For someone broadcasting continuously at YouTube’s recommended 35 Mbps H.264 setting for 4K/2160p at 60 fps, the video payload is about 378 decimal GB over 24 hours, before protocol overhead. That is an encoder-side estimate—not a measured figure for viewers watching in India. YouTube transcodes a live feed into different output formats, so a viewer’s data use depends on the version actually delivered and playback conditions.
Broadcaster data use: about 378 GB per day at 35 Mbps
YouTube’s live encoder guidance recommends 35 Mbps for H.264 at 4K/2160p and 60 fps. If an encoder sends data at that constant rate for a full 24 hours, the video payload calculation is:
35 megabits/second Ă— 86,400 seconds Ă· 8 = 378,000 megabytes = 378 decimal GB.
This estimate assumes a steady 35 Mbps and counts video payload only. Protocol overhead, interruptions, and the way a device or carrier measures data can change the figure shown on a real account. The bitrate is YouTube’s recommended live-ingestion setting, not a guarantee that every stream will use exactly that amount. YouTube’s live encoder settings give the recommendation and codec ranges.

How codec and bitrate change the estimate
At a constant bitrate, daily payload use scales directly with the bitrate. YouTube lists a 10–40 Mbps minimum-to-maximum range for AV1 and H.265 live ingestion at 4K/60 fps. Applying the same 24-hour calculation gives roughly 108–432 decimal GB. This is a scenario range based on constant bitrates, not a prediction for every stream.
For HLS ingestion, Google says HEVC generally provides 25% to 50% more compression than H.264 at the same video quality. That comparison does not determine the bitrate of a particular broadcast; the actual configured bitrate remains the key input to the estimate. See Google’s HLS ingestion guidance.

Viewer data use is a different question
The 378 GB estimate is for sending a 35 Mbps feed from a broadcaster’s encoder. It should not be used as the amount consumed by someone watching the stream. YouTube says it transcodes incoming live video into multiple output formats so viewers on different devices and networks can watch. A viewer’s delivered bitrate can therefore differ from the broadcaster’s ingest bitrate.
The available guidance does not establish an exact daily data total for watching a 4K/60 YouTube Live stream in India. Playback quality, network conditions, and the output format delivered affect use. Jio’s India-focused guidance likewise notes that video consumption varies by application or website and does not publish a specific YouTube 4K/60 live-viewing figure. Jio’s video-resolution and data-use guidance recommends checking the relevant service for exact consumption details.

Use live settings, not upload settings, for a live-stream estimate
YouTube’s separate upload guidance recommends 53–68 Mbps for 2160p high-frame-rate SDR video uploads. Those figures concern uploading a video file, not live ingestion or viewer playback, so they should not be substituted into the live-stream calculation. See YouTube’s upload encoding recommendations.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to use when estimating an Indian data allowance
- If you broadcast: use your encoder’s configured bitrate and the number of hours it sends. At 35 Mbps for 24 hours, the payload estimate is 378 decimal GB.
- If you watch: do not assume the broadcaster’s bitrate is your playback rate. The cited guidance does not give a universal daily total for an Indian viewer.
- For real plan usage: allow for measurement differences and overhead, and check your own device or carrier meter. No India-specific multiplier or current plan allowance is established by the cited sources.
Or let it run in the cloud
