You can run a 24/7 Bollywood instrumental stream by having FFmpeg send a looping audio-and-video program to YouTube Live over RTMPS. The encoder is only one part of the setup: you also need rights for every track and visual, a working stream key, enough upload capacity, and a plan for restarting FFmpeg or the host if either stops. YouTube may not capture a stream that runs longer than 12 hours, so arrange a separate recording if you need a complete archive.

Before you start: clear the music and visuals

Do not start with a track simply because it is instrumental, available online, or included in a purchase. You need rights that cover livestreaming on YouTube in the territories where the stream will be available, and any archive you intend to keep. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility for those rights on the creator, including applicable music licensing rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other rights participants.

  • Confirm that your permission covers livestream use, the relevant territories, and any resulting recording or archive.
  • Ask the rights holder whether your channel must be added to a Content ID allowlist, and get confirmation before launch. YouTube says a stream can still be interrupted when you have a licence if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel.
  • Keep records of permissions and check that the artwork, animations, and video footage are cleared too.
  • Do not assume that a copyright claim is harmless. YouTube scans livestreams for third-party content and may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it if a match remains.

What you need for a continuous stream

  • A computer or server that can run FFmpeg continuously, with the audio and visual files available to it.
  • An FFmpeg build that includes the encoders and RTMPS protocol support you intend to use. Support can vary by build and host.
  • A YouTube channel with access to Live Control Room and a stream configured for encoder input.
  • A stable wired internet connection with upload capacity for your chosen video bitrate plus room for normal fluctuations.
  • A process supervisor or equivalent restart plan, logging, and a way to check the stream after interruptions.

Check your local build before preparing the production command. These commands show the installed version, available protocols, and encoders; availability in the list does not by itself prove a complete end-to-end YouTube connection.

ffmpeg -version
ffmpeg -protocols
ffmpeg -encoders
ffmpeg -h protocol=rtmps

Prepare YouTube Live and protect the stream key

  1. In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live to reach Live Control Room. Create or select the broadcast and choose the encoder or stream setup that provides an ingestion address and stream key. Labels can vary as YouTube updates Studio.
  2. Use the RTMPS ingestion address shown for your broadcast. RTMPS is RTMP carried over a TLS/SSL connection, which encrypts the connection; YouTube recommends it for encoder streams.
  3. Copy the stream key into a protected environment variable or secret store on the streaming host. Treat it like a password: do not publish it, paste it into a public script, or include it in screenshots. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room.
  4. Keep the broadcast in the appropriate test or preview state while checking the feed. Confirm playback and stream health in Live Control Room before relying on a continuous run.

Choose the audio and visual loop

One audio file with a static cover image

This is the simplest setup to reason about: FFmpeg repeats one audio file and continuously generates frames from one image. Prepare the image at the target video dimensions and make sure you have permission to use it. A static image still produces a video stream; audio alone is not a substitute for the video input expected by this example.

A playlist of tracks

For a playlist, one practical approach is to join the tracks into a single audio program before streaming, then loop that file. Alternatively, FFmpeg’s concat demuxer can read a playlist of compatible files. For the demuxer approach, create a text file such as tracks.txt with one entry per file:

file '/media/track-01.wav'
file '/media/track-02.wav'
file '/media/track-03.wav'

Use files with matching stream parameters for the concat demuxer, and test the transitions. Paths and quoting need to match the host operating system and FFmpeg build. Check that every track is cleared for the intended live use. Decide whether a gap, abrupt transition, or repeated sequence is acceptable; the playlist ending must not be allowed to end the broadcast unintentionally.

A pre-rendered audio-and-video loop

If you have already made a complete video program with sound, you can loop that file as the input instead of combining separate image and audio sources. Verify that both streams are present, that the file’s codecs and parameters suit your output plan, and that the loop point does not create an unwanted pause or jump. A playlist-driven system is more flexible for changing tracks, but it adds more opportunities for mismatched files and rights gaps.

Set encoder values for YouTube Live

YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate, and keyframes every two seconds, with a maximum recommended interval of four seconds. It recommends 128 Kbps for stereo audio. Set video bitrate from YouTube’s current encoder table for the resolution and frame rate you choose, then confirm that your real upload connection can sustain it. Video bitrate and audio bitrate are separate settings: do not add the audio figure to the video field or mistake it for a video recommendation.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
  • Codec and container: The example below uses H.264 video, AAC audio, and an FLV container for RTMP-family ingest. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 in applicable protocol and use combinations; do not assume every FFmpeg build or ingest configuration supports every combination. H.264 is used here as the straightforward example.
  • Keyframes: At 30 frames per second, a 60-frame GOP corresponds to a two-second interval. If you choose another frame rate, set the GOP length to twice that frame rate for the same interval.
  • CBR and upload capacity: Fill in the selected video bitrate from YouTube’s current table. Test at the same resolution, frame rate, audio, and movement you expect in the real stream. A static image may be easier to encode than animated artwork, but the connection still needs to sustain the configured output.
  • Image dimensions: Make the image match your chosen output dimensions or scale and pad it deliberately. Avoid accidental stretching or black bars caused by mismatched aspect ratios.

FFmpeg command: static image and looping audio file

The following is a template, not a tested, universal command. It assumes a Bash-like shell, a local image and audio file, a 30 fps output, a stereo audio track, and an RTMPS URL supplied by Live Control Room. Set the video bitrate to the value appropriate for your selected resolution and frame rate in YouTube’s current encoder guidance. Adjust dimensions, frame rate, paths, and options for your files and installed FFmpeg build.

export STREAM_URL='rtmps://YOUR-INGEST-ADDRESS/YOUR-APP/YOUR-STREAM-KEY'
export VIDEO_KBPS='SET_FROM_YOUTUBE_ENCODER_GUIDANCE'

ffmpeg
  -re -loop 1 -framerate 30 -i cover.png
  -re -stream_loop -1 -i instrumental.wav
  -map 0:v:0 -map 1:a:0
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -tune stillimage
  -pix_fmt yuv420p -r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
  -b:v "${VIDEO_KBPS}k" -minrate "${VIDEO_KBPS}k"
  -maxrate "${VIDEO_KBPS}k" -bufsize "$((VIDEO_KBPS * 2))k"
  -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ac 2
  -f flv "$STREAM_URL"

Replace every placeholder, including the endpoint and bitrate, before running this. Do not place a real key in an article, shared command history, or a public repository. If your installed build lacks libx264 or RTMPS support, use a compatible build or a supported alternative only after checking that its codec and protocol combination is accepted for your YouTube setup. A syntactically accepted command is not proof that YouTube is receiving a healthy stream.

Test before leaving it unattended

  1. Run a short test using the same audio, visuals, encoding settings, network, and host you plan to use. YouTube advises testing with content similar to the intended broadcast.
  2. Watch the preview and stream-health messages in Live Control Room. Confirm the video dimensions and aspect ratio, stereo sound, acceptable loudness, and uninterrupted transitions.
  3. Test what happens when the input reaches its end, the network drops, FFmpeg exits, and the host reboots. Confirm that your selected loop behavior works and that the supervisor or restart mechanism actually relaunches the process.
  4. Inspect logs and arrange an alert or regular health check that can tell you when the process has stopped or YouTube reports ingest trouble.
  5. Do a controlled recovery test before leaving the stream unattended. Automatic restart is an operational safeguard, not a guarantee that YouTube will accept or restore the broadcast in every failure case.

Keep FFmpeg and the host running

A 24/7 stream depends on more than a looping input. The machine must stay powered, the source files must remain readable, the network must remain available, storage must not fill, and FFmpeg must not exit unnoticed. Run FFmpeg under a service manager or process supervisor configured to restart after failure and host reboot. Keep logs, monitor free disk space, and verify that the service is using the intended stream key and files after a restart. Exact service configuration depends on the operating system and supervisor; Google’s API material describes broadcast and stream resources, but it does not provide a universal service-manager recipe.

For long-term operation, document how to replace an exposed key, restore the source files, and check Live Control Room after an interruption. A process restart may reconnect to ingest, but do not assume it restores the same broadcast state without checking YouTube’s preview and health indicators.

Will YouTube archive a 24/7 stream?

Do not count on YouTube to preserve the entire broadcast as a replay. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams that exceed 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a complete archive matters, record a local copy and check that the recording is actually being written. Storage needs depend on the recording’s codec, bitrate, resolution, and duration, so calculate capacity for your own settings rather than assuming a generic drive size.

Copyright permission and monetization are separate

Having rights to livestream a track does not by itself make a channel eligible for monetization. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to livestreams and require monetized content to be original and authentic. The policy identifies highly repetitive or mass-produced material and collections of songs from different artists as examples that may not qualify. A repeating instrumental stream should not be treated as automatically eligible just because the creator has permission; YouTube evaluates channels under its policies. Its July 15, 2025 policy clarification renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and said the reused-content policy did not change in that update.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you would rather not maintain an FFmpeg host, StreamNeo is the first cloud alternative to consider: it keeps an uploaded-video YouTube stream running from the cloud at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with the first day free. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The computer at home does not have to stay on, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. It plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera, and it streams to YouTube only.

Every slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, and support from the StreamNeo team. Plans differ by billing length, not by stream quality. The first day is free with no card required; one free day is available per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are accepted in India; card checkout is available worldwide.
