How to Run Two YouTube Radio Streams from One OBS Computer

Run two YouTube radio streams from one computer with separate OBS instances, event keys, audio routing, and a thorough test before going live.

You can run two simultaneous YouTube radio streams from one computer by opening two OBS instances and sending each to a separate YouTube live event. Give each OBS instance its own profile and scene collection, map it to the correct event and stream key, and test both feeds before broadcasting. This is practical when the streams need different audio, content, or event settings; if they are identical, consider whether you need two separately produced streams at all.

Choose the right setup for your two radio streams

First decide whether the feeds are identical or independently produced. Two OBS instances are the most direct local approach when each stream needs its own audio mix, visuals, schedule, or settings. If both streams carry the same program, a cloud relay may distribute one feed to multiple destinations, but that is different from producing two independent radio streams.

Method Best fit Compare Main caution
Two OBS instances, one per YouTube event Separate content, audio, or event settings Computer load, audio routing, setup complexity, configuration isolation Both outputs add encoding work. Use separate profiles and scene collections, then test the setup on your installed OBS version. OBS forum guidance is community advice, not a current official manual.
One OBS output sent to a cloud relay The same feed distributed to multiple destinations, or a computer that struggles with local encoding Whether separate events or mixes are supported, service cost, latency, destination limits, network path A relay of one feed may not provide independently produced radio streams. Confirm the service supports your exact arrangement.
OBS multiple-output plugin Potentially useful when outputs share a production or need additional destination controls Current OBS and operating-system compatibility, separate audio or scenes, encoder reuse versus extra encodes, maintenance Plugin compatibility and support vary; verify current authoritative instructions before relying on one for a scheduled broadcast.

Check YouTube eligibility and stream limits

Make sure live streaming is enabled for your channel and that no applicable account restriction prevents it. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable the feature well before the planned broadcast. YouTube Help currently states that a channel can have 10 active streams, with a maximum of 3 active streams per stream key; both limits apply at once. Check YouTube’s live streaming eligibility and limits before relying on these figures, since platform rules can change.

Create and map the two YouTube events

  1. Create two separate live events. In YouTube Studio, open the live-streaming controls and create or schedule an event for each radio feed. Give each a distinct title, description, visibility, and schedule so listeners can tell them apart.
  2. Copy each event’s connection details. For each event, copy the server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio. Match each pair to its intended OBS instance and record the mapping privately. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address”; do not publish or share them. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and stream-key settings.
  3. Keep the OBS configurations separate. Set up a distinct OBS profile and scene collection for each instance. Configure the appropriate stream destination, audio source, visuals, and output settings in each. Back up the profiles and collections. OBS forum guidance recommends this separation because concurrent instances using shared configuration can overwrite changes or cause configuration trouble; test your launch method with your installed operating system and OBS release.
  4. Check audio routing deliberately. Confirm that each instance captures the intended radio feed and does not accidentally capture the other stream’s audio, desktop sound, or silence. Use each event’s preview to verify the actual sound and content rather than assuming that a source configured in one OBS instance is available in the other.
  5. Start both encoders and verify the previews. Start the output in each OBS instance, then wait for the matching event preview in YouTube Live Control Room. Confirm that the right audio and visuals appear under the right event before starting the public broadcast.
  6. Test the audience-facing pages. When practical, use private or unlisted events for a rehearsal. Check that both watch pages are reachable and show the intended stream. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring audio and video continuously. YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived; end each event deliberately when finished.

Plan for computer and upload capacity

With two local OBS outputs, the computer must encode both feeds while handling scene composition, audio processing, and any other applications. The network must upload both streams at the same time. YouTube notes that local software or hardware encoders can process multiple simultaneous streams and stresses having sufficient upload speed; its guidance contrasts local encoding, which suits people seeking control and a capable computer, with cloud encoding, which can reduce local resource demands or simplify delivery.

There is no universal computer specification or upload-speed minimum established for this exact two-radio-stream workload. Actual demand depends on the resolution, frame rate, bitrate, encoding preset, source complexity, audio, and network overhead. Run both outputs under realistic conditions and leave headroom for connection variation. Monitor OBS for dropped frames or encoder overload, and listen for interruptions in both feeds.

Troubleshoot common two-stream problems

  • One event stays offline or has no preview: Check that its OBS instance uses the matching event’s server URL and stream key, that the event is open for an encoder connection, and that the channel can currently stream. A key copied from the other event can send the output to the wrong destination.
  • The wrong audio is on a stream, or one feed is silent: Inspect the audio sources and routing in that instance, then confirm the result in the corresponding YouTube preview. Do not rely on the other instance’s mixer state.
  • Video or audio breaks up, or OBS reports dropped frames: Check network stability and the combined upload demand of both outputs. Reduce output demands if necessary and repeat a realistic two-stream test; the available guidance does not establish one bitrate or PC setting that works for everyone.
  • Encoding overload or unstable performance: Close unnecessary applications and assess whether the computer can encode both outputs reliably. If it cannot, consider a cloud-based delivery approach, while confirming that it supports the two feeds you actually need.
  • Changes appear in the wrong OBS instance or settings conflict: Stop editing shared configuration. Use different profiles and scene collections, restore a backup if needed, and validate the separate launch setup on your installed OBS release.
  • A plugin-based setup fails after an update: Check the plugin maintainer’s current compatibility and instructions for your OBS version and operating system before the next broadcast. Do not assume that a plugin mentioned in an older discussion is still supported.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep a pre-recorded YouTube radio stream running 24/7 rather than produce two independently mixed live feeds, StreamNeo is a cloud option. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed. For two different feeds, check that your planned content and slot setup meet your needs.

Protect the radio content and channel

Before scheduling a long-running broadcast, confirm that you have the rights to the music, recordings, and other material in each feed. A live format does not by itself establish permission to stream copyrighted work or guarantee monetization.
