To stream Sanskrit shlokas continuously to YouTube with FFmpeg, prepare an authorized audio or video source, configure FFmpeg to repeat it and encode it to YouTube-compatible settings, then send the output to the RTMPS URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room. A loop repeats media; it does not keep a computer powered, restore a failed network connection, or automatically restart FFmpeg.
Choose the source and broadcast format
First decide what viewers will see and hear. The right FFmpeg input and loop method depend on that choice; there is no single command that reliably fits every recording, image, playlist, operating system, and FFmpeg build.
- One prepared video: Use a file that already contains the shloka audio and visual. Configure the input to repeat and send its video and audio streams.
- Audio with a still image: Supply the audio recording and artwork as separate inputs, then make a continuous video output with the audio. Ensure the image remains available for the length of the broadcast and confirm that the audio does not end before the visual or vice versa.
- A sequence of recordings: Build a playlist in the intended order and decide whether to repeat each item or the whole sequence. Check that the transitions do not introduce unwanted silence, abrupt cuts, or a frozen image.
Inventory each file before setting up the stream: duration, video and audio codecs, sample rate, channel layout, and whether the visual should change. FFmpeg’s input-loop behavior is option- and input-dependent, so check the documentation for your installed version and validate the actual arrangement. See the FFmpeg Documentation.
Set YouTube-compatible encoding
YouTube’s live encoder guidance, accessed October 3, 2026, lists RTMP/RTMPS ingestion; H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR); frame rates up to 60 fps; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Choose values for the actual codec, resolution, and frame rate rather than treating any one bitrate as universal. Check YouTube’s current live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions before broadcasting, because the table may change.

| Example configuration | YouTube-listed bitrate guidance |
|---|---|
| H.264, 720p30 | 3 Mbps minimum; 8 Mbps recommended |
| H.264, 1080p30 | 5 Mbps minimum; 14 Mbps recommended |
These are YouTube ingestion recommendations, not guarantees of viewer quality or sufficient upload speed. Leave network headroom above the selected stream bitrate so ordinary connection variation does not starve the encoder. A low-motion shloka stream may not need a high frame rate, but choose a valid resolution/frame-rate combination and ensure the machine can encode it continuously.
Prepare FFmpeg and the RTMPS destination
- Inspect and test your inputs. Confirm that FFmpeg can read each file and that the intended audio and visual play together. Test loop boundaries for gaps, clipping, abrupt cuts, and mismatched durations.
- Configure the repeat behavior. Use the loop option appropriate to the input type, or a playlist method for multiple recordings. Input-scoped options must appear before the input they affect. A loop flag repeats media; it does not provide power resilience, network recovery, or process supervision.
- Set the output encoder. Choose a YouTube-supported video and audio codec, CBR, the bitrate for your exact output row, and a two-second keyframe interval. Mux the result for the selected YouTube ingestion method. Confirm your installed FFmpeg build supports the chosen protocol and codecs.
- Get the destination for this broadcast. In YouTube Live Control Room, open the Stream tab or schedule a stream, then reveal the RTMPS URL under Stream settings. Copy the current URL and stream key for that stream; do not reuse an old example.
- Connect and verify. FFmpeg’s RTMPS output needs the correct destination and stream key. Depending on how the output is configured, the URL and key may be separate values or combined. Keep the key private: do not commit it to a repository, show it in screenshots, or expose it in public logs.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, which carries RTMP over TLS/SSL. Its instructions explain how to encrypt a stream using RTMPS. The Live Streaming API identifies the destination fields as ingestionAddress and streamName and notes that encoders may accept them separately or as STREAM_URL/STREAM_NAME; see the YouTube Live Streaming API documentation. FFmpeg documents RTMPS as an encrypted transport in its protocol documentation.

- Everything in the box: Includes Pro Tools Intro+, Ableton Live Lite, Cubase LE, and Hitmaker Expansion: a suite of essential effects, powerful software instruments, and easy-to-use mastering tools
Because source layouts differ, avoid copying a supposedly universal command line. Build the command around your real inputs, loop arrangement, encoder, and destination fields, then test that exact setup. Never put a real stream key in a command that may be saved or shared.
Test the shloka stream before leaving it running
Start with a short private or otherwise appropriate test. YouTube recommends testing before going live and advises using sound and movement representative of the eventual broadcast. For a chant over still artwork, check both the audio and the actual image. Listen through a loop transition, confirm the intended sequence and levels, inspect the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages, and only then begin the planned broadcast.

Keep a way to stop or restart the FFmpeg process and monitor the host and network for as long as the stream is meant to run. YouTube’s testing and health guidance does not promise uninterrupted uptime.
Troubleshoot common failures
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Check that the URL and stream key belong to the current broadcast, are entered in the correct fields, and have no accidental whitespace. Confirm the protocol and server match. If an SSL error occurs, YouTube’s RTMPS instructions suggest checking both and trying port 443 when appropriate.
- The stream starts but drops or buffers: Check the host’s sustained upload connection and leave headroom above the encoder bitrate. If the network is unstable, a loop cannot repair the connection; check stream-health messages and restart or reconnect the output as needed.
- Audio or visuals stop at the loop boundary: Recheck input durations, stream mapping, and the loop method for each input. Test the boundary repeatedly before a long broadcast; separate audio and image inputs may not end or repeat in sync.
- The host cannot encode continuously: Reduce resolution, frame rate, or bitrate to a supported configuration the machine can sustain, then repeat the representative test. Do not assume that a setting valid for YouTube is also feasible for your hardware.
- Audio is missing or distorted: Verify the selected input stream, output audio codec, sample rate, and channel layout. Listen to the test in YouTube’s preview rather than relying only on local playback.
Use material you are authorized to broadcast
Confirm that you have permission to stream the specific chant performance, recording, translation, artwork, and any video included in the broadcast. The fact that a shloka is Sanskrit does not by itself establish the rights status of a particular recording or visual. Use material you own or are authorized to stream, and review YouTube’s applicable rules before broadcasting.
