Yes—a 24/7 aquarium livestream can earn YouTube ad revenue, but only if the channel qualifies for the relevant YouTube Partner Program (YPP) ad features, accepts the Watch Page Monetization Module, enables monetization for the stream, and meets YouTube’s policies. Being live around the clock does not itself qualify a channel or guarantee that ads will run.
What a channel needs to earn ad revenue
For Watch Page Ads—the ad feature relevant to long-form videos and livestreams—YouTube lists the higher YPP eligibility tier: 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified public watch hours on long-form videos in the previous 365 days or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the previous 90 days. The lower expanded-YPP threshold unlocks selected features, but not Watch Page Ads. Requirements and availability can vary by region and change; check YouTube’s YPP overview and eligibility for the current rules.
YPP application also requires compliance with channel monetization policies, availability in the creator’s country or region, no active Community Guidelines strikes, 2-Step Verification, access to advanced features, and an AdSense for YouTube account linked or ready to set up. YouTube reviews the channel as a whole.
After approval, accept the Watch Page Monetization Module to earn ad and YouTube Premium revenue from eligible long-form and live content viewed on the Watch Page. Then turn monetization on for the livestream. Ads appearing on a channel do not by themselves mean the creator is eligible to share in that revenue.
Can aquarium livestream watch hours count toward YPP?
Some public livestream watch hours can contribute to the long-form watch-hour threshold. YouTube excludes livestreams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to video on demand from qualified watch hours. If you want the stream’s hours to count, keep the stream public and retain or convert its replay, subject to YouTube’s current eligibility rules. See the YPP eligibility details.

Will YouTube put ads on every aquarium stream?
No. YouTube states: “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.” When monetization is enabled on a monetized livestream, pre-roll and display ads are automatically enabled. Mid-roll ads can be automatic, scheduled, or manual, but YouTube decides whether an ad serves in a given slot. Viewer eligibility, advertiser suitability, and the ad system’s decisions all affect delivery. Enabling ads is not a promise that each viewer—or any particular viewer—will see one. See YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance.
Choosing a mid-roll setting
YouTube labels automatic mid-rolls as recommended. Creators can instead schedule breaks or insert them manually. The choice is a trade-off between automation and control: a scheduled or manual break gives more say over timing, while automatic insertion lets YouTube place ads at natural breakpoints. In manual mode, if you do not insert breaks, no mid-rolls are served.

YouTube reports an average “over 20% uplift in instream ad revenue per hour” for channels that enabled automatic live mid-rolls compared with channels that did not. This platform-reported comparison covered 207 countries in January 2024. It is an average comparison, not an aquarium-specific result, not a forecast for an individual channel, and not a guarantee of higher earnings for a particular stream. Details are on YouTube’s live-stream monetization page.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Does a repetitive aquarium feed meet YouTube’s monetization policies?
There is no categorical rule in YouTube’s published policy saying that a fixed-camera aquarium livestream is always eligible or always ineligible. YouTube requires original, authentic content and says highly repetitive or mass-produced content may be ineligible. Reviewers may consider the channel’s main theme, newest and most popular videos, share of watch time, metadata, and About section. A channel built around a continuous aquarium view should therefore be assessed as a whole against YouTube’s channel monetization policies; the format alone does not settle the decision.

Where livestream ads appear—and other revenue features
YouTube’s live monetization guidance says ads are turned off for an externally embedded livestream that autoplays. Do not assume an embedded autoplay player earns ads in the same way as a viewer watching on YouTube.
Eligible creators may also be able to use memberships, Super Chat, and Super Stickers, subject to their separate eligibility and setup requirements. Those are supplementary creator revenue features, not ad revenue; YouTube describes them alongside its monetization options in the feature eligibility documentation.

Running an aquarium stream continuously
To keep a YouTube livestream available around the clock, a creator needs a continuous source and a reliable way to send the stream to YouTube. A local computer-based setup means the computer, streaming software, and internet connection have to remain available; an interruption can take the stream offline. Whichever operating method you use, a 24/7 schedule does not change YPP eligibility or guarantee ad delivery.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live 24/7 from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. It plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera, so it is an option for prerecorded aquarium footage, not a direct camera feed.
