OBS Studio is the best free Windows option for looping a gaming VOD on YouTube Live. For one video, add an OBS Media Source and enable Loop. For a rotation of VODs, use the VLC Video source, create a playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. The first method needs no extra media player; the playlist method requires VLC installed.
Which OBS loop method should you use?

These settings control playback inside OBS. They do not change YouTube playback. OBS documents local media support for MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, and WebM. The Media Source loop option is off by default. VLC Video uses VLC libraries for extended media support and appears in OBS only when VLC is installed; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Set up a single gaming VOD in OBS
- Install OBS Studio. Download it from the official OBS site. OBS describes the software as free and open source, with no watermark or commercial-use restriction; its official download does not bundle adware.
- Create a scene. In OBS, create or select a scene for the video you want to broadcast.
- Add the video. In the Sources box, choose + > Media Source, give the source a name if prompted, and select the local VOD file.
- Enable looping. In the Media Source properties, check Loop, then confirm the selection.
- Check the scene. Watch the OBS preview and listen to the audio. Confirm the video fits the canvas and that the beginning, ending, and repeat behave as expected before you start the broadcast.
Set up a playlist of VODs
- Install VLC first. Match its architecture to OBS: for 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. Without VLC, the VLC Video source will not appear.
- Add the source. In OBS, select + in Sources and choose VLC Video.
- Build the playlist. In the source properties, add the local VOD files in the order you want them to play.
- Repeat the list. Enable Loop Playlist and apply the properties.
- Verify playback. Check the preview and audio, including the transition from the final file back to the first, before going live.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Check live access. YouTube requires an eligible channel and compliance with its policies. First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so enable it ahead of the planned broadcast. Review YouTube’s live streaming eligibility and rules.
- Create an encoder stream. In YouTube Live Control Room, set up a stream using an encoder. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain how to create the stream and connect your encoder.
- Connect OBS with YouTube’s stream configuration. Use the stream configuration provided by YouTube in OBS. Keep the stream key private; anyone who obtains it could broadcast to your channel.
- Start the broadcast from OBS and confirm it in Live Control Room. Check that YouTube receives the composed scene, with both picture and sound, before leaving the stream unattended.
OBS plays the local file or playlist and encodes the scene; YouTube receives that output as a live stream. The workflow described here does not establish a need for a capture card or separate stream-control device.

Check rights and YouTube policy before rebroadcasting
A VOD being available on your computer does not by itself establish that you have permission to rebroadcast it. Check rights for the specific gameplay footage, soundtrack, overlays, and other material in the recording. YouTube says live streams must follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, and restrictions can affect access to live streaming. Review YouTube’s live-streaming guidance and make sure the content is suitable for the channel and audience. The loop setting does not grant any rebroadcast rights.
Troubleshooting
- The video stops instead of repeating: Open the Media Source properties and turn on Loop. It is off by default.
- Only one video plays from a playlist: Confirm you added a VLC Video source, populated its playlist, and enabled Loop Playlist.
- VLC Video is missing from the source menu: Install VLC. If OBS is 64-bit, install 64-bit VLC as well.
- YouTube does not receive the OBS stream: Recheck the encoder stream setup and the stream configuration in OBS using YouTube’s encoder instructions. Keep the stream key private.
- You cannot start a live stream: Check channel eligibility and whether live streaming has been enabled. YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours; restrictions may also affect access. See YouTube’s eligibility guidance.
