In YouTube Studio, go to Create > Go Live, open the Live Control Room’s Manage tab, and schedule a stream. Give every event a series-specific title and description so viewers can tell which game or installment is coming up.
Here, “rerun” means a recurring scheduled broadcast. YouTube uses “Live Replay” for a video that has already streamed, so the upcoming event and its eventual archive are two different items.
Schedule a separate event for each gaming series
- Open the scheduling controls. In YouTube Studio, choose Create > Go Live. In the Live Control Room, open Manage and schedule a stream. You can create a new stream or reuse settings from a previous one. YouTube’s live streaming instructions describe the scheduling workflow.
- Identify the series in its metadata. Add a recognizable title and description for that event. For example, put the game or series name first, followed by the episode, session, or other distinguishing detail. That naming pattern is a practical recommendation, not a YouTube requirement. You can edit stream metadata while creating or scheduling a stream. YouTube’s stream settings guidance covers those settings.
- Confirm privacy and timing. Check the event’s privacy setting and scheduled date and time before publishing. A scheduled stream may appear to subscribers as upcoming, and viewers may select Notify me to get a reminder. YouTube’s stream settings guidance and YouTube’s notifications guidance explain these options.
- Review any reused settings carefully. Reusing an earlier stream can save setup time, but it copies metadata, settings, and the stream key. Before saving, verify the new title, description, schedule, privacy, and other event details; otherwise, the new series event could inherit the previous one’s information. YouTube’s stream settings guidance describes reuse.
Connect a gameplay encoder and start the event
An encoder is relevant if your gameplay production uses overlays, external hardware, or a more involved scene setup. YouTube describes encoders as supporting gameplay and external production workflows, but an encoder is not required just to keep different series separate. YouTube’s live streaming instructions distinguish encoder streaming from other creation flows.
- In the scheduled event’s stream settings, get the stream URL and stream key for the encoder.
- Enter those details in the encoder, configure your gameplay scene, and start sending the stream.
- Wait for the preview to appear in the Live Control Room, check that the correct event is selected, and launch the scheduled event.
Treat the stream key as a credential. YouTube says, “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Do not post or share it. YouTube’s stream settings guidance explains the key and stream setup.

Find and organize the completed live replays
After a broadcast, go to YouTube Studio > Content > Live to find current, upcoming, and past live streams. The past event’s replay is its archive; schedule a new event for the next installment rather than treating the archive itself as the next scheduled broadcast. YouTube’s guidance on live archives and highlights covers managing past streams.
Clear titles and descriptions help viewers identify an archive. For easier browsing across a gaming channel, you can also create a playlist for each series and add its completed replays and highlight clips. YouTube recommends playlists for archives and highlights, but a separate playlist for every series is optional. YouTube’s archive and highlights guidance explains playlist organization.

Protect important broadcasts with a local recording
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams that exceed 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a long broadcast matters to you, record a local copy as a backup rather than relying only on the YouTube archive. The under-12-hour figure is YouTube’s operational threshold, not a guarantee that every stream will be captured. YouTube’s live archive guidance describes the limitation.
Troubleshoot common scheduling mistakes
- The new event shows the wrong series title or description: If you reused settings, check for copied metadata and update it before saving or publishing.
- The encoder is not feeding the scheduled event: Confirm that it is using that event’s stream URL and key, then wait for the Live Control Room preview before launching.
- Viewers cannot find the next installment: Check that the event is scheduled with the intended privacy setting, date, and time. Scheduled streams may appear as upcoming, where viewers can choose Notify me.
- A completed stream is hard to browse: Open Content > Live, check the event’s replay, and add it to the playlist for its game or series if you use one.
- A very long broadcast has no replay: Streams exceeding YouTube’s stated 12-hour threshold may not be captured. Use a local recording for important long sessions.
