Yes. An India-based creator or temple operator can keep a prerecorded Hindu prayer stream live on YouTube while their personal computer is off by running an encoder on a cloud virtual machine (VM). YouTube must permit the channel to livestream, the audio and visuals must be cleared for the intended use, and the cloud encoder and YouTube ingest still need monitoring and a recovery plan. A cloud desktop alone does not guarantee uninterrupted streaming.
Choose what viewers will see and hear
Prerecorded playlist or loop
The simplest cloud-desktop workflow is a prepared sequence of original or appropriately licensed recordings, paired with a still image or subtle visual loop. The encoder on the VM plays the files and sends the output to YouTube Live. This is suitable for bhajans, chants, readings or other devotional material only when the relevant recording and visual rights cover the intended stream.
Live temple camera and sound
A real-time puja or temple feed is a different production setup: it needs capture equipment, a reliable audio/video path and authorization to film or record at the venue. Clear the rights and permissions for everything audible and visible, including people, music, images and notices in the frame. YouTube describes cameras, microphones and encoder hardware as options for an encoder-based stream; the National Informatics Centre (NIC) also discusses audio/video equipment and encoders in its venue-oriented webcast guidance. Confirm YouTube Live eligibility first
YouTube Help says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube also sets a minimum-age rule and other platform requirements; check the current requirements for the account before planning a launch. Once eligible, create or schedule the live event in YouTube Studio and choose encoder ingestion. Studio labels and screens can change, so follow YouTube’s current setup instructions rather than relying on an old menu path. Copy the stream key into the encoder only through a secure method. Anyone with access to the key may be able to broadcast to the event; do not post it in public notes, screenshots or shared documents. YouTube: Create a live stream with an encoder.
Prepare the cloud desktop and encoder
- Choose the VM location and operating system. If placing the server in India is a genuine requirement, select an India-region VM from a provider that currently offers one. Region choice alone does not establish a better route to YouTube or guarantee continuity. Confirm the operating system and encoder workflow you intend to use before committing to a VM; no particular provider, size or current price is established here.
- Put the media where the encoder can read it. Store the prepared files on the VM or on storage permitted by your provider and accessible to the VM. Check that there is enough space for the playlist, any working files and logs.
- Install and configure an encoder. OBS or FFmpeg can be configured to send a prepared feed, but the exact setup depends on the operating system, media format and workflow. Use a configuration you can test and restart; do not assume that installing an encoder makes it self-recovering.
- Set the YouTube event and key. Use the event’s encoder settings in YouTube Studio. Keep the key private, and verify that the encoder is sending to the intended event before making the stream public.
- Arrange restart and alerting. Configure the VM and encoder so you can detect and respond to a process stop or reboot. Keep a written restart procedure and arrange an external stream-health check or a human monitoring rotation. These are operational recommendations, not tested settings for a specific VM.
- Run a private or unlisted pilot. Confirm that the incoming feed is healthy in YouTube Studio, playback is stable, and the encoder reconnects after a planned interruption before announcing a 24/7 stream.
Set resolution, bitrate and keyframes
YouTube’s current H.264 encoder guidance recommends 10 Mbps for 1080p30 or 6 Mbps for 720p30, constant bitrate (CBR), and a 2-second keyframe frequency. YouTube supports RTMP and RTMPS and recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery. These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not viewer bandwidth requirements. Choose resolution according to the source material and what the VM can continuously upload. Plan for spare outbound capacity above the selected bitrate, and have a lower-resolution fallback ready. Test the actual feed and monitor YouTube’s stream-health indicators during the pilot; do not treat a short successful test as proof of long-term continuity.
NIC’s guidance separately mentions 2–4 Mbps of dedicated network bandwidth per stream for a hired-agency government webcast scenario. NIC limits that service to Central and State Government institutions, so this figure is neither a general YouTube bitrate recommendation nor a generally available service for individual creators. Clear rights for every recording and image
Devotional subject matter does not automatically make a recording free to livestream. YouTube states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” It may interrupt or terminate a stream when a match is detected. YouTube also says that even a creator with a licence may need the rights owner to add the channel to a Content ID allowlist to avoid interruption. YouTube: Copyright issues with live streams.
Before launch, make a rights ledger for each piece of media. Identify the work and the relevant rights holders, and keep written evidence of permissions or licences covering the uses you plan. A traditional prayer or old lyric does not by itself establish that a modern arrangement, performance or recording can be streamed.

- Song, composition and lyrics, including the arrangement where applicable.
- Performers and the owner of the particular sound recording.
- Photographs, artwork, video and any other visual material.
- Countries covered and permission term or dates.
- Permission for continuous YouTube livestreaming and, if relevant, an archived replay.
- Whether monetization is within the permission’s scope.
- Content ID status and whether the relevant owner can allowlist the channel.
Ask the relevant rights holders about channel allowlisting before going live with licensed material. Keep the licences available, and use a platform dispute process only when your documentation supports your claim. This is practical guidance, not a legal opinion about a particular Indian work. YouTube recommends testing before a stream and monitoring stream health while it is live; it does not guarantee that an encoder, network, platform ingest or rights check will keep a stream uninterrupted. During a private pilot, test the failure modes you can safely simulate and decide who responds when an alert arrives.

- Check that the audio stays in sync and at a consistent level, and that the visual loop remains stable.
- Temporarily interrupt the encoder’s connection in a controlled test and verify the steps needed to reconnect.
- Confirm that YouTube Studio reports a healthy incoming feed after reconnection.
- Set up an external uptime or stream-health check, or schedule a human monitoring rotation.
- Write down the restart procedure, who can access the stream key, and how the operator will handle copyright warnings.
Before relying on YouTube to retain a replay, check its current archiving guidance and retention rules. Do not assume that an unarchived 24-hour stream will remain available indefinitely. YouTube’s encoder guidance.
