Set CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and AAC stereo at 128 Kbps. Leave about 20% upload headroom, test the complete workflow, and plan around YouTube’s warning that a single stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived.
Recommended settings for a Hindi study stream
A still or slowly changing study visual rarely benefits from 60 fps. Use 30 fps and choose the resolution your real, consistently available upload capacity can support—not simply the highest setting your encoder offers. YouTube automatically transcodes the incoming stream for different playback formats.

The video bitrate figures do not include audio. For bandwidth planning, add the 128 Kbps audio target, then leave the recommended 20% headroom. YouTube Help does not show a publication year for these figures.
Choose resolution using real upload capacity
Measure upload speed on the same connection and, if possible, at the time and location the stream will run. A speed-test result is not a guarantee of sustained capacity: other devices, cloud backups, Wi-Fi interference, and network congestion can reduce the bandwidth available to the encoder.

- At 720p30, the 6 Mbps video plus 128 Kbps audio target totals 6.128 Mbps before headroom. Applying YouTube’s 20% headroom recommendation means planning for materially more than that as consistently available upload bandwidth.
- At 1080p30, the 10 Mbps video plus 128 Kbps audio target totals 10.128 Mbps before headroom. Again, plan for materially more than the combined stream bitrate, not a connection that only just reaches it.
The 20% figure is YouTube’s recommended margin, not a guarantee of stability or a separately published minimum. Its guidance says the total streaming bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving room. YouTube streaming tips
If the measured connection fluctuates or is shared heavily, select 720p rather than pushing 1080p at the edge of capacity. A wired connection can reduce local wireless variability, but it cannot fix insufficient upload capacity from the internet provider.

Set up the encoder and YouTube stream
- Prepare the playlist and rights. Use original music or tracks licensed for the live broadcast and any archive you want to retain. Confirm that the visual and audio play correctly from beginning to end.
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room, create a stream or choose an existing one, and locate its server URL and stream key. Exact labels may change, so use the current Live Control Room fields shown for the selected stream.
- Configure the encoder. Enter the server URL and stream key, select H.264, set the chosen 720p30 or 1080p30 output, use the corresponding video bitrate, choose CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, and set AAC stereo at 128 Kbps. Use RTMPS if the encoder supports it; YouTube describes RTMPS as the secure extension to RTMP. YouTube encoder settings
- Keep the stream key private. Treat it like a password. Anyone with access to the key may be able to send video to that stream. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before going live again.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview. In Live Control Room, check that YouTube receives the feed before starting the event. Verify that the picture moves as intended and that audio is present at a sensible level.
- Rehearse under realistic conditions. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the actual stream. Run a long enough rehearsal to observe playlist transitions, audio continuity, network stability, and what happens if the connection drops. YouTube encoder guidance
- Monitor stream health. Keep an eye on the encoder and YouTube’s stream-health information during operation. A successful preview at launch does not establish that an encoder or network will remain available indefinitely.
RTMP, RTMPS, or HLS?
For a non-interactive study playlist, RTMP or RTMPS is usually the straightforward choice when supported by the encoder. Use RTMPS when available for the secure transport. HLS is a different workflow: YouTube names OBS as an encoder that supports HLS output, but HLS sends segments and has higher latency than RTMP. It also requires protocol-specific settings, so do not switch to it unless your encoder workflow and codec support are configured for HLS. What changes when the stream runs 24/7?
Do not rely on one continuous broadcast for a complete replay
YouTube says a live stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all; DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. If an archive matters, plan sessions shorter than 12 hours and make a separate local recording. Do not assume a single 24-hour broadcast will produce a complete replay. Confirm looping and recovery in the actual workflow
YouTube’s stream settings do not establish an automatic infinite playlist loop or an automatic restart guarantee. Those behaviors depend on the encoder and playback or automation workflow you choose. Test the end of the playlist, transitions between files, recovery after a network interruption, and whether the encoder resumes sending when a stream is dropped. The official guidance does not promise uninterrupted 24/7 uptime.
Music rights and YouTube policy checks
Use original tracks or obtain rights that cover the live stream and any replay you intend to keep. YouTube scans live streams for third-party material. If it identifies a match, it may replace the live video with a placeholder, interrupt or terminate the stream, or apply a claim to the archived recording after the broadcast. A license alone may not prevent a live interruption: YouTube says the rights owner may need to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Before scheduling a long study broadcast, confirm that the channel is eligible to go live and that the content complies with YouTube’s applicable rules. Keep proof of licenses and any allowlisting confirmation accessible in case a rights match interrupts the feed.

- YouTube reports dropped frames or unstable health: Reduce the output to 720p30 or lower the bitrate, stop competing uploads and downloads, and test again. Check whether the connection sustains the target with headroom rather than relying on a brief speed-test peak.
- The preview does not appear: Confirm the encoder is using the selected stream’s current server URL and stream key, and that the encoder is actively sending. Recheck the key if the stream was recreated or reset.
- Audio is missing or distorted: Confirm the correct audio source is selected, AAC stereo is enabled at 128 Kbps, and the source is playing. Check levels for clipping and listen to the YouTube preview before starting the event.
- The stream ends when a playlist finishes: Looping is a feature of the chosen playback or encoder workflow, not a YouTube setting guaranteed by the reviewed guidance. Verify repeat behavior and file transitions in a rehearsal.
- A stream interruption does not recover: YouTube’s official settings guidance does not establish an automatic restart guarantee. Check the encoder’s reconnect or restart behavior and rehearse a network interruption; do not assume recovery without observing it.
- A live feed is replaced or interrupted during music playback: Check for a third-party rights match. Use properly licensed or original audio and contact the rights owner about Content ID channel allowlisting where applicable.
- The broadcast has no complete replay: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured, and DVR may be limited. Use shorter sessions and a separate local recording when retaining a replay is important.
