Start with a simple 720p30 H.264 setup, verify that your PC and upload connection can sustain it, rehearse in YouTube Studio, and arrange someone to monitor and restore the stream if it fails.
What you need before going live
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube says livestreamers must be at least 16 years old. If this is the channel’s first live stream, activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it well ahead of the tour. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- A PC that can encode the tour at the selected resolution and frame rate, OBS Studio, and a stable upload connection with headroom above the encoder’s bitrate.
- Permission to show the project and any people or private areas visible in the feed, plus rights to all music, footage, logos, and other included material.
- A plan for monitoring the stream and responding to a power, PC, encoder, or internet interruption. OBS running on a local PC does not by itself provide autonomous recovery.
OBS lists Windows 10/11 and a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU among its baseline requirements, but meeting those requirements does not prove that a PC can handle a particular streaming workload. Performance depends on the encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. See OBS Studio system requirements. A PC with a hardware H.264 encoder may reduce the burden on the CPU, but test the actual machine rather than choosing from specifications alone.
Set up the Hindi project tour in OBS
1. Check the channel and schedule the stream
In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the live stream and open its Live Control Room. If live streaming has not been enabled on the channel, do that first and allow for the possible activation delay. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains how to connect an encoder and preview the feed before broadcasting.
2. Build a simple scene
In OBS, create a scene with the property-tour video or other intended visual source. Add a clear project name or location label if useful. Hindi narration is optional: add a microphone only if you plan to narrate, and keep overlays and animations modest on a constrained PC. YouTube describes microphones and cameras as common equipment for encoder-based streams, not mandatory purchases.

Before broadcasting, check that the tour footage is authorized, the intended areas are visible, and no private documents, faces, screens, or other sensitive details appear unintentionally. If you include narration, listen back to a test recording for intelligibility and background noise.
3. Connect OBS to YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, open the scheduled stream’s Live Control Room and copy its stream URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select the YouTube service or custom RTMP option as appropriate, and enter the connection details. Choose RTMPS when offered.
- Keep the stream key private. It lets an encoder send a feed to your YouTube channel; do not show it in a screen recording, public tutorial, or screenshot. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
Choose resolution, bitrate, and encoder settings
YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends matching stream settings to the upload connection you have tested. For H.264, its listed recommended bitrates include:

These are YouTube’s published recommendations, not independently measured minimum connection speeds. Leave upload headroom for network variation and any other household or business traffic; a connection that briefly reaches the target is not proof it can hold it continuously.
- Codec: H.264 is a practical broad-compatibility choice when available. YouTube’s listed RTMP/RTMPS settings also accept H.265/HEVC and AV1.
- Rate control: Set CBR, YouTube’s recommendation.
- Keyframe interval: Set 2 seconds; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Transport: Use RTMPS, the secure RTMP option, when your encoder offers it.
In OBS, use the Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point, then check the output settings and test the actual scene. A static title card may be easier to encode than detailed moving tour footage. Do not assume a setting works merely because OBS accepts it.

Rehearse, go live, and monitor the feed
- Set up the encoder at least two hours before the event when possible, as YouTube recommends. Start it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start so there is time to check the incoming feed.
- In Live Control Room, wait for the preview and review stream-health messages. Verify the stream from the channel or watch page and on a phone, not just inside OBS.
- Test representative motion and the complete audio chain at the intended output quality. Check for dropped frames, stalls, soft or unreadable property details, distorted audio, and microphone levels that overwhelm the tour.
- Start the public stream only after the preview and access checks look right. During the broadcast, continuously monitor audio and video quality, as YouTube’s live-streaming tips advise.
- For a 24/7 feed, assign a person to check it and know how to restart OBS, restore the connection, and verify the new YouTube preview after an interruption. YouTube’s guidance does not promise that a local encoder will recover itself after a failure.
Plan for archives and continuous operation
YouTube’s encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a single 24-hour broadcast will produce a complete archive. If a complete recording matters, consider shorter sessions and confirm how the current platform handles them, or retain the source recording independently. See YouTube’s encoder guide.

A 24/7 local setup also depends on the PC staying powered on, OBS remaining active, and the local internet connection holding. Plan for power and connectivity interruptions, and decide who will respond. A low-cost PC can be a workable encoder, but its hardware and a successful short rehearsal cannot establish guaranteed round-the-clock uptime.

YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the creator for necessary rights and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Use only music, footage, logos, and other material you are entitled to broadcast. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; an unresolved match can interrupt or terminate a stream. Even licensed content may require the rights owner to allowlist the channel. Review YouTube’s terms and its copyright guidance before including third-party material.
