An Airtel broadband IP-address change does not, by itself, mean you need a new YouTube stream URL or stream key. The key question is whether the change interrupts the church’s internet connection: if it does, the encoder may lose its feed to YouTube and need to reconnect. Treat this first as a connection-continuity problem, not as a reason to reset a working stream key.
What changes—and what does not
Your Airtel-assigned WAN IP address belongs to the broadband connection. YouTube’s stream URL and stream key are the encoder credentials used to send a feed to YouTube. They serve different purposes. In YouTube’s encoder workflow, you copy the URL and key from Live Control Room into your encoder; an ISP address change does not itself change those YouTube credentials.
If the broadband session drops during an address change, the encoder can lose its outbound connection to YouTube. YouTube Help cautions that “A disruption on your connectivity could mean a broken stream.” A key reset is not the remedy for an ordinary IP change; reset the key if it may have been exposed, or follow YouTube’s troubleshooting steps if the encoder reports a relevant connection error.
The available official Airtel broadband information does not establish whether a particular church line has a public dynamic IP, a CGNAT address, or a static IP. Allocation and plan terms can vary by account and location. Do not assume your line’s setup from another subscriber’s experience.

Prepare the stream for the venue’s actual connection
Set bitrate against upload capacity
Use the venue’s measured upload capacity, not its advertised download speed, to choose stream settings. Test under representative conditions—with the devices and normal activity that will be present during the service—and leave capacity for network variation and other traffic.
YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom for the total stream bitrate, including primary and backup streams where applicable. This is an operational recommendation, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service. YouTube’s encoder settings vary with codec, resolution, and frame rate. For H.264, its table lists 5 Mbps as the recommended minimum and 14 Mbps as the recommended setting for 1080p30; for 720p30, it lists 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended. Consult YouTube’s current settings table for your chosen format rather than treating one bitrate as universal.

Check stream health and audio
Run a rehearsal with representative movement and audio. Watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators and preview, and confirm that speech and music are clear. A static image or quiet room may not reveal the same encoder or network demands as a full service.
Keep the key private
YouTube describes a stream key as analogous to a stream’s password and address. Copy the correct stream URL and key from Live Control Room into the encoder, and keep the key private. You can create a custom key for reuse; reset it if it is compromised, not simply because Airtel changed the WAN address.

Rehearse a recovery before service
- At least two hours before the event: set up the encoder and confirm that it is configured with the intended YouTube stream URL and key. This timing follows YouTube’s event-preparation guidance.
- At least 15 minutes before: start the encoder, check the YouTube preview and stream health, and verify the audio and picture before using the Go Live workflow appropriate to the stream setup.
- Test backup switching if you use a backup encoder: YouTube advises testing failover by stopping the primary encoder or unplugging its Ethernet cable, then confirming that the player switches to the backup. Do this during rehearsal, not during the service.
- Verify local recording: make a test recording and confirm that it can be played back. A local copy gives the church a separate record if the online feed is interrupted.
If the feed drops during an IP change
- Check whether the venue still has internet access and whether the encoder reports a connection or dropped-frame problem.
- Allow the connection to recover, then check the encoder’s connection status and YouTube Live Control Room preview. Follow the stream’s normal start or Go Live workflow once the preview is healthy.
- If the encoder does not reconnect, verify the stream URL and key in the encoder against Live Control Room. Refresh or replace the key only when YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance points to a key-related start error or the key may be compromised.
- Check the local recording and any rehearsed backup path so the team knows what material was preserved and whether the player switched successfully.
OBS checks when the network is unstable
OBS Project says: “If you experience dropped frames or intermittent disconnections while streaming, there is a network issue between your computer and the remote stream ingest server.” Its guidance is dated September 30, 2024. Dropped frames can mean the connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate; enough dropped frames can disconnect the encoder.
- As a baseline while troubleshooting, leave OBS’s Bind to IP setting at Default, as OBS recommends.
- Recheck the bitrate against upload performance at the venue, especially when other devices are using the connection.
- OBS’s dynamic bitrate adjustment can lower bitrate during congestion. It may help maintain a feed at reduced quality, but it does not repair the underlying connection.
Would DDNS or a static IP solve it?
Not for the documented encoder-to-YouTube path. DDNS keeps a name pointed at an address so an outside party can reach a service hosted on that connection. A YouTube encoder sends an outbound feed to YouTube, so DDNS is not an established fix for this workflow. A static IP should not be purchased just because the encoder feed stopped during an address change. Ask Airtel about the specific line if the church genuinely needs inbound access or a contractually static address; Airtel’s official broadband plans and support information does not establish the IP allocation or static-IP availability for every service.

Ways to add resilience beyond one broadband connection
First identify which failure you need to cover: encoder failure, broadband interruption, or loss of power. A backup encoder may cover some encoder failures; a genuinely separate internet path may cover some broadband failures; and a UPS may help with power interruptions. These are different problems, and no particular router, Airtel failover setup, secondary ISP, or device is established here as a guaranteed fix for IP churn.
Before choosing equipment or service, check that the backup is independent of Airtel where that matters, can provide adequate upload performance at the venue, works with the church’s encoder and YouTube workflow, and has a recovery time the service can tolerate. Rehearse it. YouTube’s documented backup-encoder test can confirm player switching, but it does not validate the reliability or independence of a local backup internet path.
