting use bandwidth in opposite directions
If the home PC is watching the loop, the relevant traffic is download. If the PC is the encoder sending a live property tour to YouTube, the relevant traffic is upload. Do not use the broadcaster’s encoder setting as the viewer’s exact received bitrate: YouTube transcodes live streams into formats for viewers.
For its current H.264 live-encoder recommendations, YouTube lists 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 3 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps. These figures describe creator-side ingestion settings, not viewer playback rates. For an upload estimate, apply the same formula to the configured outgoing bitrate, then allow headroom: YouTube recommends 20% room beyond the stream bitrate, and shared networks can limit the bandwidth available to the PC. How to get a more specific estimate for your loop
- Set the intended playback quality. On a computer, use the YouTube player’s Settings > Quality controls and choose a quality if available. Automatic playback may change quality during viewing.
- Play the tour for a timed interval. Use the same browser, screen, network, and playback setup you expect to use. A longer interval makes a short-term fluctuation less influential.
- Check the PC or router’s usage counter before and after. Subtract the starting figure from the ending figure to estimate total traffic during playback. Other devices or background activity can contribute, so isolate the PC or pause unrelated downloads if you need a closer estimate.
- Scale to your expected viewing time. Divide the measured data by the test duration, then multiply by the hours you expect to watch. Treat the result as an estimate, since quality and network conditions may change.
This timed measurement is a practical way to estimate your own session; it is not a YouTube-prescribed measurement procedure.
Why the “10 MB per minute” tip is not a PC viewing rate
YouTube Help gives a rule of thumb of about 10 MB per minute in its mobile live-streaming filming tips. That guidance is in a mobile filming context; it should not be treated as a fixed rate for a PC watching a live tour. The same guidance distinguishes computer streaming recommendations, including using Ethernet for computer live streaming. It does not establish a guaranteed PC viewer data rate.
