You can stream Hindi bhajans from an Ubuntu computer by sending an encoder’s audio and video feed to YouTube Live, but a dependable 24/7 broadcast takes more than starting the encoder: enable live streaming early, use YouTube’s ingest settings, provide steady upload bandwidth, monitor the event, and clear the music rights. YouTube’s guidance does not establish a tested Ubuntu installation or unattended-restart recipe, so this walkthrough covers the YouTube-side setup and the operating checks without presenting unverified Ubuntu commands as tested.
Before you set up the broadcast
Confirm the channel can go live
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so request access well before the planned start. YouTube also says streamers must be at least 16 years old. These requirements are from YouTube’s live-streaming help guidance; check the channel’s current status in YouTube Studio before preparing the broadcast.
Clear rights for every recording
Being a bhajan, devotional song, or traditional composition does not by itself make a particular recording free to stream. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the channel provider to hold the necessary rights for live and archived content on Google services worldwide, including applicable rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. A purchased recording is not automatically a livestream license. Confirm that the rights you hold cover live use and any archive you intend to keep.
YouTube identifies an active live-stream copyright strike and matching another copyrighted live broadcast as reasons live-streaming access may be restricted. If a rights claim or restriction appears, resolve it through YouTube’s process and review the license rather than assuming that changing the stream title or restarting the encoder fixes the underlying issue.

Prepare the Ubuntu computer and YouTube event
Choose an encoder without assuming an Ubuntu recipe
You need encoder software that can send a live feed to YouTube over RTMP or RTMPS. The sources cited here do not establish current Ubuntu package names, supported Ubuntu releases, encoder versions, or a tested unattended configuration. Install and update your chosen encoder using its current official Ubuntu instructions; do not treat a command copied from an unrelated release as a verified setup.
Create the event and protect the stream key
- Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room. Create or schedule the live event and select the stream/encoder workflow.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown by YouTube. Enter them in the encoder’s streaming destination settings. Treat the key like a password: do not put it in a public description, screenshot, command shared online, or public repository. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Set up the encoder and event before the intended start. Send a test feed, wait for YouTube’s preview, and confirm the correct event is receiving it. YouTube’s operational guidance recommends setting up in advance and checking the preview and stream availability.
- Use a clear event title and description. Identify the devotional program and include only information you can substantiate, such as the recording source or rights information. Do not imply that music is licensed merely because it is devotional or publicly available elsewhere.
Set video, audio, and bitrate for YouTube
Use compatible encoding settings
YouTube’s encoder settings list H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video for RTMP/RTMPS; the guidance recommends RTMPS. It lists AAC or MP3 audio, recommends constant bitrate (CBR), and recommends a keyframe interval of two seconds, not exceeding four seconds. If your encoder offers these controls, configure them to match YouTube’s current settings for the chosen codec and stream format.

Choose resolution, frame rate, and bitrate together rather than treating one bitrate as suitable for every broadcast. For H.264, YouTube’s examples recommend 3 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps and 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. Those are settings examples for those specific combinations, not a universal target; YouTube’s bitrate guidance varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate. A static devotional visual may not need a high resolution, while complex motion and higher frame rates can change bandwidth needs.
Leave upload headroom
YouTube recommends available upload bandwidth greater than the total stream bitrate, with 20% headroom. For example, a 5 Mbps stream bitrate implies at least 6 Mbps of available upload capacity under that recommendation. If other devices share the connection, their traffic can reduce what the encoder actually gets. Test from the Ubuntu computer and the location you will stream from, preferably at a time when household or workplace usage resembles the planned broadcast. YouTube warns that connectivity disruption can break a stream; a wired connection is a reasonable way to reduce one source of wireless variability, but it cannot guarantee continuity.

Start the stream and monitor it
- Start sending from the encoder. Confirm the Live Control Room detects the incoming feed and displays the intended audio and video.
- Check the preview before going public. Listen for the bhajan audio, confirm it is not clipped or silent, check that the image is correct, and verify the event’s visibility and audience settings.
- Start the YouTube event from the Live Control Room. Confirm that the public watch page is available to viewers. YouTube advises checking access on channel/watch pages and mobile, not only inside the encoder.
- Monitor during the broadcast. Keep an eye on stream health and listen for audio dropouts; YouTube recommends continuously monitoring audio and video. If using a backup encoder, test failover in advance rather than discovering its behavior during a live program.
A 24/7 broadcast also depends on the computer, encoder, power, and network staying available. The cited YouTube guidance is event-operational advice, not a turnkey Ubuntu service design, and it does not establish a reliable automatic-restart procedure. If you need unattended operation, validate the restart and reconnection behavior of your specific Ubuntu release and encoder before relying on it.
Plan archives separately from a continuous 24-hour feed
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A single uninterrupted 24-hour transmission exceeds that stated threshold, so do not count on it becoming one automatically available replay. If replay access matters, plan broadcasts shorter than 12 hours or arrange a separate recording and archive workflow, and make sure your music rights cover the archive as well as live use.

Troubleshoot common failures
