If a long ASMR playlist starts over after its final video, turn off Loop playlist on the device where you are listening. If it jumps back to the beginning after you close YouTube or switch devices, that is a different resume-position issue: YouTube’s official help does not establish a setting that guarantees the playlist will reopen at the last video and timestamp.
First identify what “restarting” means
- It returns to the first item after the final playlist video: check playlist Loop. YouTube says videos and playlists can be played on repeat by looping them (YouTube Help: Loop videos or playlists on YouTube).
- A related video starts after the current video or playlist ends: check Autoplay. It starts another related video and is separate from playlist Loop (YouTube Help: Autoplay videos).
- The playlist starts over after you reopen the app, browser, or another device: that concerns playback-position resuming, not the end-of-playlist Loop setting. The official guidance cited here does not promise a universal way to restore the exact position.
- Your sequence disappears after closing a browser: you may have been using a temporary queue rather than a saved playlist. Browser queues do not save after the browser closes (YouTube Help: Queue videos on YouTube — Computer).
Turn off playlist Loop on your device
Computer or browser
- Open a video from the playlist and expand the playlist panel beside the video.
- Find the Loop control in the playlist box. If playlist repetition is active, click the control to turn it off.
- If a related video starts after playback ends, turn off Autoplay separately using the control at the bottom of the player.
- If you built the sequence as a queue and need it to remain available after closing the browser, save it as a playlist. Saving preserves the sequence; the cited instructions do not say it preserves the last playback position.
Phone or tablet
- Play a video through the playlist so the playlist controls appear.
- Use the Loop control in the playlist control box to disable playlist repetition.
- Check whether the Loop icon shows a “1,” which indicates repeating a single video. Tap the control again as needed so the playlist itself is not set to repeat.
- Check Autoplay separately in the player or app Settings if YouTube starts a related video when an item ends.
YouTube’s queue help says queueing on mobile or tablet requires Premium. A queue is not the same as a saved playlist.
TV or game console
- Start the playlist, then use your remote or controller to reveal the playback controls.
- Find Repeat and cycle through its states. YouTube documents a “Repeat • Playlist” state; disable playlist repeat if you do not want the list to start again after its final item.
- Change Autoplay separately in the YouTube TV app Settings if you want to prevent a related video from starting afterward.
Know which playback control changes what
| Control or format | What it does | What to change |
|---|---|---|
| Playlist Loop | Repeats the whole playlist after its last item. | Turn it off to stop end-of-list repetition. |
| Single-video Loop | Repeats the current video; YouTube’s mobile instructions show a “1” on the Loop icon for this state. | Tap the control again if you want to leave single-video repeat. |
| Autoplay | Starts another related video; it does not control whether a playlist repeats. | Turn it off separately on the device you use. |
| Temporary browser queue | Keeps a viewing sequence temporarily; YouTube says it does not save when the browser closes. | Save the sequence as a playlist if you need it to persist. A saved sequence is not a documented guarantee of saved playback position. |
If the playlist still opens at the beginning
First confirm whether YouTube actually reached the end of the playlist or whether you closed and reopened playback. If it is returning to the first item only after the last one, recheck playlist Loop on that device. If it happens after reopening YouTube or moving to another device, turning off Loop or Autoplay is not established as a fix for restoring the prior timestamp. YouTube’s playlist-management help covers creating and managing playlists, but does not describe a guaranteed resume-position control (YouTube Help: Create & manage playlists — Android). Its help on watch history likewise does not promise playlist-position restoration (YouTube Help: Manage your recommendations & search results).
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep an uploaded ASMR recording or playlist running as a YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload the video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; it plays your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. Learn about StreamNeo, or start your free day.
