VLC Video handles multiple files in sequence; OBS’s regular Media Source is for an individual file. Confirm rebroadcast rights first, test privately, and choose stream settings your upload connection can sustain.
Before you start: rights and channel access
Confirm permission to rebroadcast
Having access to a Hindi podcast episode does not necessarily give you permission to rebroadcast it live. Confirm that the podcast owner permits live streaming of each episode and any music or other third-party material it contains. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; if it identifies a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and issue a warning. Continued use can result in interruption or termination. Even with a license, a rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Check YouTube livestream eligibility
Your channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days. First-time livestream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the day you plan to broadcast. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
Install OBS Studio and VLC on Ubuntu

Check your Ubuntu version and follow the current Ubuntu instructions from the OBS Project’s Linux installation guide. Its documented Ubuntu PPA and package route applies to Ubuntu 18.04 or newer; verify the current instructions for your distribution before installing.

Install VLC as well as OBS. OBS’s VLC Video source depends on VLC being installed to appear in the source list. Match architectures: OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. OBS Project: Media Sources.

Open OBS and confirm that it launches. If VLC Video does not appear when adding a source, check that VLC is installed and compatible with your OBS build and architecture.
Build a playlist scene from podcast files

In OBS, create or select a scene for the broadcast. In the Sources panel, choose + → VLC Video. If the source is missing, revisit the VLC installation and compatibility checks above.

In the source properties, add the authorized episode media files to the playlist in the order you want them played. Test the exact files locally before going live.

Leave shuffle off when episode order matters; turn it on only if a random order is acceptable. Enable loop if the playlist should restart after the final item. VLC Video provides playlist, shuffle, and loop controls.

Make sure the scene has a visible visual element if you want viewers to see something while listening. Check the scene in OBS’s preview and confirm that the audio meter responds during playback.

For a single supported audio file, OBS’s regular Media Source may be suitable. The documented multi-item playlist workflow is VLC Video. OBS lists common audio formats for Media Source, but the source documentation does not establish that a podcast RSS feed can be used as a playlist. Treat this as a file-based workflow: download or otherwise obtain permitted episode files, and do not assume that pasting an RSS URL into OBS will work. OBS Project: Media Sources.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live

Copy the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube and enter them in OBS’s streaming settings. Use RTMPS where available. Keep the key private: anyone who has it may be able to send content to your stream.

Start streaming from OBS and wait for the YouTube Live Control Room preview to receive the scene. Check that the picture and audio are present before making the broadcast public.
Choose settings your connection can sustain
There is no one resolution or bitrate that fits every Ubuntu computer and internet connection. Set quality according to the upload bandwidth available during the broadcast, then test and watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators. YouTube recommends constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval; its guidance allows a maximum keyframe interval of four seconds. For stereo audio, YouTube recommends 128 Kbps. These are platform recommendations, not guarantees that every OBS build exposes identical controls in the same place. YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
- Bitrate: Keep the total stream bitrate within the upload capacity available to the computer. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom; shared or busy connections can have less usable capacity than their advertised rate. Encoder settings and YouTube streaming tips.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second interval where the encoder allows it; do not exceed YouTube’s stated four-second maximum.
- Audio: Use AAC or MP3 as supported by the encoder settings, and use YouTube’s 128 Kbps stereo recommendation as a starting point for stereo audio.
- Resolution: Start conservatively if your upload is variable. A stable stream is more useful than a higher resolution that repeatedly drops frames or disconnects.
Test and monitor before and during the broadcast

Run a private or unlisted test stream using the planned playlist and settings. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health.

Check the Live Control Room preview. On another device, listen for silence, clipping, or audio that is out of sync, and confirm the scene is visible.

Let the test run long enough to verify that one episode ends and the next begins. If looping is enabled, confirm that the playlist returns to its first item as expected.

During the public stream, keep an eye on YouTube’s stream-health status and OBS. A speed test can help you choose an initial bitrate, but it cannot guarantee that a shared connection will remain steady throughout the broadcast.
Troubleshooting common problems
- VLC Video is missing in OBS: Install VLC and check that its architecture matches OBS. Restart OBS after installing VLC; if the source still does not appear, verify compatibility with the OBS build and Ubuntu version.
- YouTube does not receive the OBS stream: Check that the stream URL and key were copied correctly, the key is current, and OBS is using the intended streaming service and connection settings. Re-copy the key from the correct Live Control Room stream if needed.
- The first broadcast cannot be started: Confirm channel verification and check for a live-streaming restriction. If livestreaming was only just enabled, activation may take up to 24 hours.
- The playlist does not advance or repeat: Confirm that the files are listed in VLC Video’s playlist and that loop is enabled if you expect the sequence to restart. Test each file in the source before a public stream.
- Audio is silent or distorted: Check the VLC Video source’s audio activity in OBS, confirm the correct source is active in the scene, and listen to the YouTube preview. Reduce levels if the signal clips.
- Stream health is poor or the broadcast disconnects: Lower the bitrate or resolution, check whether other devices or applications are using upload capacity, and test again with more headroom. Choose settings the connection can sustain rather than relying on its advertised maximum.
- YouTube interrupts the stream for a copyright match: Stop and resolve the rights issue; do not assume that a podcast being publicly available means it may be rebroadcast. If you have a license, ask the rights holder about allowlisting your channel in Content ID.
